SPRING HILL - A 51-year-old Elfers man was killed when the blue Yamaha motorcycle he was riding struck a pickup truck in Spring Hill on Monday afternoon.

The accident occurred about 4 p.m. as a Toyota truck was heading east on Bay Drive, said Florida Highway Patrol Trooper Gail Rodriguez.

As the red pickup crossed the intersection of Bay Drive and Deltona Boulevard, the motorcyclist, who was traveling north in the right lane of Deltona, barreled into the truck, Rodriguez said. The intersection is not regulated by traffic lights, but there is a stop sign.

The impact sent the cyclist flying through the air and into the passenger side window of the pickup. The 2-door truck came to a rest on the shoulder of Deltona Boulevard after hitting a small tree.

"(The victim) was partially in and partially out of the window," Rodriguez said. "It did not look good."

The motorcyclist was taken by helicopter to Bayfront Medical Center in St. Petersburg, where he was pronounced dead. The driver of the truck was also flown to Bayfront for injuries from the crash. His condition was unknown Monday evening.

"It looks like he is going to make it," Rodriguez said.

FHP did not identify either the cyclist or the pickup driver pending notification of their relatives. The accident remains under investigation.
