GAINESVILLE - After carefully reviewing tape from the Nov. 29 Florida-Florida State game, ACC commissioner John Swofford acknowledged officials "made some mistakes" and the matter will be handled within the conference, Florida athletic director Jeremy Foley said Monday.
"In a conversation with me, he admitted some mistakes were made," Foley said. "Commissioner Swofford said he'll handle it internally and I believe they will."
Foley said he, Swofford and SEC commissioner Mike Slive had several conversations the past three weeks about the officiating. FSU won 38-34. Afterward, Foley complained about a half-dozen questionable calls and said he would seek a change in the longstanding policy of having the visiting team's conference officials work the game.
"As far as future officiating crews, that's something that will be discussed," Foley said. "(FSU athletic director) Dave Hart and I will discuss the contract sometime in the spring."
MARTIN TRANSFER: Three weeks after quarterback Ingle Martin announced he would leave Florida, he has decided on a school. Martin will transfer to I-AA Furman, the Sun-Sentinel reported.
"I just want to be somewhere I can play and enjoy it for a couple more years," Martin told the newspaper from his home in Nashville. As a redshirt sophomore, Martin started four games this season before being replaced by freshman Chris Leak.
ZAUNBRECHER A CANDIDATE: Florida offensive coordinator Ed Zaunbrecher interviewed for coach at Cincinnati. The Bearcats are seeking a replacement for coach Rick Minter, who was fired at the end of the season.
PRAIRIE VIEW A&M: Henry Frazier, who was 26-24 in five years at Bowie State, was hired as coach of the I-AA school. First-year coach C.L. Whittington was fired at the end of the 1-9 season.
