BARRY, GENE N., 77, of Beverly Hills, died Sunday (Jan. 12, 2003) in Crystal River. Born in Blair, Neb., he came here in 1990 from Arlington, Va. He was a retired printing specialist with the federal government in Washington, D.C., with 21 years of service. He was a member of the Citrus Hills Tennis Club, Beverly Hills Recreation Center, Craftsmans Guild Beverly Hills and Blue Ridge 80th Division Veterans Association. He was an Army veteran and a life member of VFW Nesbitt Post. Survivors include his wife of 25 years, Mary J.; a son, Scott J., Fairfax Station, Va.; several nieces, nephews and cousins. BURKE, PAUL R., 76, of Beverly Hills, died Sunday (Jan. 12, 2003) in Crystal River. He was a retired Army Air Forces veteran, achieving the rank of master sergeant with 25 years of service. He served in World War II and the Korean War. He later was vice-treasurer of the Washington Savings Bank, Lowell, Mass. He was a graduate of Merrimack College, Andover, Mass., with an associate's degree in Accounting, and earned a bacherlor's degree in business from Boston State College. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus Sadlier Council. He was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church and its choir. Survivors include his son, Steven, Arizona; two sisters, Marguerite H. ESTABROOKS, EDNA F., 90, of Lecanto, died Sunday (Jan. 12, 2003) in Lecanto. Born in New York City, she came here in 1982 from Hendersonville, N.C. She was a probation officer for the state of New York. She was an Army veteran of World War II, achieving the rank of captain. She was a member of the Citrus County Art League and a lifetime honorary member of the Florida Sheriffs Association. She received her private pilot's license in 1932. FRANKER, BERNARD V., 91, of Inverness, died Sunday (Jan. 12, 2003) in Inverness. He was born in O'Brien County, Iowa. He was a printer and custom framer. He was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church. Survivors include his wife, Laverne Lisowe; a son, Terry, Inverness; two daughters, Suzette Olson, Clarinda, Iowa, and Jana Wilbourn, Rock Springs, Wyo.; a brother, Melvin, Dixley, Calif.; a sister, Leola Tucker, Spencer, Iowa; 10 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild. GARDNER, IRENE M., 81, of Crystal River, died Monday (Jan. 13, 2003) at Seven Rivers Community Hospital, Crystal River. HENNING, ERNA ELAINE, 77, of Homosassa, died Monday (Jan. 13, 2003) at Seven Rivers Community Hospital, Crystal River. Born in Chicago, she came here 23 years ago from Des Plaines, Ill., and was a retired medical receptionist. She was a member of the Citrus County Cruisers. She was Protestant. SCHELL, ANN, 89, of Homosassa, died Sunday (Jan. 12, 2003) at Surrey Place in Lecanto. Born in Perth Amboy, N.J., she came here 12 years ago from Staten Island, N.Y., and was a homemaker. STONE, RAY CHARLES, 89, of Lecanto, died Sunday (Jan. 12, 2003) in Lecanto. He came here in 1982 from his native Battle Creek, Mich. He was the retired fire chief for the City of Battle Creek with 37 years of service. SWOPE, ROBERT DAVID, 49, of Inverness, died Friday (Jan. 10, 2003) in Newnan, Ga. Born in Ypsilanti, Mich., he came here in 1999 from Atlanta. He was employed for 25 years with the Federal Bureau of Prisons, starting in Milan, Mich. He served as warden at the Coleman Federal Correctional Facility. He was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church. Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Carolyn Kuspa; a son, Kyle, Rex, Ga.; two daughters, Kim Sanecki, Hiram, Ga., and Megan Schwappach, Las Vegas; his parents, Richard and Leota Giddens Swope, Brooklyn, Mich.; two brothers, Rick and Ronald, both of Ypsilanti; and a sister, Shelly Martinez, Brooklyn, Mich; and a granddaughter. TENNEY, JOHN RAYMOND, 80, of Homosassa, died Saturday (Jan. 11, 2003) in Fort Lauderdale. Born in Colon, Mich., he came here 13 years ago from Palm Beach Gardens. He was an executive officer for Lambknit Co. and was an Army Air Forces veteran of World War II. He was a member of St. Anne's Episcopal Church. ANDERSON, FRED E., 85, of Brooksville, died Monday (Jan. 13, 2003) at Heartland of Brooksville. Born in Vidalia, Ga., he came here a year ago from Port Charlotte. He was a retired supervisor for Southern Bell Telephone Co. and was an Army Air Forces veteran of World War II. He was awarded the distinguished Flying Cross and the Silver Star. BAEZ, JOSEPH, 81, of Spring Hill, died Monday (Jan. 13, 2003) at Hernando-Pasco Hospice, Brooksville. Born in Puerto Rico, he came here seven years ago from New York City. He was a jewelry polisher. He was an Army Air Forces veteran of World War II during the invasion of Africa and Italy. He was awarded the Purple Heart. He was Catholic. He was a retired insurance and real estate salesman and