AFC: Titans: Rest helped QB McNair

NASHVILLE - Titans quarterback Steve McNair is feeling better than he has in five weeks and should practice this week, coach Jeff Fisher said Monday.

The Titans had the day off because they visit Baltimore on Saturday in a wild-card game.

"Wednesday will be our target day for Steve to get on the practice field," Fisher said.

McNair has not practiced for three straight weeks and missed two of the past three games because of a strained right calf muscle and a sprained left ankle with a cracked bone spur. On Sunday, Neil O'Donnell made his first start since Sept.23, 2001, in a 33-13 victory over Tampa Bay.

Fisher said the rest has helped McNair.

"He's very excited about playing this week. I don't know that he'll be 100 percent, but he will be healthy enough to play the quarterback position the way he plays it," Fisher said.

Defensive end Kevin Carter had a problem with the brachial plexus nerves that go down his arm, but Fisher said he was fine.

BRONCOS: Test results on receiver Ed McCaffrey showed no abnormalities, a day after he suffered his second concussion in three weeks.

COLTS: Strong safety Mike Doss could miss the team's first-round playoff game against Denver because of a sprained left ankle. Doss, the team's third-leading tackler, missed Sunday's game at Houston after hurting the ankle against Denver on Dec.21. Coach Tony Dungy said Doss would be a game-time decision. "It's going to be tight," Dungy said. "He ran before (Sunday's game) and there's no way he could have played."

RAVENS: The team spent 17 weeks working to make the playoffs, a struggle that ended with an overtime victory against archrival Pittsburgh in the final game of the regular season. Now Baltimore must rev it up again against Tennessee.

"My biggest concern right now is the emotional fatigue this team has gone through. We'll have to rebound that way," coach Brian Billick said. "Physically, we'll be fine. But getting them back emotionally is important."
