BARRETT, ELLIE M., 61, of Holder, died Saturday (Jan. 4, 2002) at home under the care of her daughter and Hospice of Citrus County. Born in White Plains, N.Y., she was a U.S. postal clerk at the Lecanto Post Office. Survivors include her daughter, Suzanne Barrett, Cedar Park, Texas; and a brother, William Osterhoff, Montgomery, Ala. Heinz Funeral Home & Cremation, Inverness.
BUMGARDNER, KENNETH ROBERT "BUM," 84, of Floral City, died Saturday (Jan. 4, 2002) at home. Born in Stony Bottom, W. Va., he came here in 1984 from Tampa, where he retired as president of Mutual Finance Company. He was an Army veteran of World War II, a member of First United Methodist Church of Inverness and a 50-year member of Palma Ceia Masonic Lodge 290, Tampa. Survivors include his wife of 20 years, Ruth; two sons, Robert, Atlanta, and William, Seminole; a daughter, Patricia Dymond, Manassas, Va.; and three grandchildren. Chas E. BURROWS, PATRICIA A., 65, of Inverness, died Friday (Jan. 3, 2002) at Citrus Memorial Hospital in Inverness. Born in Lansing, Mich., she had been a seasonal resident from Nashville, Mich., since 1990. She was a member of Floral City VFW Post 7122 Ladies Auxiliary. She was Catholic. DILBERT, LARICE CONSUELA, 68, of Inverness, died Friday (Jan. 3, 2002) at Citrus Memorial Hospital in Inverness. Born in Cayman Brac, Cayman Islands, she came here in 1975 from the Cayman Islands. She was a retired assistant manager in the banking industry. She was Baptist. Survivors include her husband of 48 years, Bergman; a son, Dale, Inverness; a daughter, Lisa Stoner, Hernando; three sisters, Florita Saurez and Myrna Whirthman, both of Inverness, and Pauline Poldervaart, Cayman Islands; and three grandchildren. GROOVER, OLA L., 74, of Inglis, died Thursday (Jan. 2, 2003) in Crystal River. She was a retired title clerk for Jim Walters Homes of Tampa, and a member of North Gate Baptist Church of Tampa. HEISCHMAN, MILDRED IRENE, 76, of Floral City, died Saturday (Jan. 4, 2002) at Citrus Memorial Hospital. She came here in 1977 from her native Fostoria, Ohio. She was an inspector with 23 years of service for the Excello Corporation. She was Protestant. Survivors include her husband of 33 years, Richard; two sons, Steven Risner, Plant City, and David Heischman, Orlando; three daughters, Linda Hartman, Summerfield, Vickie Risner, Floral City, and Sandra Bushong, Ocoee; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. JIMERSON, OZZIE, 77, of Chassahowitzka, died Friday (Jan. 3, 2003) at Seven Rivers Community Hospital, Crystal River. Born in Texas, he came here 15 years ago from Uvalde, Texas. He was a retired manager for Frito-Lay Company, San Antonio, Texas, and a member of First Baptist Church of Chassahowitzka. Survivors include his wife of 16 years, Ann; two step-daughters, Terri Ryan, Charleston, W. Va., and Una Walker, Victoria, Texas; a sister, Mary Hoekstra, San Antonio; and four step-grandchildren. KRANTZ, EDNA B., 91, of Homosassa, died Friday (Jan. 3, 2002) in Crystal River. She came here in 1973 from her native Milwaukee. She was a homemaker and teletype operator for Western Union, Milwaukee. She was a charter member of St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church, Beverly Hills, very active with the Ladies Guild, and at one time took the secretarial minutes. MARSHALL, FRANCES M., 81, of Crystal River, died Thursday (Jan. 2, 2002) in Crystal River. Born in Braddock, Pa., she came here in 1978 from Los Angles. She was a retired cake decorator with 29 years of service for VandeKamp Bakery, Los Angeles, and a member of St. Benedict Catholic Church. She donated much of her time to serving local charities and organizations and was well known locally for her artistic ability with watercolor and oil paintings. Survivors include a son, William