"THE MOST WONDERFUL TIME OF THE YEAR,' a musical variety show, opens today at Angel Cabaret Theatre, 5201 U.S. 19, New Port Richey and continues through Dec. 25. Shows are at 8 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays, 6 p.m. Sundays and 1:30 p.m. some Wednesdays and Saturdays. Doors open two hours before each show for buffet and cash wine and beer bar. SIGHTS AND SOUNDS OF CHRISTMAS' continues through Dec. 14 at the Harry Bollback Performing Arts Center, 13241 Word of Life Dr., Hudson off Hudson Avenue just west of Hays Road. The show, called Christmas in the 40's, includes traditional and religious Christmas songs, a large cast wearing more than 500 colorful costumes, a depiction of the Bethlehem nativity and live animals on stage. Tickets are $20 adults, $18 age 55 and older, $5 ages 12 and younger; group rates available; all plus $2 transaction fee per order. "CHRISTMAS IN THE COURTYARD' will feature the duo Future Perfect doing songs from their newest album, Songs of Christmas Future, from noon-3 p.m. Sat. at The Potting Shed, 6040 Main St., New Port Richey. Future Perfect is Dave Eichenberger and Misha Penton; their music uses loops, drones, flute and guitar, as well as vocals, and has been described as "art music." The concert is free.

THE ANGELUS CHRISTMAS PAGEANT, a living narration of the Christmas story, with choir, will be presented at 6:30 p.m. Sat., Sun. and Dec. 14, 20 and 21 at The Angelus, 12413 Hudson Ave., Hudson. Following the 30-minute presentation, there will be refreshments in the Activity Center. The pageant is outdoors and will not be performed in the event of rain or extreme cold. There will be no admission charge or solicitation.

"WATER MUSIC' will be performed by The Florida Orchestra at 3 p.m. Sun. at the Center for the Arts at River Ridge, Town Center Road, New Port Richey. The program includes Mendelssohn's Calm Sea, Prosperous Voyage, Sousa's Hands Across the Sea March, Handel's Water Music, Mancini's Moon River and others. Tickets are $21, $23 and $26. "AMAHL AND THE NIGHT VISITORS' and "Christmas With the Wilsons' will be presented at 3 p.m. Sun. at Tarpon Springs Performing Arts Center, 324 Pine St., Tarpon Springs. Amahl, Gian-Carlo Menotti's short opera, features Mary Ann Edwards as Amahl, television anchorman John Wilson as narrator; and Mary K. Wilson as Amahl's mother. After intermission, the Wilsons will sing holiday music. Tickets are $13. Call 942-5605.

RUSSIAN PIANIST OKSANA will perform at 4 p.m. Sunday at Victory Worship Church, 3545 Universal Plaza (corner of Moog Road and U.S. 19), Holiday. Admission is free, but a donation will be accepted. Coffee and desserts will be served.

A 100-VOICE CHOIR WILL PERFORM "That's Good News" at 4 p.m. Sat. and 7 p.m. Sun. at First United Methodist Church, 13123 U.S. 19, Hudson. The Christmas event features singing, drama and a narrator. Donations of canned food items for holiday baskets will be accepted.

THE KING OF GLORY JUBILEE SINGERS will perform at 2 p.m. Wed. at the Performing Arts Guild of Pasco County's meeting, 4820 Floramar Terr., Gulf Harbors, Port Richey. The public is invited.

PIANIST KRISTIAN BANATZIANOU will perform "Impromptu @ the Library" at 7 p.m. Thurs. at Hudson Regional Library, 8012 Library Road, Hudson. There is no admission charge.

VISUAL ARTS

WORKS BY NINETEEN ARTISTS are on exhibit through Jan 31 in the foyer of the West Pasco Government Center, 7530 Little Road. The display includes watercolors, pastels, acrylics and oils of landscapes, animals, buildings and still life. Most of the paintings can be purchased. The exhibit is sponsored by the Pasco Arts Council

ARTISTS FILOMENA DE ANDRADE BOOTH and Lee Canalizo, potter Christa Stanelun and jeweler Liz Dono are featured artists at the December exhibit at Progress Energy Art Gallery, 6231 Grand Blvd., New Port Richey. A reception honoring the artists is 5 to 8 p.m. today. Viewing hours are 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. weekdays through Dec. 31. There is no admission charge.

