Gunman eludes authorities

By Times Staff Writer
Published December 5, 2003

Authorities are looking for a man suspected of shooting at a car in Brooksville on Thursday afternoon.

While no injuries were reported, Brooksville Police Chief Ed Tincher said the shooting was the latest in what appears to be a string of related incidents between the suspect, known to authorities only as Thug Life, and another man.

According to Tincher, the victim received minor injuries from broken glass and shell fragments after he was shot at on Tuesday. Thursday's shooting occurred shortly after 3 p.m. as the victim left his car on Peach Street and Martin Luther King Boulevard. Police did not identify the victim because the case remains under investigation.

Minutes later, a Brooksville police officer tried to stop the suspect's vehicle on Jefferson Street, but the man drove off. After a brief car chase, the man crashed the car into a wooded area at Main Street and State Road 50, Tincher said. Police officers, state troopers and sheriff's deputies were unable to find the suspect after an extensive search. Anyone with information about Thursday's shooting is urged to call the Brooksville Police Department's anonymous tip line at 754-6825.
