  • BAKER, EDWIN CLINTON SR., 62, of Beverly Hills, died Tuesday (Jan. 7, 2003) in Beverly Hills. Born in Philadelphia, he came here from Titusville. He was a truck driver. Survivors include two sons, Edwin C. Baker Jr. and Harry N. Baker, and two daughters, Donna J. Holloway and Michelle C. Born in North Berger, N.J., he came here in 1978 from Secaucus, N.J. He was a retired truck driver for J.J. Cullen Plumbing Supply, Hoboken, N.J. with 25 years of service.   • MALINOWSKI, ANNA M., 92, of Homosassa, formerly of Holiday, died Thursday (Jan. 9, 2003) at Seven Rivers Community Hospital, Crystal River. Born in Scranton, Pa., she came here in 2001 from Holiday. She was a retired seamstress for Miller Casket Co. with 35 years of service. She was a member of the Polish American Alliance and St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. Survivors include her sister, Helen T.   • McILRATH, WILLIAM J., 86, of Homosassa, died Tuesday (Dec. 31, 2002) at Seven Rivers Community Hospital, Crystal River. Born in Nashville, he came here in 1981 from Florence, Ala. He was a professor at the University of North Alabama from 1948 to 1978 and was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He was employed by National Fuel Gas, Buffalo, N.Y., for 37 years. He was a member of the Versailles Volunteer Fire Department. Born in Fort Dodge, Iowa, he came here in 1999 from St. Petersburg. He was an Air Force veteran and served 32 years. He achieved the rank of senior master sergeant and served in World War II, the Korean and Vietnam wars. He was a member of the American Legion, VFW, DAV and NCOA. He was a member of Nativity Lutheran Church, Weeki Wachee.   • HOWELL, CHARLES RUPERT "CHARLIE," 80, of Tampa, died Wednesday (Jan. 8, 2003). He was a longtime member and deacon pastor of Seminole Heights Baptist Church and was a volunteer at the Pregnancy Care Center. Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Jean Massey Howell; two daughters, Becky Howell and Beth Bell; a son, Charles Howell; a sister, Nadine Crews; five grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.   • LEWIS, IRMA EUNICE PREVATT, 83, of Gibsonton, died Tuesday (Jan. 7, 2003) at Tampa General Hospital. Born in Wimauma, she was a lifelong resident of the Tampa area. She and her husband, Tony Lewis, owned and operated the T & E Garage and the L & H Marina, both in Gibsonton. She was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Desoto Chapter 201, in Riverview and the International Independent Showmen's Association in Gibsonton and served during elections as a volunteer deputy clerk at the 100 Club in Gibsonton.   • MARSHALL, PERRY CORNWALL, 76, of Plant City, died Monday (Jan. 6, 2003) at South Baptist Hospital in Plant City. He was born in St. Petersburg and moved to Portland, Conn., and later Cheshire, Conn. He served during World War II in the U.S. Marine Corps and later became a U.S. Navy pilot. After his military careers, he became a well-known sculptor and artist. He retired to Plant City in 1988. A golf enthusiast, he was awarded many patents for golf equipment.   • MASSARO, JAMES "JIMMY," 91, a lifelong resident of Tampa, died Wednesday (Jan. 8, 2003). He founded Massaro Plumbing in 1947 and served as chief plumbing inspector for Hillsborough County. He was a founding member of the Palmetto Beach Athletic Club, a member of La Nuova Sicilia Unita Lodge No. 1250, and a member of Plumbers Union Local No. 123. She taught in Portuguese Azores, Japan, New York, and California before moving to Tampa in 1980, where she began 21 years as a member of the faculty of Berkeley Preparatory School. She was a graduate of Bellin College of Nursing, class of 1959, in Green Bay, and graduated summa cum laude from the University of Maryland with a bachelor's degree in nursing. Before her retirement from nursing in 1993, she was the assistant director of nursing at Fairfax Nursing Center, Fairfax, Va. She was the past president of the Carrollwood Area Women's Club, an active member of FACTors, the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center support group, and a member of St. Paul Catholic Church. He was a blacksmith and retired from the Long Island Railroad. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge, Signal Cove Association, Hudson, and Holiday Ramblers. He was an Episcopalian. She came to Clearwater in 1957 from her native Olean, N.Y., moved to New Port Richey in 1971 and returned to Clearwater in 1994. She was a registered nurse and retired after 13 years at Morton Plant Hospital, Clearwater, and formerly worked at St. Francis Hospital in Olean. He was a general laborer and an Army veteran of World War II. He was wounded twice in the Battle of the Bulge and a prisoner of war twice, escaping each time. He worked as a heavy equipment mechanic for Golden Triangle. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of Elks Lodge 2159 and American Legion Post 7, both in Clearwater. He enjoyed dancing, card playing and music, especially that of Mario Lanza. Survivors include two daughters, Robin Elder, Largo, and Faith Pitcher, Fulton, N.Y.; two sons, Nicholas, Fulton, and Timothy, Central Square, N.Y.; his mother, Nina Welch, Fulton; 14 grandchildren; a sister, Barbara Reed, Fulton; and nine great-grandchildren.     • GOETZ, ROBERT F., 82, of Clearwater, died Thursday (Jan. 9, 2003) at Highland Pines Nursing Center, Clearwater. He was born in Chicago and came here in 1974 from Lombard, Ill. He worked for the IRS Appellate in Chicago. He served as an Army captain during World War II and was wounded in Italy in 1944. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart, the World War II Victory Medal, American Campaign Medal, European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal and the Bronze Star. He was a former member of Clearwater Country Club. She was a schoolteacher for 50 years and taught 25 years in Hillsborough County and 25 at Safety Harbor Middle School and retired in 1971. She received associate and bachelor degrees from Florida Southern College in Lakeland. She was a 4-H leader and active in programs at the Senior Citizens Center, Clearwater, where she would knit and crochet items for nursing home patients. She was a descendant of two pioneer Pinellas families and was born in Clearwater. She was the daughter of Veda (Ulmer) and Chester Bartow McMullen, who was a state attorney in Pinellas County for many years and a member of the U.S. House of Representatives until he died at 50.     • SKINNER, WALLIS LEE, 77, of Clearwater, died Tuesday (Jan. 7, 2003) at the Oaks Nursing Home, Clearwater. He was born in Tampa and was a lifelong Clearwater resident. He was a land developer and helped develop Island Estates in Clearwater. He was once a manager of F.L. Skinner Groves and also had been a farmer. He had a degree in agricultural engineering from the University of Florida. He was a lifelong member of First Presbyterian Church of Dunedin.     • THORHAUG, HELENE L., 95, of Clearwater and San Miguel d'Allende, Mexico, died Wednesday (Jan. 8, 2003) at home in San Miguel d'Allende. She was born in Chicago and had lived here since 1972. She was an artist and art teacher. She studied art with Rudolph Penn, Stuart Davis, Ted Frano, Rufino Tomayo and Mexican muralist Pinto. She was active in art leagues in Chicago, Sarasota, Clearwater and Belleair. Her oil, watercolors and gouache works were exhibited in Chicago, New York, Mexico, Paris, California and Florida. Among her friends were architect Frank Lloyd Wright, at whose Taliesin home in Arizona she spent summers during World War II, inventor, architect, engineer, poet and philosopher Buckminster Fuller for whom she decorated his geodesic dome for the Chicago World's Fair and Bauhaus architect Walter Gropius. She was born in Scranton, Pa., and came here in 1979 from Fort Lee, N.J. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Clearwater, and Greenbriar Women's Club. She enjoyed cooking.