"HOLIDAY HOUSE' at Pasco Arts Center is open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Mondays through Fridays. The center is at 5744 Moog Road, Holiday (behind Centennial Library). The center is decorated for the holidays and the gift shop is selling handmade ornaments and fine crafts.

PAINTINGS AND LITHOGRAPHS by artist Stephen Kline continue through Dec. 14 at the Pasco-Hernando Community College West Campus's Pottberg Library. The exhibit features presidential portraits, lithographs of dogs and language. Viewing hours are 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Mondays through Fridays; 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays; and 2 to 4 p.m. Sundays.

A CHRISTMAS BOUTIQUE is being held 1 to 4 p.m. weekdays Monday-Dec. 20 at the West Pasco Art Guild, 6206 Jefferson St., New Port Richey. Paintings, sculptured ceramics. Christmas ornaments, seashell mirrors and jewelry are on exhibit and for sale.

HOLIDAY TOUR OF HISTORIC HOMES of Tarpon Springs will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sat. The tour includes five private residences, an historic house museum, a bed-and-breakfast and a church. Some of the sites are decorated for the holidays. Tickets are $20 and are available at 23 Parkin Court and at the Historical Society office at the Depot Museum, 160 E. Tarpon Ave. Advance tickets are available at the depot from 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. today.

TOURS OF FOUR HOMES in Brooksville and Dogwood Estates are on the Brooksville Music Club's 46th annual Musicade on Sunday. Three of the homes will have musical entertainment; the fourth will have refreshments. Tours leave from Hernando Plaza on U.S. 41 near downtown Brooksville at 1, 2 and 3 p.m. Tickets are $15, available at Papa Joe's Restaurant off U.S. 19 on Spring Lake Highway and Patricia's Boutique, 15 S Broad St., Brooksville. "HOME FOR THE HOLIDAYS,' a tribute to America's veterans, will be presented at Stage West Community Playhouse, 8390 Forest Oaks Blvd., Spring Hill on Thursday-Dec. 14. Shows are at 8 p.m., except Dec. 14 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults; $5 ages 17 and younger; $2 discount for season ticket holders. CURTAIN CALLS

AUDITIONS FOR "FEAR OF FILING,' a musical comedy about a romance between an IRS collector and a "victim," will be at 7 p.m. Sunday and Monday at Richey Suncoast Theatre, 6237 Grand Blvd., New Port Richey. Roles are open for men and women ages 20-60, plus a voice that can play Orbit, the IRS computer. Production dates are Feb. 26-March 14.

AUDITIONS FOR THE MUSICAL "JEKYLL & HYDE" will be held at 7 p.m. today and 1 p.m. Saturday at Stage West Community Playhouse, 8390 Forest Oaks Blvd., Spring Hill. Director Barbara Everest needs 14 men, four women and a very strong chorus. Auditioners should come prepared to read from the script and sing from sheet music or bring a CD or tape. LOOK AHEAD

FLORIDA SKATING ACADEMY will perform "Christmas in the USA" at 2 p.m. Dec. 14 at SpinNations Skating Center, 8345 Congress St., Port Richey. Tickets are $6 in advance at the center from 9 a.m. to noon on Sat. and from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Dec. 11 and 12, or $8 at the door on the day of the show.

THE CRESTS with Tommy Mara (Sixteen Candles) will headline the Aripeka Elks Lodge dinner show on Dec. 13 at the lodge, 9135 Denton Ave., Hudson. ANGELS ON HIGH, a display of lighted angels and nightly entertainment, will be at Spring Hill Community Association, on Hunter Lake, Kenlake Ave., Spring Hill, Dec. 13-20. Hours are 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. each night. Tickets to the entertainment will be distributed on a first-come, first-serve basis.
