CONSTRUCTION

Rob Baker has been promoted to senior vice president in charge of Tampa operations for Centex Rooney Construction Co., Plantation. Baker was vice president for Central Florida operations in Orlando.

EMPLOYMENT SERVICES

First Advantage Corp., St. Petersburg, announced the following promotions: Bart Valdez, to president of enterprise screening services division; David Kennedy, to president of the employment screening services division; Steven Flack, to president of the occupational health services division; and Andrew Macdonald, to vice president and business development officer. Valdez was president of the employement screening services division; Kennedy was vice president of operations for the employment screening services division; Flack was chief operating officer of Registry-SafeRent, First Advantage's resident screening services subsidiary; and Macdonald was president of the occupational health services division.

FINANCING

Denise Clemence has been named vice president of new business development for Mercantile Commercial Capital LLC's new Tampa location. Clemence was a consultant for CoStar Group Inc., Bethesda, Md.

Carleton D. Compton has been named a trust and investment specialist for Coast Trust Co., Tampa. Compton was a financial consultant for Smith Barney, Tampa.

INSURANCE

Brian Smith has been selected to attend Leadership Tampa's Class of 2004. Smith is vice president of employee benefits for Acordia Insurance, Clearwater.

LEGAL

Robert M. Fulton has been recognized by the University of Florida college of liberal arts and ciences with a 2003 Outstanding Alumni award. Fulton is a shareholder in the litigation group at the law firm of Hill, Ward & Henderson, Tampa.

Howard P. Ross has been named to the American Arbitration Association's national committee roster of neutrals. Ross is chairman of the board for Battaglia, Ross, Dicus & Wein, St. Petersburg.

Stephen H. Reynolds has been appointed by Gov. Jeb Bush to the Pilotage Rate Review Board. Reynolds is a shareholder and practices in the land use and environmental law areas for the law firm of Macfarlane Ferguson & McMullen, Tampa.

Mark J. Wolfson has been elected to serve on the executive committee of the Florida Bar business law section for 2003-04 as secretary-treasurer. Wolfson is chairman of the litigation department and leader of the business reorganizations practice group for the Southeast region for the law firm of Foley & Lardner, Tampa.

TECHNOLOGY

John R. Bertocchini has been named regional director for Ground Control's new Tampa office. Bertocchini was director of program management and senior manager of the network operations center for Intermedia Communications, Tampa.
