UConn extends home win streak

HARTFORD, Conn. - Top-ranked Connecticut earned its record-tying 69th consecutive home victory, getting a career-high 20 points from Ann Strother and 18 from Diana Taurasi in an 87-53 victory Monday against North Carolina State.

The Huskies matched the NCAA record set seven years ago by Tennessee. The Huskies ended the Vols' streak with a 59-53 victory on Jan.26, 1996. Tennessee handed UConn's its last home loss, 72-71 on Feb.2, 2000.

NO.6 MINN. 73, VA. 53: Lindsay Whalen had 31 points and Janel McCarville 22 on 10-for-10 shooting to lift the visiting Golden Gophers. LaTonya Blue paced the Cavaliers with 13 points. Both teams struggled with 3-pointers. Virginia missed all 13; Minnesota was 2-for-10.

NO.9 STANFORD 77, OREGON 51: Azella Perryman had 17 points and 11 rebounds as the Cardinal won at home against Oregon for the 17th consecutive time. Brandi Davis had 14 points for the Ducks, who scored a season low.

NO.12 GEORGIA 92, MOREHEAD ST. 42: Kara Braxton had 17 points and eight rebounds to lead the Bulldogs to their most lopsided victory in nearly two years in the Comfort Suites Classic in Richmond, Ky. Georgia, whose largest victory was 105-36 against Morris Brown on Jan.7, 2002, led 58-36 with 12 minutes left then scored the next 26.

NO.16 VA. TECH 70, WAKE 59: Dawn Chriss scored 17 and Ieva Kublina 15 as host Virginia Tech improved to 10-0. The Hokies trailed 55-54 with 2:59 left before outscoring Wake Forest 16-5.

NO.19 TCU 95, LAMAR 50: Ashley Davis and Ebony Shaw scored 17 to lead six players in double figures for the host Horned Frogs. TCU shot 53 percent during the first half and led 53-25 at halftime. TCU took advantage of 15 second-half turnovers and used an 18-0 run late to extend its lead.

NO.21 AUBURN 95, ALABAMA A&M 28: Tanesheia Thompson scored 16, and the host Tigers allowed just eight field goals. A&M trailed 47-15 at the half.

NO.23 MICH. ST. 55, CINCINNATI 43: The host Spartans held the Bearcats to 31.3 percent shooting in winning their fifth in a row. Michigan State has allowed 47.6 points a game and .297 shooting since losing at Oklahoma State on Dec.2.

MIAMI 79, NO.24 VANDY 57: Yalonda McCormick scored a career-high 28 for the host Hurricanes in the final of the Hurricanes' Holiday Classic. Miami, which extended its best start to 11-0, scored the first six and did not trail.

FSU routs Troy State

TALLAHASSEE - Genesis Choice had 18 points and 11 rebounds to lead Florida State past Troy State 80-42. The Seminoles trailed only once. Down 2-1, they went on a 14-0 run and later went on a 20-0 run to lead 32-6 with 3:40 left.
