PROVO, Utah - Rescue workers were searching for up to seven snowboarders believed to have been caught in an avalanche Friday, authorities said.
The avalanche occurred Friday afternoon in the Aspen Grove area of Provo Canyon, about 25 miles northeast of Provo and north of Sundance ski resort.
Utah County Sheriff's spokesman Sgt. Dennis Harris said a snowshoer who witnessed the avalanche reported that several people did not appear to come out of it.
"When it went down he couldn't see any of them," Harris said.
Rescue crews from Utah and Wasatch county as well as workers from Sundance were searching for the snowboarders or trying to confirm their whereabouts, Harris said.
Rockfall in Yosemite hurts four, damages housing
YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK, Calif. - An early morning rockfall over lodging in the Yosemite Valley injured four visitors and damaged at least six structures Friday.
Park officials said the fall occurred about 12:50 a.m. from a cliff below Glacier Point, one of the valley's most popular scenic vistas.
Most of the lodging at Curry Village is closed for the winter, but four visitors in the cabins suffered "scrapes and scratches," Park Ranger Deb Schweizer said.
About 100 visitors staying in the village of about 630 cabins and duplexes were moved in the middle of the night, Collins said.
Rockfalls are a natural occurrence in the park, where granite cliffs rise some 3,000 feet above the valley floor.
"Rockfalls happen in Yosemite. They're just not predictable," Schweizer said.
FBI gets DNA from JonBenet's clothes
DENVER - A sample of male DNA found on JonBenet Ramsey's underwear has been submitted to FBI investigators seven years after the 6-year-old was slain in her parents' home, the family attorney said Friday.
"The Ramseys have a lot of hope that the DNA will solve the case," said their lawyer, L. Lin Wood.
The DNA sample was taken from two drops of blood on the garment, which has been in storage with authorities.
JonBenet, a competitor in child beauty contests, was found beaten and strangled in the basement of her parents' Boulder home on Dec. 26, 1996.
