Wannstedt's future cloudy after ouster

DAVIE - The Dolphins found themselves in an unusual position Monday: getting ready for a game without any postseason implications.

Miami was eliminated from the playoffs late Sunday, when Denver defeated Indianapolis.

The Dolphins (9-6) finish with an essentially meaningless game against the Jets (6-9) on Sunday.

And while the postseason fate is certain, coach Dave Wannstedt's future is not. Despite a 40-23 record and two playoff berths in four seasons, Wannstedt might not return.

"It's not about me," Wannstedt insisted. "It's about our football team getting ready for this week's game. We'll deal with all those things later."

Miami defeated Buffalo 20-3 Sunday. But it proved too little, too late. The season turned with consecutive losses to New England and Philadelphia in the previous weeks.

"He definitely has my vote of confidence," quarterback Jay Fiedler said of Wannstedt. "He's been a great coach through my four years here. I support him to the fullest."