Dinkfelt, Pittsburgh; a daughter, Anita Phipps, Sacramento, Calif.; two sisters, Vicki Radzyniak, Crystal River, and Dorothy Maluty, Miami; a step-son, Daniel Marshall, Mount Juliet, Tenn.; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. PENNINGTON, EUGENE PHILLIP, 63, of Crystal River, died Thursday (Jan. 2, 2002) at home. Born in Corsicana, Texas, he came here in 1974 from Cleveland, Miss. He was a structural engineer and draftsman. BUDOWSKI, SHEILA A., 46, of Brooksville, died Friday (Jan. 3, 2002) in Brooksville. Born in Charleston, W. Va., she was a longtime resident of Brooksville. She worked in the day care industry and was Protestant. FORDE, HERBERT W., 70, of Brooksville, died Friday (Jan. 3, 2002) at home under the care of Hospice. Born in Garden City, N.J., he moved to Tarpon Springs in 1985 from Portland, Maine, and then came here in the early 1990s. He owned Pens Unlimited, a wholesale office and school supply company in Portland, and was an Air Force veteran. He was a former member of Glen Lakes County Club. He was Catholic. HAUSSMAN, EARL A., 79, of Spring Hill, died Friday (Jan. 3, 2002) at Brooksville Regional Hospital. He came here 16 years ago from his native Cincinnati. He was retired with 44 years of service from U. S. Shoe Company. Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Norma; a daughter, Judith Kirby, Houston; and three grandchildren. VOLCKO, STELLA, 73, of Spring Hill, died Friday (Jan. 3, 2003) at Spring Hill Health and Rehab Center. Born in Solvay, N.Y., she came here 12 years ago from Syracuse, N.Y. She was retired from P & C Food Market, New York, and a member of St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church. BAILEY, BESSIE MAY TACKETT, 84, of Temple Terrace, died Saturday (Jan. 4, 2003). She was born in Troup, Texas. She was a teacher at Florida College Academy and a member of Citrus Park Church of Christ. Survivors include her husband, Charlie C. SMITH, THELMA JO, 80, of Holiday, formerly of Dunedin, died Sunday (Jan. 5, 2003) at Integrated Health Services of Tarpon Springs. Born in Jackson, Ky., she came to Dunedin in 1983 from Lexington, Ky., and moved to Holiday in 1987. She was a licensed insurance agent in Kentucky. She was a Kentucky Colonel. She was a member of the OES, Daughters of the American Revolution, the Dixie Groves and Forest Hills civic associations, Crime Watch Patrol, and Holiday United Church of Christ. - CURTIS, CHARLES "WALLY," 87, of Clearwater, died Friday (Jan. 3, 2003) at Largo Medical Center. He was born in Endicott, N.Y., and came here in 1973 from Guyana, South America. He was a retired foreign service operator with the U.S. State Department and had served in Costa Rica; Bangkok; Brazil; and Georgetown, Guyana. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving as a specialist in ammunition and bomb disposal. He was a member of Northwood Presbyterian Church of Clearwater, the Syracuse Alumni Association and the American Foreign Service Association. He served many years as vice president of the Miniature Art Society of Florida, where he helped establish the first society scholarship program for elementary school students at the Dunedin Fine Arts Center. He was a board member of the Florida Gulf Coast Art Center and a member of the Governing Council of the Dunedin Fine Arts Center, the Friends of the Clearwater Library, Performing Arts Center and Theater Inc., the Clearwater Concert Association. He was active in programs at On Top of the World where he was a reporter for the newsletter. Survivors include three sons, Charles W. III, Riverside, Calif., Christian A., Arlington, Va., and the Rev. James E., Thailand; a brother, William S., Pompano Beach; a sister, Elizabeth Williamson, Oswego, N.Y.; and six grandchildren. - KLEIN, JULIAN, 74, of Clearwater, died