CLEARWATER - The City Commission voted Thursday to lease Jack Russell Memorial Stadium to the Winning Inning, a Clearwater business that offers baseball and athletic training.
Under the terms of the lease, the business would not pay the city to rent the stadium, but it would maintain the stadium at its own expense. The new tenants would also pay their own property taxes.
The city would save $5,000 to $6,000 in annual maintenance costs by leasing the stadium. Shifting the property tax burden onto the new tenant would save another $25,000 to $30,000, the city staff says.
