  • SHAGOVAC, RITA CHARMAINE, 58, of Dunnellon, died Sunday (Feb. 16, 2003) at Seven Rivers Community Hospital, Crystal River. Born in Kannapolis, N.C., she came here over 18 months ago from Levittown, Pa. and was a retired factory worker. She was Lutheran. Survivors include two sons, Joe Miller, Philadelphia, and Ronnie Shagovac, Southampton, Pa.; three daughters, Dodi Finer, Edgewater Park, N.J., Tina Crossan, Dunnellon, and Tammy Steele, Lakeland; a brother, Luther C.   • SHIVELY, the REV. ROGER F., 88, of Homosassa, formerly fo Tampa, died Friday (Feb. 14, 2003) in Lecanto. Born in Denver, Ind., he came here in 1974 from Tampa. He was the former pastor of First United Methodist Church of Homosassa. He became a minister in 1958 and served as pastor at the Seminole United Methodist Church of Tampa. He was one of the founders of Citrus United Basket, and was an honorary life member of Homosassa Chamber of Commerce. He was a member of Stage Stand Cemetery Association, past president and honorary member of Homosassa Civic Association, past president of the Minister Association and charter president and member of Crystal River Rotary Club. He was also a charter member of Homosassa Rotary Club and a member of Springs Masonic Lodge Homosassa Springs.   • SMITH, VIVIAN L., 62, of Homosassa, died Saturday (Feb. 15, 2003) at Citrus Memorial Hospital, Inverness. Born in Macon, Ga., she came here 12 years ago from Hollywood, Fla. She was a homemaker. Survivors include two sons, David B., Sebastian, and John, Ocala; two daughters, Jacquelyn K. Smith, Homosassa, and Kimberly Hamilton, Lecanto; her mother, Bertha Bennefield, Homosassa; a sister, Billie Huffmaster, Macon; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.   • VAN VLACK, CONNIE, 66, of Homosassa, formerly of New Port Richey, died Thursday (Feb. 13, 2003) at home under the care of her family and Hospice of Citrus County. Born in Flint, Mich., she moved to Homosassa in 1980 from New Port Richey, where she had lived since 1966. She was charter president of the New Port Richey Jayceettes and director for the local branch of the Salvation Army. She was listed in the 1969 edition of Community Leaders of America and was a local Girl Scout leader. She was valedictorian of the first graduating class at Pasco-Hernando Community College with an associate's degree in accounting. She obtained her bachelor's and master's degrees in education from the University of South Florida. She completed the program for professional educators in 1999 and started teaching at Crystal River Middle School. Survivors include her husband of 39 years, Bruce L.; a daughter, Sheila Fort, High Springs; two brothers, Herb Becker, Nancy, Ky., and Emil Becker, Pennsylvania; two grandchildren; her caregiver and daughter-in-law, Lynne Becker.   • ZILM, STEWART, 83, of Crystal River, died Sunday (Feb. 16, 2003) at home. Born in Niagara Falls, N.Y., he came here 14 years ago from Sanborn, N.Y. He was a retired cook for the Nabisco Co. and was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Rock Crusher First Church of God. She came here 20 years ago from her native Clearwater and was a homemaker. She was Baptist.   • YOUNG, FLOYD EARL, 47, of Brooksville, died Saturday (Feb. 15, 2003) at Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point. Born in Ybor City, he came here in 1981 from Houston. Prior to becoming disabled, he worked for Florida Crushed Stone. He was involved in community work, especially to underprivileged school children. He was named Volunteer of the Year in 2001 by the Hernando County Schools. He was president of the PTA and on the School Advisory Committee at Brooksville Elementary School. He was a former governor of Moose Lodge 1676, and a member of Moose Legion Cypress 202 and Eagles Zephyrhills. He was a Navy veteran and worked for National/Pan Am Airlines for 24 years, and with Ewell Industries for 12 years. He was retired with 17 years of service as a construction repairman for Innisbrook Resort and was an Army veteran serving from 1946-1948.     • FLETCHER, LORRAINE L., 88, of Largo, formerly of Seminole and Passe-a-Grille Beach, died Saturday (Feb. 15, 2003) at Largo Medical Center. Born in Worcester, Mass., she came to Pass-a-Grille Beach in 1949, moved to Fort Lauderdale in 1953, to Seminole in 1959 and to Largo in 1964. She graduated from Framingham State Teachers College in Massachusetts and worked in retail and banking for several years before becoming a teacher. During World War II, she served with the American Red Cross in Anchorage, Alaska. While living on the beach, she taught in St. Petersburg schools and worked at the snack bar of the Pass-a-Grille Beach Hotel. She taught school in Fort Lauderdale and after returning to Pinellas County she taught at Orange Grove Elementary in Seminole and was transferred in 1963 to Largo Central Elementary School, where she taught until she retired in 1981 after 41 years as a teacher. She was an accomplished tennis player and a horsewoman. She was a volunteer for the SPCA and a member of the Florida and the North Pinellas retired educators associations.     • NUTTING, GRACE E., 91, of Seminole, died Friday (Feb. 14, 2003) at Pasadena Manor. Born in Silver Springs, Ark., she came here in 1968 from Washington, D.C. She was a bookkeeper and a member of Oakhurst United Methodist Church. Survivors include a nephew, Ronald Martin, Hurst, Texas. National Cremation Society, St. Petersburg.
    • ROBERTS, GEORGE WILLIAM, 85, of Seminole, died Friday (Feb. 14, 2003) at Tierra Pines Healthcare. A St. Petersburg native, he was a 1936 graduate of St. Petersburg High School. He owned a plumbing business with his father. He was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was active in many bowling leagues, many of them at Ten Pins Lane in South Pasadena. Survivors include his wife of 30 years, Ruby; two sons, Richard, St. Marys, Ga., and Percy, Pinellas Park; a stepson, Vance Perky; two daughters, June Gregory, Tampa, and Ruth Louise Falkenberry, Kingston, Ga.; three stepdaughters, Teresa Lanes, Largo, June Ogle, Treasure Island, and Brenda Dye, Knoxville, Tenn.; a brother, Albert, St. Petersburg; a sister, Charlotte Merrell, Pinellas Park; 15 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.     • WARNIMENT, MILDRED C. "MICKEY," 75, of Seminole, formerly of St. Petersburg, died Saturday (Feb. 15, 2003) at Palms of Pasadena Hospital, South Pasadena. Born in Fort Jennings, Ohio, she came here in 1958 from Jessup, Ga. She was a retired licensed practical nurse at Palms of Pasadena Hospital for 30 years. She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church. Survivors include three daughters, Sharon Rose Rogers and Cynthia Marie Phillips, both of Largo, and Catherine Ann Diemer, Ottawa, Ohio; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. R.     • HIXON, WILLIAM J., 83, of South Pasadena, died Saturday (Feb. 15, 2003) at Palms of Pasadena Hospital. Born in Gary, Ind., he came here in 1979 from Glenview, Ill. He retired as the director of Evanston Northshore Health Department in Illinois. He was a member of Disston Avenue Church of Christ. He was an Army veteran of World War II and was a 1950 graduate of the University of Indiana. Survivors include his wife, Corinne; a son, Fred, Phoenix; a sister, Sandy Ditsler, St. Petersburg; and two grandchildren. R.     • WHITMAN, GLENWOOD A., 84, of South Pasadena, died Saturday (Feb. 15, 2003) at Palms of Pasadena Hospital. He was born in Honey Grove, Pa. and came here in 1981 from Altoona, Pa. He was an Army Air Forces veteran of World War II. He retired from the Conrail Locomotive Shop in 1980 after 43 years of railroad service. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Viola D.; two sons, Glenn C., St. Petersburg, and Larry, Tyrone, Pa.; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. Beach Memorial Chapel, St. Pete Beach.