Thursday (Jan. 2, 2003) at Mease Countryside Hospital, Safety Harbor. He was born in New York City and came here in 1992 from Pittsburgh. He retired after 35 years as an insurance adjuster in Pittsburgh and Brooklyn, N.Y. He was a Navy veteran. - SMITH, JAMES MORGAN, 86, of Clearwater, died Friday (Jan. 3, 2003) at Manor Care of Dunedin. He was born in New Carlisle, Ohio, and came here in 1997 from Lumpkin, Ga. He worked for 20 years as a property appraiser at Cole, Layer, Trumbell Co., and also worked for 20 years at Frigidaire, both in Dayton, Ohio. He was a former restaurant owner in Brandt, Ohio. - BRESEE, DORIS, 80, of Largo, died Saturday (Jan. 4, 2003) at Sun Coast Hospital, Largo. She was born in Nutley, N.J., and came here in 1982 from Paramus, N.J., where she worked 12 years in the gift wrap department of Lord & Taylor and 25 years for Bloomingdale's. She was a member of the St. Petersburg Association of the Deaf, Bay Area Deaf Senior Citizens Inc., Happy Deaf 55 Club, Tampa Bay Deaf Service Citizens, Polk Golden Club of the Deaf and Zephyrhills Senior Citizens Association of the Deaf. She was Protestant. He was an Army and Marine Corps veteran. He was Baptist. - POMEROY, MARGERY E., 83, of Largo, died Friday (Jan. 3, 2003) at home under the care of Hospice of the Florida Suncoast. She was born in Moline, Ill., and came here in 1971 from Minneapolis. She was a registered nurse and graduated from the Moline Public Hospital School of Nursing. She was a first lieutenant in the Army Nurse Corps during World War II. She attended Pasadena Community United Methodist Church. Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Orville; a daughter, Holly Philip, Largo; a son, George, Minneapolis; and four grandchildren. He was a surgeon. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Calvary Baptist church, Countryside Country Club and Turner Brandon American Legion Post 7, all of Clearwater. Survivors include his wife, Becky; three sons, Dr. William Jay, Greenville, S.C., and Dr. Henry Arthur II and David A., both of Spartanburg; five grandchildren; and a great-grandson. - THEODORE, CHRIST, 88, of Oldsmar and formerly of Palm Harbor, died Friday (Jan. 3, 2003) at Hospice House Woodside, Pinellas Park. He was born in Sparta, Greece, and came here in 1970 from Chicago, where he owned and operated several restaurants and cleaning businesses. Locally he retired as owner and operator of two Greek restaurants in St. Petersburg. He was a member of St. Stefanos Greek Orthodox CHurch of St. Petersburg. He enjoyed gardening, and buying and trading automobiles. Survivors include his wife of 23 years, Adele; two daughters, Jo Ann Metropoulos, Dunedin, and Maryann Merritt, New Port Richey; a son, John Ferrari, Gulfport; a sister, Georgia Hrisomalis, Greece; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. - HAMPTON, WILLIE E. SR., 82, of Safety Harbor died Sunday (Dec. 29, 2002) at home. He came here in 1959 from his native Jackson, Miss. He worked as a brick mason for George Hunt. He was an Army veteran of World War II and was a member of Emanuel Tabernacle Baptist Church, Safety Harbor. Survivors include his wife, Ella M.; a son Willie E. Jr., Clearwater; three daughters, Margaret Tyler, Hollywood, Ernestine Hampton, Detroit, and Diane Hampton, Safety Harbor; six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren. - WHITE, MARY ANGELA, 84, of Safety Harbor, died Thursday (Jan. 2, 2003) at Mease Dunedin Hospital. She was born in Cambridge, Mass., and came here in 1958 from Boston. She was a retired cosmetologist. She was a member of Espiritu Santo Catholic Church, Safety Harbor, and the Catholic Daughters. Survivors include three sons, Joseph, Tarpon Springs, Ben III, Bayonet Point, and Richard, Portage, Mich.; 11 