OAKLAND, Calif. - Packers quarterback Brett Favre started against the Raiders Monday night, a day after his father died unexpectedly.
Favre made his 205th consecutive start, including playoffs, a league record for quarterbacks - and he threw two touchdowns in the first 10 minutes to pass Fran Tarkenton for second place on the league's career list.
Early in the first quarter, Favre hit tight end Wesley Walls with his 342nd career TD pass, tying Tarkenton. Moments later, Favre hit Javon Walker down the sideline for another score.
Favre trails only Dan Marino, who passed for 420 touchdowns.
Irvin Favre died Sunday night after suffering a heart attack while driving near his home in Kiln, Miss.
Brett Favre was in Oakland with the rest of the team at the time of Irvin's death.
A funeral service is scheduled for Wednesday at St. Paul Catholic Church in Pass Christian, Miss.
Irvin coached Brett in high school and the Pro Bowl player grew to appreciate the advice as he starred at Southern Mississippi and then the NFL.
"When your dad is the coach, you get extra coaching whether you want it or not," Favre said before the game. "He had a huge influence on my career and in my life. We talked football all the time."
