ADAMS-BRILL, PHILLIP TRUMAN, 59, of Crystal River, died Friday (Jan. 17, 2003) at Seven Rivers Community Hospital, Crystal River. Born in Sandusky, Ohio, he came here recently from Hollywood, Fla. He was a truck driver for the Hardrive Trucking Co., Fort Lauderdale. He was a past member of Broward County Airboat Club. He was Catholic. Survivors include two sons, Phillip D. Brill and Johnathan D. Bowe, both of Hollywood; a daughter, Lori Adams, Crystal River; three brothers, Ronnie Adams, Ocala, Larry Slattery, Ocala, and Patrick Adams, Hollywood; two sisters, Mary Sue Motlow, Hollywood, and Dawn Teeters, Georgia; and three grandchildren. BOVICH, ANNA THERESA "ANN," 83, of New Smyrna Beach, formerly of Inverness, died Sunday (Jan. 19, 2003) at Bert Fish Medical Center in New Smyrna Beach. Born in New York City, she moved in 1966 from Farmingdale, N.Y. to Inverness, where she lived until 1995. She was a retired payroll clerk. She was Catholic. Survivors include three brothers, Francis and Edward Bovich, both of New York, and Robert Bovich, Palm Coast; several nieces; and several nephews including Warren F. Bovich, Orlando. Chas. E. MacKENZIE, ROMIE LEE DANIEL, 93, of Brooksville, died Monday (Jan. 20, 2003) at Hernando-Pasco Hospice, Brooksville. Born in Brooksville, she was a lifetime resident of Hernando. She was a 1927 graduate of Hernando High School and taught in a one-room school house in Spring Lake. She attended Florida State College for Women. She managed the office of her father, Tom Daniel, Hernando County tax collector, for 20 years. She became a real estate broker and established her own brokerage office. She was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church. Survivors include a son, Edward S. MacKenzie III, Brooksville; a daughter, Virginia M. Vidal, Homosassa; a sister, Ada Westover, Brooksville; eight grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. Merritt Funeral Home, Brooksville.
PHILLIPS, GEORGE A., 79, of Homosassa, died Sunday (Jan. 19, 2003) in Homosassa. Born in Baltimore, he was a seasonal resident since 1999 from Windsor Mill, Md. He was a retired sheet metal worker for Zellers Inc., Baltimore, and was an Army Air Forces veteran of World War II. His memberships included Nature Coast Community Church, the American Legion Post 122, Baltimore Kickers German Club, Moose Lodge and Sheet Metal Workers Local 100 Retirement Club. DELGADO ABRIL, JULIO, 77, of Spring Hill, died Friday (Jan. 17, 2003) at Hernando-Pasco Hospice, Brooksville. Born in San Juan, Puerto Rico, he came here 15 years ago from New Jersey. He was retired from the New Jersey Department of Corrections, was an Army veteran and a member of the Puerto Rican American Club. He was Catholic. MANZELLA, CARMEN MICHAEL, 78, of Spring Hill, died Thursday (Jan. 16, 2003) at Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point. Born in Buffalo, N.Y., he came here in 1979 from Kenmore, N.Y. He was a salesman with Auto Parts Supply, Brooksville, and was a retired police officer and detective from Kenmore. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was Catholic. PAYNE, FRANCIS, 85, of Spring Hill, died Saturday (Jan. 18, 2003) at Crown Pointe Senior Living Community in Spring Hill. Born in Winston-Salem, N.C., he came here 25 years ago from Roanoke, Va. He was a retired truck driver and a member of the Teamsters Union. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of Northcliffe Baptist Church. WARDNER, ROBERT S., 81, of Spring Hill, formerly of St. Petersburg, died Thursday (Jan. 16, 2003) at James A. Haley VA Medical Center, Tampa. Born in Bloomingdale, N.Y., he came here in 1996 from St. Petersburg. He was a retired lieutenant colonel from the Air Force and served in World War II, the Korean War and Vietnam War. BEASLEY, FANNIE LOU, 95, of Plant City, died Thursday (Jan. 16, 2003). Born in Andalusia, Ala., she moved to the Tampa area in 1950 from Avon Park. She was a homemaker. BUITRON, NINFA M., 76, of Sun City Center, died Saturday (Jan. 18, 2003) at South Bay Hospital. Born in San Benito, Texas, she moved to the Tampa area in 1956. She was a homemaker and was Catholic. COLLIER ELDON E. SR. 80, of Treasure Island, formerly of Tampa, died Saturday (Jan. 18, 2003) at home. He was born in South Dakota and moved to Treasure Island in 1995 from Tampa. He was a manager at Cohen and Stern Inc. in Chicago. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was Methodist. Survivors include a son, Ed, and a daughter, Chris Collier, both of Indian Rocks Beach.
