GAINESVILLE - Jonathan Garner threw for one touchdown and ran for another, and Donald Bentley kicked three field goals as Daytona Beach Mainland beat Naples 24-13 for the Class 5A state title on Friday.

Mainland was the first Volusia County team to reach the state championship.

Naples allowed seven more points Friday than it had in its previous seven games combined.

Bentley's third field goal gave Mainland a 17-13 lead late in the third. Then Garner hit Travis Parks with a 25-yard touchdown with 7:26 left to make it 24-13.

Naples had a chance to get back into in after recovering a fumble at its 44 with 5:00 left. Dan Dunford's 51-yard run made it first and goal at the 5, but Jamelle Eugene was stopped on fourth down from the 2.

CLASS 2A: John Dunlap caught touchdowns of 24 and 25 yards to lead Hollywood Chaminade to a 27-0 victory against Madison County. Ale Broomfield's 4-yard run, which capped an 80-yard drive, made it 14-0 2:30 into the second quarter. Only 1:19 later, Stevie Williams returned a blocked punt 5 yards to make it 20-0.
