County Charter Review Board slots filled

CLEARWATER - The debate over choosing the group of people who will review Pinellas County's charter is over.

County commissioners agreed this week on the final two members of the 13-person committee. They selected St. Petersburg City Council member John Bryan as the committee's elected city official and Lou Kwall as the final citizen at-large.

Every six years, the commission asks a panel of elected officials and non-office holding residents to look at the charter and recommend changes.

The committee, which will begin meeting in January and make any recommendations for changes to the charter by the end of July, comprises four elected officials and nine citizens at-large.

In November, commissioners agreed on 11 members. But Commissioner Bob Stewart questioned having a Dunedin commissioner represent the cities, instead of someone from St. Petersburg, the county's largest city.

Stewart also objected to another nominee. Other commissioners echoed his concerns, and they all agreed to postpone voting on the final two members until this week.

State Sen. Jim Sebesta (R-St. Petersburg), Pinellas County Sheriff Everett Rice and incoming County Commission Chairwoman Susan Latvala are the other elected officials.

Ed Armstrong, Ricardo Davis, Robert Decker, George Jirotka, Roy Harrell, Mayme Hodges, Elizabeth Mannion and Roger Wilson round out the list of citizens at-large.
