Islamic Academy of Florida : Private school for Muslim children in grades pre-K through 12 in Temple Terrace.
Islamic Committee for Palestine: Inspired by the intifada and the belief that Americans were woefully uninformed about Palestinian issues, Sami Al-Arian formed ICP in 1988. An umbrella organization was called Islamic Concern Project, and is also referred to as ICP. Annual national conventions were organized through the early 1990s, when ICP faded along with the intifada.
International Institute of Islamic Thought : An educational institution based in Herndon, Va., which provided initial funding for the World and Islam Studies Enterprise in Tampa.
Palestine Liberation Organization: Yasser Arafat, leader of Fatah, the largest of the parties affiliated with the PLO, in 1969 became its chairman. By the late 1970s, most countries had given PLO formal recognition as representative of Palestinian people.
Patriot Act: An omnibus law of more than 340 pages passed in October just weeks after the 9/11 attack which increases penalties for terrorist activity and material support, expands government power to investigate suspects and share information between agencies, restricts entry and movement of immigrants and more national security measures.
World and Islam Studies Enterprise: Formed in 1991 by Al-Arian, WISE was to be less political than ICP and invite a broad range of opinion for publication in journals and attendance at scholarly roundtables sponsored with USF. Closed in 1995 after FBI froze its accounts.
