ORLANDO - The Magic turned up its game and the volume, beating the Suns 105-98 on Monday night to snap a 19-game losing streak.
As the music blared, coach Johnny Davis accepted a bottle of champagne in honor of his first win since taking over for Doc Rivers on Nov. 18.
The Magic, 1-9 under Davis, avoided becoming only the sixth team in league history to lose 20 straight. The streak was the league's longest since 1997-98, when the Nuggets lost 23 straight to tie the 1995-96 Vancouver Grizzlies for consecutive losses in a season. The overall record is 24 by the Cavaliers at the end of 1981-82 and start of the next season.
The Magic climbed out of a 22-point hole in the first quarter to win for the first time since Oct. 29, an overtime victory in the opener at New York. It was the third-biggest comeback in team history and the largest deficit the Magic has overcome at home.
"We just kept fighting, even though we knew that it was an uphill battle," Davis said. "That's really what we've done throughout this streak. We've been fighting and we're bringing it, but we didn't close out the games.
"Tonight, we did."
Tracy McGrady had 16 points, 11 rebounds and a season-high nine assists. Drew Gooden scored 15 of his 21 in the first half.
For once, the Magic was on the good side of a late-game surge, closing on a 10-2 run.
Phoenix coach Frank Johnson was ejected with 12.4 seconds left.
"The free-throw discrepancy was unreal," said Johnson, noting the 32-11 edge in favor of Orlando. "I'll leave it at that.
The Suns were playing without Amare Stoudemire (ankle sprain), their best rebounder and shot blocker. The second-year forward is expected to miss four weeks.
HORNETS 91, BUCKS 85: Jamaal Magloire had 20 points and 11 rebounds, including three late baskets, to help lift host New Orleans. Baron Davis added 18 points and 10 assists on a night when he struggled with his shot (6-of-25). But his floater off the glass with 30 seconds left and three free throws on the Hornets' next two possessions kept the Bucks at bay.
SPURS 96, BULLS 82: Manu Ginobili scored 14 of his 26 in the final five minutes to lead visiting San Antonio. Tim Duncan had 17 points and 14 rebounds for the Spurs, who won their third straight. Eddy Curry scored all 16 of his points in the fourth quarter, but it was not enough to keep the Spurs from sweeping Chicago for a third straight season.
CELTICS 102, JAZZ 80: Mike James had 18 points and nine assists and Boston won in Utah for the first time in almost four years. The Celtics were 1-13 in their past 14 visits and had not won in Salt Lake since Feb. 15, 2000. The Celtics forced 19 turnovers and led by 33 in the fourth.
EXTENSION: The league extended the collective-bargaining agreement with players through the 2004-05 season. The original deal, struck in January 1999, came after a lengthy lockout that cut the 1998-99 season short. Both sides agreed Monday to meet regularly in order to reach a new, long-term agreement.
HAWKS: Stephen Jackson was suspended for tonight's game against Denver for conduct detrimental to the team.
NETS: The team and the New York Yankees reached a preliminary agreement to dissolve YankeeNets, created when the teams merged four years ago. Yankees owner George Steinbrenner and Nets owners Lewis Katz and Ray Chambers have been negotiating a reverse stock swap in which they would reacquire the shares in their teams that were exchanged at the time of the merger.
76ERS: Allen Iverson (knee) will miss tonight's game at Detroit against former coach Larry Brown. He is the league's leading scorer, averaging 29.4.
