OKAHUMPKA - A pickup crossed into oncoming traffic on Florida's Turnpike on Sunday and hit a tanker carrying 9,300 gallons of gas, killing the pickup driver.

The accident, about 34 miles northwest of Orlando, closed all northbound lanes on the turnpike for six hours, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Alphonso Bradley Jr., 32, of Citra, died when his 2002 Chevrolet Silverado crossed into the northbound lanes and hit the tanker, causing it to flip. Bradley wasn't wearing a seat belt, troopers said.

The tanker driver, Damon Wayne Boss, 32, of Ocoee, was hospitalized at Leesburg Regional Medical Center. His condition was not released Sunday.

Workers pumped the fuel into a new truck before removing the tanker. One southbound lane also was closed because of the crash.