a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of St. Joan of Arc Catholic Church. HARDING, LOIS ELAINE, 90, of Weeki Wachee, died Friday (Jan. 10, 2003) at Oak Hill Hospital, Spring Hill. Born in Neche, N.D., she came here 14 years ago from Hot Springs, Ark. JORDAN, ANDREW R., 86, of Spring Hill, died Sunday (Jan. 12, 2003) at Crown Pointe Senior Living Community, Spring Hill. Born in Clifton, N.J., he came here 24 years ago from East Farmingdale, N.Y. He was an electrician for the state of New York and an Army Air Forces veteran of World War II. He was a life member of VFW Post 10209 and the American Legion, and was a 50-year member Masonic Lodge Spring Hill, He was Christian. She was a retired photographer with the Federal Bureau of Investigation and was a member of First United Methodist Church. CATES, MERLIN, 72, of Riverview, died Sunday (Jan. 12, 2003). Born in Camden, Ark., he moved to the Tampa area in 1952. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, where he received the Purple Heart. He was a member of Orient Road Assembly of God. Survivors include his wife, Elsie; two sons, Donald and Gary; a daughter, Teresa Buday; seven brothers; three sisters; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. DYER, MARY LOUISE, 92, of Sun City Center, died Monday (Jan. 13, 2003). Born in Philippi, W.Va., she moved to Florida many years ago. She was a retired federal employee, was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Florida Republican Committee. ERVIN, CHARLES, 60, of Gibsonton, died Friday (Jan. 9, 2003). Born in Middleboro, Ky., he moved to the Tampa area in 1959. He was a tree surgeon and was Baptist. FITZGERALD, DONALD V., 71, of Tampa, died Saturday (Jan. 11, 2003) at James A. Haley Veterans Medical Center. Born in Erie, Pa., he moved to Tampa in 1981 from Middletown, Ohio. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Korean and Vietnam wars and was Catholic. SCOFIELD, PHILIP G. JR., 56, of Inverness, formerly of Tampa, died Saturday (Jan. 11, 2003) at Citrus Memorial Hospital, Inverness. He was born in Louisville, Ky., and came to Inverness in 1994 from Tampa. He was a respiratory therapist for various hospitals. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War. He was Catholic. WEBBER, WILLIAM HOBAN, 94, of Sun City Center, died Monday (Jan. 13, 2003). Born in Avoca, Pa., he moved to the Tampa area in 1976. He was a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, Wharton School of Business, and earned a bachelor's of law degree from George Washington University. He served as deputy director in the Office of War Information in London and was awarded the Medal of Freedom from President Eisenhower. He was executive director of the Graphics Arts Technical Foundation from 1958 to 1974. WILDER, FLORRA P., 83, of Brooksville, formerly of Tampa, died Saturday (Jan. 11, 2003) at Hernando-Pasco Hospice, Brooksville. Born in Palmetto, Ga., she moved to Brooksville 25 years ago from Tampa. She was an apartment complex manager in Tampa with more than 10 years of service and later was a business owner. AIKEY, BETTY LOUISE SHIREY, 78, of New Port Richey, died Sunday (Jan. 12, 2003) at Lake East Hospital, Painesville, Ohio. Born in Strodes Mills, Pa., she was a 30-year resident of New Port Richey. She was head hostess for Pappas Restaurant. Survivors include three daughters, Dottie Strike and Pamela Campbell, both of Painesville, and Cynthia Donahey, Pleasant Gap, Pa.; two brothers, Hen and Charles Shirey; six grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. BAKER, THOMAS H., 89, of New Port Richey, died Sunday (Jan. 12, 2003) at Bear Creek Nursing Home, Hudson. Born in Pontotoc, Miss., he came here in 1981 from Miami. He was a heavy equipment supervisor for Miami-Dade County. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the First Infantry Division. He fought in the Invasion of Normandy and was awarded two Bronze Stars. He was a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6180 and was a member of King of Kings Lutheran Church of Port Richey. BIRCHELL, EMMANUEL "MANNIE," 82, of Dade City, died Friday (Jan. 10, 2003) at Pasco Regional Medical Center, Dade City. Born in New Windsor, Ill., he came here in 1984 from Viola, Ill. He was employed in road construction. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II stationed in England. He was a member of Pasco Trotting & Pacing Association, Moose Lodge 2276, Eagles FOE and American Legion. He was the owner of El'Nido Restaurant, Port Richey. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War and served as a paratrooper in the 101st Airborne Division. RICHARDSON, ELSA G., 94, of Hudson, died Thursday (Jan. 9, 2003) at Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point. Born in Pennsylvania, she came here in 1965 from Upper Darby Township, Pa.
