Spring Hill district to save on new fire truck

SPRING HILL - The new fire truck the Spring Hill Fire Rescue District is purchasing will come with a nice Christmas discount.

The new Pierce Quantum truck, which fire commissioners approved Wednesday night, will cost $324,718 - about $25,000 less than previously expected.

Commission Chairman Jeffrey Hollander credited fire Chief J.J. Morrison with negotiating a steeper discount than expected and arranging a better trade-in deal on an old engine the district will part with.

The new truck, for Station 3 firehouse, should be delivered next summer. The vehicle is a departure from the district's current engines because its water gauges are on the top of the truck instead of the side. Morrison says the new perch will keep the truck's engineer out of traffic and give him a better vantage point at fire scenes.

The fire district has one fire engine at each of its four stations. A fifth engine is kept in reserve.
