Boise State wins first 'road' bowl

FORT WORTH, Texas - Ryan Dinwiddie threw for 325 yards and three touchdowns to lead No. 18 Boise State to a 34-31 victory Tuesday against No. 19 TCU in the inaugural Fort Worth Bowl.

"This shows where we are as a program," Dinwiddie said. "We played a quality opponent, didn't play our best and still got the win."

Boise State, which has won 24 of its past 25, ended the season with 11 consecutive wins. The Broncos' only previous bowl games were three wins the previous four seasons in the Humanitarian Bowl on their campus.

Their bowl victory wasn't secured until sophomore Mike Wynn was well short on a 51-yard field goal, the first kick of his career, with seven seconds left.

Dinwiddie completed 19 of 35 passes with two interceptions, but his last touchdown was an 18-yarder to Derek Schouman for the winning score with 12:43 left.

He finished the season with 4,356 passing yards. In his career, he had 9,818 passing yards, 82 touchdowns and 20 interceptions.

LSU suspends two for Sugar Bowl

BATON ROUGE, La. - LSU running back Shyrone Carey and long snapper Steve Damen were declared ineligible for the Sugar Bowl because of unspecified rules violations.

No. 2 LSU plays No. 3 Oklahoma for the Bowl Championship Series title Jan. 4.

Carey began the season as one of the team's two main running backs, but his role diminished after he missed four games with a knee injury.

Center Ben Wilkerson has been long-snapping in practice and others, including backup Gant Petty, can handle the assignment, coach Nick Saban said.

"They've been warned about these types of things in the past. I'm sure they feel worse about it than anybody," Saban said.

"Everyone else is doing what these kids did. These kids are human beings. They are held to a higher standard and have a lot of rules, relative to what they can and can't do relative to a bowl game."

SENIOR BOWL: Alabama running back Shaud Williams and receiver Triandos Luke were the first players announced for Jan. 24 game. Williams led the SEC this season with 1,367 rushing yards. Luke led Alabama with 32 catches.
