Re-enactors converge for the annual Brooksville raid. |
Cover story: Getting the feel of history
The 23rd annual re-enactment of the Civil War's Brooksville raid will have little resemblance to what really happened. The event puts more emphasis on the sights and sounds of life in the 1860s, one re-enactor says.
Other things to do in Hernando
Hernando County has plenty to offer beyond the Brooksville Raid's beating drums and blasting cannons. Here are a few suggestions:
Film: 'The Hours' drags on and on and on
The movie with Meryl Streep, Nicole Kidman and Julianne Moore is an admirable intellectual exercise in filmmaking. And nothing more.
'The Hours' seems like minutes
In this impressive adaptation of the Pulitzer Prize-winning novel, a tight screenplay and superb acting make for a compelling movie.

I've had enough . . .
Fighting in front of the customers. It happened again: I just want a takeout salad, but the cashier and the line cook get into a snarling hassle over who should have bagged the last order. Maybe deli yelling and short-order madness is colorful; arguments and dressing-downs take the focus off customers and spoil our appetites. We won't be back for the rematch.
