  • BAXTER, JUDITH C. "JUDY," 60, of Homosassa, formerly of Inglis, died Thursday (Jan. 16, 2003) at home. Born in Mount Holly, N.J., she came to Inglis in the 1980s from New York and moved to Homosassa in 1996. She owned a tax preparation service. Survivors include her son, David Wilson, Haddon Heights, N.J.; a daughter, Janice Hunt, Haddonfield, N.J.; and two grandchildren. Heinz Funeral Home & Cremation, Inverness.
  • BLANKENBECKLER, JOHN C., 81, of Homosassa, died Tuesday (Jan. 21, 2003) in Crystal River. Born in Adwolf, Va., he came here in 1984 from Front Royal, Va. He was a retired hospital administrator for the Warren Memorial Hospital, Front Royal. He received his master's degree from the Medical College of Virginia. He was an Army Air Forces veteran of World War II and served in England. He was a 32nd degree Mason and past president of United Way. He was a member of Lions Club, Woodcarving Club, Sugarmill Woods Golf & County Club, and First United Methodist Church of Homosassa. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Venia (Taylor); a son, John Blankenbeckler Jr., San Diego; a daughter, Martha Davis, Jacksonville; three grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.   • DURAN, NICHOLAS ROBERT, 43, of Yankeetown, formerly of Hudson, died Tuesday (Jan. 21, 2003) at home under the care of his family and Hospice of Citrus County. Born in Wayne, Mich., he came here two years ago from Hudson. He was a commercial fisherman and attended the New Beginnings Ministry Fellowship.   • HICKMAN, RICHARD HENRY SR., 66, of Lecanto, died Wednesday (Jan. 22, 2003) at Citrus Memorial Hospital, Inverness. Born in Jersey City, N.J., he came here five years ago from Aberdeen, N.J. He was a retired longshoreman for 33 years on the docks of Port Newark and Port Elizabeth. He was a member of the International Long Shoreman's Association Union Local 1809-1 Port Elizabeth. He was an Army veteran in Company A, 506th Airborne Infantry, Hanau, Germany. He was Protestant. Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Heidi; a son, Richard H.   • HOLROYD, ROBERT EDWARD, 77, of Inverness, died Monday (Jan. 20, 2003) at Citrus Memorial Hospital, Inverness. He was born in Kansas City, Mo. He was a retired truck driver and an Army veteran. He was Baptist and attended the Highway 44 Church of God, Inverness. He was a member of the American Legion, East Citrus Senior Citizens Club and the Homosassa Senior Citizens Club.   • McMULLEN, FREDERICK B. JR., 88, of Inglis, died Wednesday (Jan. 22, 2003) in Lecanto. Born in Tampa, he came here in 1977 from Clearwater and was the retired owner of an air conditioning and refrigeration company. He was a member of the Inglis Lions Club and was a 32nd degree Mason of Lodge 324. He was Presbyterian. Survivors include three daughters, Mary Marguerite McMullen, Inglis, Beth Snyder, Lecanto, and Eleanor Patrick, Mobile, Ala.; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.   • NASS, JOHN GEORGE, 76, of Inverness, died Thursday (Jan. 23, 2003) at home under the care of his family and Hospice of Citrus County. Born in Evansville, Ind., he came to Citrus County in 1984 from Hollywood, Fla. He was a construction industry plasterer and an Army veteran. He was a Golden Gloves boxer and won the Indiana state championship in his weight class. Survivors include two sons, Steven, Inverness, and John, Davie; a daughter, Becky West, Coral Springs; 10 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Chas. E.   • TUVELL, NOAH, 19, of Brooksville, died Monday (Jan. 20, 2003) at St. Joseph's Hospital, Tampa as a result of a single car accident in Brooksville. Born in Inverness, he was a lifelong resident of Brooksville. He was a former student of Hernando High School and was an organ donor. He was Christian and attended Istachatta Church of Christ. Survivors include his father, Kelly Tuvell, and his mother, Sharon Blevins, both of Brooksville; a brother, David, Gainesville; two stepbrothers, Nathan and Matthew Mutter, Brooksville; paternal grandfather, Sam Neal Jr., Tampa; maternal grandmother, Lillyan Miyares, Brooksville; and an uncle, Mark Leverett, Tampa. Born in New Providence, Iowa, he came to Citrus County five years ago from St. Petersburg. He was the owner/operator of Vestal Painting & Decorating for over 50 years. He was active with the Florida Bible College Youth Ranch and had served as its president. He was a former member of Grace Bible Church, St. Petersburg, and member First Baptist Church of Dunnellon.   • BARNER, REBECCA FULLER "BECKY," 49, of Tampa, died Tuesday (Jan. 21, 2003) at St. Joseph's Hospital. Born in Florence, Ala., she moved to Tampa 20 years ago. She worked for Aetna Insurance for more than 23 years, and was an executive assistant at Financial Advisory Services of Tampa for the past three years. Survivors include her husband, Robert W. Jr.; a daughter, Caroline Grace Barner, both of Tampa; three sisters, H. Grace Fuller, Newport News, Va., Karen Goodrum Ferree and Lisa Goodrum Brown, both of Eustis; a brother, Don Goodrum, Mesa, Ariz.; and stepmother, Carol Bindon Fuller, Mount Dora.   • BARNES, LEVIAS de ALEXI, 31, of Valrico, died Sunday (Jan. 19, 2003) in Tampa. Born in Pahokee, he moved to the Tampa area in 1987. He was a driver for Rooms to Go, he was a graduate of Bloomingdale High School and attended Bethune-Cookman College. He finished in second place in the Bloomingdale Body Building Championships in 1989.   • FLORA, ROBERT E., 72, of South Pasadena, formerly of Tampa, died Tuesday (Jan. 21, 2003) at the VA Medical Center at Bay Pines. Born in Roanoke, Va., he moved to South Pasadena three years ago from Tampa. He was a U.S. Air Force master sergeant, serving in Korea and Vietnam and receiving 15 medals. He was a member of the Noncommissioned Officers Club at MacDill Air Force Base. Survivors include his wife of 45 years, Edith M.; two sons, Robert E.   • HARRIS, NORMAN A. SR., 77, of Brandon, died Wednesday (Jan. 22, 2003). Born in Asheville, N.C., he moved to the Tampa area in 1970. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II, president of the Western North Carolina Athletic Conference, a teacher and coach at Gardner-Webb University from 1949 to 1969, where he was the head baseball, basketball and football coach. He was a retired advertising manager for Sears Roebuck & Co. and owned the Charbo Inn, Walled Lake. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of the VFW. He played professional baseball with the New York Giants organization during the 1940s and '50s. He was Episcopalian.
