Attackers of pig deserve tough justice

Published December 14, 2003

Re: 2 teens arrested in pig's beating, story, Dec. 10.

Sure hope the parents of these two boys are real proud. I can only hope they not only lock these two criminals up, but they throw away the keys.

They were "bored." One can only hope somebody takes a BOARD to them. These two juveniles are on a perfect path to being adult criminals. Studies have shown that most serial murderers started out as animal abusers and went on from there. Hopefully, our justice system won't let these two off easy. Give them the most sentence allowed by law.

Phil the Pig lay in his own blood for who knows how long, while these two bored thugs probably laughed about their crime. Are you two morons even aware that a pig has feelings, is an intelligent animal? In fact, pigs are more intelligent than dogs. Phil knew he was beaten by two thugs, who deserve no less done to them than what they did to him.

The real animals are in the Juvenile Detention Center now.

Attack was vicious

Re: 2 teens arrested in pig's beating, story, Dec. 10.

Bored? Bored might lead to trespassing, but I feel "vicious" is the appropriate word for an attack on a defenseless animal. Using the word "bored" was an insult to my intelligence.

This attack brought back some very sad memories of the attack on the llamas by Robert Pettyjohn. As many of you might remember, Mr. Pettyjohn was convicted and the county prosecutor sought the maximum penalty available. I certainly hope that should these two young men be convicted of this attack, that the prosecutors again seek the maximum penalty available by the current law. It is a known fact that attacks on animals can be just the beginning. These attacks can escalate into attacks on humans if the attackers do not receive stiff penalties and proper treatment for their crimes.

I would like to applaud the students of Tarpon Springs High School. At least the attack generated positive publicity for the agriscience class and students. Good luck, Phil!

Thanks for Phil coverage

Re: 2 teens arrested in pig's beating, story, Dec. 10.

Thank you for the front page coverage of Phil, the injured pig. Pigs have the intelligence of a 3-year-old child and are just as sensitive as the family dog or cat. Sadly, countless animal abuse cases each year are exposed. I hope his attackers are prosecuted to the strictest penalty of the law. Terrorism on animals should not be tolerated.