FRASURE, CALVIN HERBERT, 71, of Plant City, died Saturday (Jan. 18, 2003). Born in Bremen, Ohio, he moved to the Tampa area 39 years ago from Dayton, Ohio. He was an Air Force veteran of the Korean War and was past commander of VFW Post 4590. He was retired from Lykes Brothers as a meat cutter. POWELL, STEVEN, 54, of Plant City, died Friday (Jan. 17, 2003). Born in Miami Beach, he was a roofing contractor. ROOT, WYNOGENE MILLER, 84, of Tampa, died Thursday (Jan. 16, 2003). She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Plant City, past president of the Plant City Women's Club, and a member of the Plant City Garden Club. TERRELL, ATHEL "A.C.," 83, of Plant City, died Sunday (Jan. 19, 2003). Born in Hackleburg, Ala., he moved to the Tampa area in 1920 from Michigan. He was a Navy veteran, an electrician, and a member of the IBEW Local 915. He was also a member of Olin S. Wright Masonic Lodge 79 F&AM and was Baptist. He was a retired welder with 30 years of service for International Harvester Co., Melrose Park, Ill. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and a member of First Baptist Church of Holiday. MILITANA, SALVATORE G. "SAL," 93, of New Port Richey, died Sunday (Jan. 19, 2003) at Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point. He was born in Pelham, N.Y. He was a 1933 graduate of the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis. He served as a lieutenant in the Civilian Conservation Corps and later as an ATF investigator. During World War II, he served in Naval Intelligence and served on a submarine in the Atlantic. After the war, he practiced law in Miami and served as a municipal judge. Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Lorrie; a son, Robert, New Port Richey; two daughters, Ann Marie Ellis, Austin, Texas, and Joan Lumley, Potomac, Md.; four grandchildren; and one great-grandson. He was the owner/operator of Vincenti's Meat Market, Plainview, N.Y. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a Jasmine Lakes member of the Civic Association, Shuffleboard Club and the Bingo Committee. He was a member of the Usher Club at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church. - HOMOLAC, ZDENEK G., 77, of Belleair, died Friday (Jan. 17, 2003) at Morton Plant Hospital, Clearwater. He was born in Prague, Czechoslovakia, and came here in 1989 from New York City, where he worked 20 years for the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and retired from the World Trade Center. He was a member of the American Institute of Architects, the Czechoslovakian Culture Center and its choir in St. Petersburg, and the Choir Velehrad at St. Mary Carnation, Astoria, N.Y. He attended St. Cecelia Catholic Church, Clearwater. His hobbies included oil painting, graphic arts, catechism studies at St. Cecelia, reading and traveling. He was born in Lancaster, Ohio, and moved to Old Town three months ago. He was a machinist, a Navy veteran and a member of Lighthouse Word Church, Chiefland. - GRIDLEY, JAMES LEARNED, 83, of Dunedin, died Saturday (Jan. 18, 2003) at home under the care of Hospice of the Florida Suncoast. He came here in 1977 from his native Worcester, Mass. He was a self-employed piano tuner technician. He was an actor, performing in many local community theater productions, and in 1994 received a best actor award for his role as Norman Thayer in On Golden Pond. - KLEIN, PHILIP, 82, of Holiday, formerly of Dunedin, died Friday (Jan. 17, 2003) at home. Born in Sharon, Pa., he moved to Dunedin in 1979 from Poland, Ohio, and to Holiday in 1987. He was a retired District Sales Manager with 30 years of service at Kellogg Sales Company, Youngstown, Ohio. He was an Army veteran of World War II, a former coach and umpire with Poland Ohio Boys Baseball Association and a member of DAV Post 78. He was Methodist. He owned G&H Diner in Binghamton, N.Y. He was an Army veteran of World War II. - GUSTKE, JOHN, 82, of Largo, and Grosse Pointe Woods, Mich., died Saturday (Jan. 18, 2003) at Tampa General Hospital. He was born in Detroit and was a seasonal resident. He was an engineer who worked for Fruehauf Corp. and helped design large trailers, including the transport trailer for the first space shuttle. On weekends, he worked as a professional musician. During World War II, he worked for the Navy as an aviation mechanic stationed at Grosse Ile, Mich., and Hawaii. - BEACHLEY, FRANK A., 91, of Palm Harbor, died Saturday (Jan. 18, 2003) at Manor Care of Palm Harbor. He was born in Middletown, Md., and came here in 1975 from Braddock Heights, Md. He worked as a postmaster for the U.S. Postal Service. He was an Army veteran of World War II and was Protestant.
