  • FOUGHT, MARY M., 97, of Lecanto, died Tuesday (Feb. 11, 2003) in Lecanto. She was born in Jamestown, Pa. She was a homemaker and member Church of the Brethren. Survivors include a step-daughter, Mildred Wooten, Lecanto; four grandsons and a granddaughter; and a step-granddaughter. Wilder Funeral Home, Homosassa Springs.
  • LEBERT, ROBERT G., 70, of Inverness, died Tuesday (Feb. 11, 2003) in Orlando. Born in Greenfield, Mass., he came here in 1996 from Medway, Mass. He was a television and radio repair technician and was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a life member VFW Post 417, was a member of DAV, Elks and Korean War Veterans of Citrus County, and was a service officer of VFW and DAV. He was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church. Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Phyllis Dionne; a son, Philip, Homosassa; three daughters, Robin Eddins, Groveland, Deborah Flaherty, Inverness, and Christine Dwyer, Billerica, Mass.; two brothers, Thomas A., Billings, Mont., and Albert H., Greenfield, Mass.; and six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.   • MARKEY, DAVID S., 65, of Citrus Springs, died Tuesday (Feb. 11, 2003) at home under the care of his wife and Hospice of Citrus County. Born in Worcester, Mass., he came here in 1993 from Murrells Inlet, S.C. He was an Air Force veteran. He joined the Central Intelligence Agency and served in 56 countries during his 26-year career. He was the recipient of the Career Intelligence Medal. He later founded Consultants International, which he operated for 15 years. He was a member of the Sons of the American Legion. He was Baptist. Survivors include his wife of 42 years, Dorothy; a daughter, Cheryl Anne Focke, Charlotte, N.C.; two sons, William G.W., Birmingham, Ala., and Daniel P., Charlotte, N.C.; two brothers, Donald, Millbury, Mass., and George, Worcester, Mass.; several nieces and nephews; and five grandchildren.   • McDONALD, HOWARD LEROY, 89, of Inverness, formerly of Tampa, died Wednesday (Feb. 12, 2003) at home. Born in Calhoun, Ga., he came to Inverness in 1996 from Tampa, where he was a 20-year resident. He was a retired machinist and a member of Toastmasters of Indianapolis and Inverness Church of Christ. Survivors include two sons, Norman C., Tampa, and David K., Inverness; two sisters, Jewell Johnson, Martinez, Ga., and Mildred Youngblood, Chattanooga, Tenn.; three grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. She was a retired licensed practical nurse and was a WAVE Navy veteran of World War II. She was Presbyterian. She was a retired solicitor for New England Telephone and was a former deputy sheriff. She was a Coast Guard veteran of World War II.   • PACETTI, MILDRED T., 97, of Spring Hill, died Sunday (Feb. 9, 2003) at home. She moved to Miami in 1923 from her native Columbus, Ohio, then in 1990 moved to Spring Hill. She was a retired secretary with the U.S. Postal Service for over 40 years of service.   • TEELE, LILLIAN L., 81, of Brooksville, died Thursday (Feb. 13, 2003) at Heron Point Health of Brooksville. Born in Cullman, Ala., she came here 37 years ago from South Bay. She retired from the cafeteria service of the Hernando County Public Schools and was a member of Back to the Faith Church of Brooksville. Survivors include two sons, Rick and Jack, and a daughter, Jean James, all of Brooksville; two sisters, Clara Jones, Cullman, and Dura Faye McManus, Interlachen; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.   • WHITMAN, LEROY H., 81, of Spring Hill, died Tuesday (Feb. 11, 2003) at Spring Hill Regional Hospital. Born in Freehold, N.J., he came here 18 years ago from Secaucus, N.J. He was a retired truck driver after 32 years and a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a volunteer firefighter with the Secaucus Fire Department for over 30 years. He was a Fourth Degree Knight of Columbus and a member of St. Joan of Arc Church.   • DERY, MILAN A. SR. "SLIM," of Tampa, died Thursday (Feb. 6, 2003). Born in Pennsylvania, he moved to Tampa as a child. He worked at the Tampa Daily Times as a photo engraver during World War II, worked as a florist salesman and in 1967 he founded Milan Dery Wholesale Florist. Survivors include six children, Barbara Dery Ward, Richard D., Milan A.   • HOUSTON, MARK H., 81, of Sun City Center, died Friday (Feb. 7, 2003). Born in Wheeling, W.Va., he moved to the Tampa area several years ago. He was a U.S. Army Air Corps veteran of World War II and a retired pilot for Consolidated Natural Gas, Clarksburg, W.Va. He was a member of the Lions Club and the Quiet Bird Men B-17 Organization.   • JONES STRICKLAND, ANTOINETTE DARI, 42, of Brandon, died Monday (Feb. 10, 2003). Born in Boston, she moved to the Tampa area 15 years ago. She attended Morgan State University in Baltimore and was employed as a senior accounts receivable analyst at America II Corp., St. Petersburg for 10 years. She was a den mother and committee member for Boy Scouts Troop 261 of St. Petersburg for seven years. He retired as a machinist at Pratt and Whitney Aircraft. He was an Army veteran of World War II and served in the 745th Tank Battalion. He received a Purple Heart. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Effie (Schirmer); three sons, William H., Manchester, Conn., and Henry C.     • SEOG, JOSEPH V. "VINCE," 83, a winter resident of Clearwater, died Wednesday (Feb. 12, 2003) at home under the care of Hospice of the Florida Suncoast. He was born in Snow Shoe, Pa., and was a winter visitor since 1983 from Livonia, Mich., where he retired after 40 years as an operating engineer for Sinacola Contract Co. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of the American Legion and Local 324, both of Livonia. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Dorothy B.; four sons, Bill, Ann Arbor, Mich., and Greg, Mark and Bruce, all of Livonia; two daughters, Donna Clayton, New Bern, N.C., and Lori Seog, Concord, N.H.; five grandchildren; and a great-grandson.     • CLIFFORD, BENJAMIN H., 92, of Dunedin, died Wednesday (Feb. 12, 2003) at home. He came here in 1912 from his native New Bedford, Mass. He worked as a construction firefighter at the VA Medical Center at Bay Pines. He was a Navy Seabees veteran of World War II, helped construct Quonset Naval Base at Quonset Point, R.I., and received a Purple Heart. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Dunedin. Survivors include two daughters, Cherie P. Crawford and Rossan Clifford, both of Dunedin; two sons, Kerry James Clifford, Palm Harbor, and Paul Delamaire, Theodore, Ala.; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren. She was born in New Brunswick, N.J., and lived in Dunedin throughout her childhood, and came here from Elkhart, Ind. She was a social worker and housemother at Case Institute, Cleveland. She was also a writer. She graduated from Northwestern University. She attended Trinity United Methodist Church and was former director of Woodlawn Nature Center, a volunteer at the Midwest Museum of Art and a member of Daughters of the American Revolution, all in Elkhart. He was president of Miller Marina of Cape Coral and was a Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of Unity Church of Palm Harbor. He also worked as a sales representative for McKinley Liquors, Buffalo. He worked eight years for First Baptist Church of Largo.     • NELAN, MARY ELIZABETH WOODWORTH, 93, of Palm Harbor, died Thursday (Feb. 13, 2003) at home under the care of Hospice of the Florida Suncoast. She was born in Wilkensburg, Pa., and came here in 1978 from Washington, Pa. She was a high school teacher for 37 years and taught in the Connellsville and Wilkensburg School systems. She graduated from Chatham College, Pittsburgh, and Carnegie Nellon, earned a master's degree at the University of Pittsburgh and also studied at the University of Geneva in Switzerland. She was a member of the Carnegie Society, the Hamerschlag Heritage Society and Warner Legacy. She was an active member of Alpha Delta Kappa and Delta Pi Epsilon, the Pittsburgh College Club, the American Association of University Women and the Tuesday Musicale Club of Pittsburgh. Locally she was a member of Palm Harbor United Methodist Church, the Palm Harbor Newcomers Alumnae, a charter member of Women's Club of Highland Lakes, and active in the Highland Lakes Southern Club, Swim Club and Yacht Club. A world traveler since childhood, she went on 180 cruises and visited all the continents as well as all of the United States. Survivors include a nephew, Jack Nelan, Pittsburgh.     • LAY, J. HOWARD SR., 67, of Indian Rocks Beach, died Sunday (Feb. 9, 2003) at Sun Coast Hospital. Born in Lone Mountain, Tenn., he came here in 1959 from Knoxville, Tenn. He retired as a phone technician for GTE after 32 years. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Indian Rocks. He was an Army veteran and a member of Gulf Beach Lodge 291 F&AM in Madeira Beach and Egypt Shrine Temple and Scottish Rite, both in Tampa. He was a charter member of VFW Post 10094 in Indian Rocks Beach. He enjoyed wood crafting, specializing in wood barrel pens, and genealogy. He was a two-term city commissioner of Indian Rocks Beach from 1966 to 1970 and was mayor from 1970 to 1972. Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Joanne Griffin-Lay; a son, James H.     • MUDD, JERRY HALSTEAD, 56, of Pinellas Park, died Tuesday (Feb. 11, 2003) at home in a suicide. Born in Seth, W.Va., he came here in 1986 from Princeton, W.Va. He was Pinellas Park's city manager since 1997. As the city's public works administrator, he was instrumental in building the city's reclaimed water system. Before working for the city, he was an engineer and project manager for J.O. Lively Manufacturing and Equipment Co. in Kanawha County, W.Va. He was president of the Pinellas Park Kiwanis Club and a member of the Knights of Columbus Father Lopez Council 5737 in Pinellas Park, the International City Managers Association and the Pinellas County City Manager Consortium. He was a member of the board of directors of the Pinellas Park Corps of the Salvation Army and was a lector at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Pinellas Park. He receive a bachelor of science degree in civil engineering from the West Virginia Institute of Technology and was an alumnus of the University of South Florida Executive Fellows Leadership Program. Survivors include his wife, Ethel; a son, John, Pinellas Park; a stepson, J. He also was a long-distance truck driver for Schwend Trucking Co. in Dade City and Coch Trucking in Sabetha, Kan. Locally, he was a member of Southside Tabernacle Church, where he served as the Boy Scout leader, youth activity assistant and was a member of the coed Sunday class. He was an Army drill sergeant during the Vietnam and the Persian Gulf wars, retiring after 20 years.