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. - DOHERTY, LOIS IRENE, 86, of Tarpon Springs and formerly of Clearwater, died Saturday (Jan. 4, 2003) at Helen Ellis Memorial Hospital, Tarpon Springs. She was born in Clinton Corners, N.Y., and came here in 1970 from Long Island, N.Y. She was Catholic. Survivors include two daughters, Maureen M. Tsavaris, Tarpon Springs, and Patricia I. Fierro, Northport, N.Y.; a brother, Charles Bryden, Napa, Calif.; two sisters, Gertrude Amodio, Clearwater, and Betty Gossoo, Canada; three grandchildren; and a great-grandson. - FORDE, HERBERT W., 70, of Brooksville, formerly of Tarpon Springs, died Friday (Jan. 3, 2003) at home under the care of Hernando Hospice. Born in Garden City, N.J., he came to Tarpon Springs in 1985 from Portland, Maine, and moved to Brooksville in the early 1990s. He owned and operated Pens Unlimited in Portland, a wholesale office and school supply company. He was an Air Force veteran. He was a former member of Glen Lakes Country Club. He was Catholic. Survivors include a son, Scott W., New Orleans; three daughters, Linda Forde MacQuinn, New Orleans, Donna Forde Terrase, Waco, Texas, and Debora J. Forde, Naples; two brothers, Barry V., Tarpon Springs, and Donald, Hot Springs Village, Ark.; a sister, Grace Marie Forde, Redford, Mich.; and four grandchildren. - JOHNSON, DOROTHY LOUISE, 81, of Spring Hill, formerly of Dade City, and Tarpon Springs, died Tuesday (Dec. 31, 2002) in Spring Hill. She was born in Tarpon Springs and moved in 1982 to Spring Hill from Dade City. She was Baptist. Survivors include two sons, Charles White, Zephyrhills, and Ricky White, Kissimmee; a daughter, Dotty Porter, Spring Hill; eight grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Indian Shores
- MONTANA, EMIL P., 83, of Kinnelon, N.J., and a seasonal resident of Indian Shores, died Friday (Jan. 3, 2003) at home in Indian Shores. He was born in New York City and had been coming here from Kinnelon for 25 years. He was the owner of an electrical display company. He attended St. Jerome Catholic Church. Survivors include two sons, John "Buddy," Saddle River, N.J., and Raymond, Lighthouse Point; two daughters, Kathy Kithcart, Kinnelon, and Jean Montana, Indian Shores; nine grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. - BOWLER, PEARL H., 91, of Pinellas Park, died Saturday (Jan. 4, 2003) at We Care Nursing Center, Wildwood. She was born in Oneida, N.Y., moved to Clearwater in 1956 from Tappan, N.Y., and came to Pinellas Park in 1998. She was a retired executive secretary for Arroyo Process Equipment in Clearwater. - KNUTSON, CLEUSA G., 81, of Pinellas Park, died Saturday (Jan. 4, 2003) at Hospice House Woodside. She was born in Bagni di Lucca, Italy, and came here in 1972 from Greece. - GRINIS, DR. GEDAS, 80, of St. Pete Beach, died Saturday (Jan. 4, 2003) at Palms of Pasadena Hospital, South Pasadena. He was born in Lithuania and came here in 1987 from Flossmoor, Ill. He earned his medical degree in 1947 from Karls Eberhard Unversity in Germany and served his internship and residency at St. Mary's Hospital in Brooklyn, N.Y. He had a private medical practice in Harvey, Ill., for 25 years and retired in 1987. He was a member of the medical staff at Ingalls Memorial Hospital, where he served on several committees and was secretary and treasurer from 1973 to 1974. He was a member of St. Casimir's Mission in St. Pete Beach, the Lithuanian-American Club, the American Medical Association and the Lithuania American Medical Association. He was a physician in the U.S. Army Medical Corp, earning the rank of major. Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Aldona M.; a son, Dr. Gedas, Kenosha, Wis.; a daughter, Dr. Asta Grinis Vaidila, St. Pete Beach; and five grandchildren. Beach Memorial Chapel, St. Pete Beach.
