CITRUS PARK - For one half, it looked as if Berkeley Prep might join its co-host, Jesuit, in the finals of the Student Sports Invitational at Ed Radice Park. Then the Bucs ran into the Bloomingdale buzz saw.
The Bulls scored three goals in five minutes during the second half to erase a two-goal deficit and advance to today's 4 p.m. Premier bracket final against Orange Park.
Bloomingdale (13-1-0) won the tournament in 1994 and '96 and has finished second twice. Berkeley (10-1-2) scored 10 minutes in when Scott Strickland headed in a long throw-in from Christian Martens. It made it 2-0 in the 27th minute when Tyler Davis took a throughball from Strickland cut back, beat two defenders and sent it into the far corner.
Bloomingdale got back in it in the 66th minute. Striker Alex Muniz took a pass from Tom Davison, carried it to the corner of the goal box and chipped it in off the far post. Three minutes later, Muniz scored off of a cross from David McClelland, and two minutes after that, Davison broke free in the middle and scored the winner.
Jesuit reaches Elite finalTAMPA - Jesuit coach Bob Bauman only asked for a couple of wins in the Elite bracket. Little did Bauman know he would play for a title today.
A 3-0 victory against Gulf Breeze gave Jesuit a spot in the 2 p.m. final against Brandon.
Midfielder Kevin Sierra scored the final goal midway into the second half with a long kick that rolled in. Earlier Sierra's long shot hit the upper right corner of the goalpost.
About 22 minutes in, sophomore Xaviero Pecora scored off of Tim Miller's square pass to the right.
About five minutes later, sophomore Chad Dalton scored off an assist from Sean Bayode to put Jesuit ahead 2-0.
Bauman said Jesuit's needs solid defense again in today's match against Brandon. The Eagles beat Palm Beach Gardens 3-2.
