DAVIS, GUY S., 65, of Spring Hill, died Monday (Jan. 6, 2003) in Weeki Wachee under the care of his family and Hernando-Pasco Hospice. Born in Cape Charles, Va., he came here two years ago from Vernon, N.J. He was a retired pressman for the New York Times. GROSS, LARRY RAY, 44, of Inverness, died Sunday (Jan. 5, 2003) at home. Born in York, Pa., he came here in 1995 from Cocoa. He was a welder. MORAWSKI, ROSE MARIE, 78, of Crystal River, died Sunday (Jan. 5, 2003) at home. Born in Joliet, Ill., she came here 30 years ago from Chicago and was a homemaker. MORROW, DOROTHEA, 84, of Hernando, died Sunday (Jan. 5, 2003) at Woodland Terrace, Hernando. Born in Chicago, she came here last year from Winnetka, Ill., and was a retired Realtor. SCHAEFFER, BENJAMIN D., 75, of Floral City, died Monday (Jan. 6, 2003) in Inverness. Born in Traverse City, Mich., he came here in 1989 from Muskegon, Mich. He was an automotive parts manufacturer for SPX Corp., a member of United Auto Workers Local 637 and a Navy veteran of World War II. He was Baptist. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Mae Gilmore; four sons, Carl and William, both of Muskegon, Curtis V., Hesperia, Mich., and Bruce, Whitehall, Mich.; two brothers, Louis Irwin and Seth Schaeffer, both of Muskegon; 17 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. SHEATZLEY, GILBERT E., 88, of Homosassa, died Thursday (Jan. 2, 2003) at Lake Harris Health Center, Leesburg. He was a grocery store owner and was a member of First United Methodist Church of Homosassa. He was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II, achieving the rank of staff sergeant. van den THOORN, GERALDINE "GERRY," 63, of Inverness, died Monday (Jan. 6, 2003) at home under the care of her family and Hospice of Citrus County. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she came here in 1998 from Atlanta. She was a homemaker and worked in various jobs. She was a Third Order Franciscan and a Eucharistic Minister at her home parish, Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church. She was active in the pro-life movement. She volunteered in thrift stores, soup kitchens, Pregnancy Crisis Center and was store manager for the St. Vincent de Paul Society. Survivors include her husband, Gerrit; five daughters, Jean Schick, Newnan, Ga., Dorothy Michael, Long Island, N.Y., Gail Morton, Athens, Ga., Patty Wetzel, Bath, Pa., and Lee DiMichele, Stroudsburg, Pa.; two sons, Joseph Sougstad, Spring Hill, and Eric Sougstad, Long Island; three brothers, James Lynch, Melbourne Beach, John Lynch, New York, and Mortimer Lynch, Florida; and 21 grandchildren. VANDEBURGT, ELSIE MAE, 70, of Homosassa, died Monday (Jan. 6, 2003) in Crystal River. Born in Milwaukee, she came here eight years ago from Highland, Calif. She was a retired waiter and was a member of Moose Auxiliary 1439 and Homosassa First United Methodist Church. Survivors include her daughter, Linda Elizarde, Floral City; three sons, Richard and Ronald Capito, both of Arizona, and Frank Capito, Idaho; three brothers, Edward and Chuck Meyer, both of California, and Bobby Meyer, Chicago; two sisters, Dorothy Gomez and Carol Meyer, both of California; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. YONKIN, ESTHER M., 78, of Floral City, died Monday (Jan. 6, 2003) at home under the care of her family and Hospice of Citrus County. Born in Binghamton, N.Y., she came here in 1974 from Columbus, Ga., and was a retired registered nurse. She was a member of the Citrus County Historical Society, Friends of the Library, VFW Auxiliary and Floral City United Methodist Church. DURBAL, RONALD, 77, of Spring Hill, died Monday (Jan. 6, 2003) at home. Born in Detroit, he came here in 1985 from Dearborn, Mich. He was an Army Air Forces veteran and a member of the Masonic Lodge. FERRO, WILLIAM, 72, of Spring Hill, died Monday (Jan. 6, 2003) at Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point. Born in Queens, N.Y., he came here 10 years ago from Seattle. He was an aeronautical engineer and retired from Boeing Aircraft. He was an Air Force veteran. He was a member Scottish Rite Valley of Tampa, Hernando County Shrine Club, Egypt Temple of the Shrine Tampa and Mariner United Methodist Church. He was a life member of Damascus F&AM Lodge 199. Born in Burns City, Ind., she moved to Inverness 13 years ago from Plant City. She was a member of the Hernando Church of the Nazarene. Survivors include a son, Thomas L.; three sisters, Bernice Williams, Odon, Ind., Josephine George and Ruth Wray, both of Bedford, Ind.; six grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. BUMGARDNER, KENNETH ROBERT "BUM," 84, of Floral City, formerly of Tampa, died Saturday (Jan. 4, 2003) at home. He was born in Stony Bottom, W.Va., and moved to Floral City in 1984 from Tampa, where he retired as president of the Mutual Finance Co. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a 50-year member of Palma Ceia Masonic Lodge 290, Tampa, and a member of First United Methodist Church of Inverness. GREENAN, HELIECE, 92, of Tampa, died Sunday (Jan. 5, 2003) at Kindred Hospital, Tampa. A lifelong resident of Tampa, she was a stenographer for the Scottish Rite of Tampa and was a graduate of Hillsborough High School. Survivors include two sons, Keith Greenan, Tampa, and Gary C. KARSHAN, DONALD, 73, of Tampa, died Saturday (Jan. 4, 2003). Born in New York, he moved to Tampa several years ago from Port Orange. He was a prominent art writer, collector, critic and patron and was the author of The Language of the Print and Archipenko, International Visionary. He was a print editor of Art in America and had articles published in Arts, Studio International, Flash Art and Art in America. He was the director emeritus of the New York Cultural Center, founder and past director of the Museum of Graphic Arts, a faculty member of the New School for Social Research, Long Island University and was the recipient of the special collier of the International Association of University Presidents for his contributions to the arts. As a child, he was the winner of the annual Wanamaker National Art Competition and attended New York's High School of Music and Art and was enrolled in Art Student League classes. He was chairman of the Volusia County Cultural Arts Advisory Board for six years and an honorary lifetime member. The Volusia County Council pronounced a Donald Karshan Day in honor of him. Survivors include his wife, Maurie; three sons, Shane, Gregory and Alexander; two daughters, Andrea and Michelle; two stepsons, Ben and Steve Cristal; a stepdaughter, Teresa Serrano; and four grandchildren. MOORE, MARY ELIZABETH, 76, of Brandon, died Wednesday (Jan. 1, 2003). Born in Philadelphia, she moved to the Tampa area in 2002 from Baton Rouge, La. She was a homemaker, president of the Altar Guild and a member of Daughters of the King at St. Francis Episcopal Church, Louisiana. REZABALA, PATRICK KELBER, 40, of Saginaw, Mich., formerly of Tampa, died Sunday (Jan. 5, 2003) at Covenant Health Care, Saginaw. Born in Guayagayo, Ecuador, he moved to Tampa in 1987 and to Saginaw in 1996. He was a hair stylist and a member of Hillsdale Baptist Church, Tampa. THOMAS, JAMES DIXON JR., 56, of Plant City, died Friday (Jan. 3, 2003). Born in Savannah, Ga., he was a longtime resident of the Tampa area. He was a driver/dispatcher for EMC Ewell Industries in Lakeland and was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a member of Southside Baptist Church. She was a retired senior administrator with the Los Angeles Police Department and was associated with the Paralyzed Veterans Association. CRAWLEY, DONALD "DON," 69, of New Port Richey, died Friday (Dec. 27, 2002) at Community Hospital of New Port Richey. He came here in 1991 from his native Troy, N.Y. He was a greeter and clerk at Wal-Mart in New Port Richey. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War and a member of Alcoholics Anonymous New Port Richey. He was Catholic. DADDIO, JOSEPH FRANK, 79, of New Port Richey, died Monday (Jan. 6, 2003) in New Port Richey. Born in Woodmere, N.Y., he came here in 2001 from Winchester, Va. He was a retired meat cutter and a member of Evangel Assembly of God, New Port Richey. He was an Army Air Forces veteran of World War II and a member of American Legion Post 79. He was a retired investment technician for Mellon Bank, Fort Lee, N.J., with 35 years of service. He was Presbyterian. Survivors include his wife, Dorothy E.; two stepdaughters, Joan P. GEORGIOU, PETER JOHN, 42, of Holiday, formerly of Tarpon Springs, died Saturday (Jan. 4, 2003) in Orlando. Born in Clearwater, he came to Holiday in 1991 from Tarpon Springs. He helped his father on the Dolphin Deep Sea Fishing charter boat in Tarpon Springs. Survivors include his mother, Sophia, Holiday; his father, John, a sister, Joy Sakelson, and two nephews, Johnny Sakelson and Michael Sakelson, all of Tarpon Springs. HOULE, LEO E., 83, of Hudson, formerly of Seminole, died Tuesday (Jan. 7, 2003) at Hernando-Pasco Hospice, New Port Richey. Born in Brockton, Mass., he moved to Seminole in 1976 from East Hartford, Conn., then moved to Hudson in 1982. He was a retired U.S. postal clerk and was a member of Hudson Senior Center and St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church.
