COLLIER, IRENE, 90, of Homosassa, died Friday (Feb. 21, 2003) at Cypress Cove Care Center. Born in North Carolina, she came here 30 years ago from Lancaster, Pa. She was a retired inspector for Hamilton Watch Co. and Baptist. Survivors include a daughter, Doris Holbrook, Crystal River; a sister, Uella Murphy, Rising Son, Md.; six grandchildren; and numerous great and great-great grandchildren. DUMAYNE, FLORENCE, 92, of Citrus Springs, died Friday (Feb. 21, 2003) at Cottages of Gentle Breeze, Citrus Springs. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she came here in 1956 from Long Beach, Calif. She enjoyed music, cooking, and debating current issues. She was Christian Scientist. Survivors include several nieces and nephews, including Rich Cloonan, Beverly Hills. DUNCAN, TIMOTHY C., 47, of Tampa, formerly of Homosassa, died Thursday (Feb. 20, 2003) at home. Born in Los Angeles, he was a retired Army staff sergeant and a practicing magician. He was a member of International Brotherhood of Magicians and Christian Progression Center Church of Homosassa. Survivors include his wife of 19 years, Sharon; two daughters, Melanie Jacobs, Seneca, S.C., and Rose Shababy, Coeur d'Alene, Idaho; three brothers, Patrick, Santa Monica, Calif., Dan, Holland, Mich., and Tom, Zeeland, Mich.; six sisters, Peggy Duncan, Greenville, S.C., Robin Wentzel-Dams, and Laurel Boullosa, both of Holland, Luann Lycznski, Hamilton, Mich., Shannon Banks, Boise, Idaho, and Cheri Duncan, Cathedral City, Colo.; three grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. CARPENTER, WALTER HENRY, of Riverview, died Saturday (Feb. 22, 2003). A native of North Augusta, S.C., he had resided here since 1959. He was a U.S. Army Air Forces World War II veteran and founded Carpenter Machine & Supply, now called Turbo Marine Corp. He pioneered refrigeration of shrimp boats and developed several patents for ice machines. LYNCH, ALFRED JOSEPH, 85, of Plant City, died Friday (Feb. 21, 2003). He was a member of St. Clement Catholic Church, West Seneca Social Club in New York for 60 years, Knights of Columbus and he volunteered many years at the Strawberry Festival. He was a steel worker. Survivors include his wife, Alice; two daughters Sharlene A. Spandau, Plant City, and Maureen A. Brown, Ontario, Canada; two sons Alfred J. Lynch, Ruskin, and Terry P. PUTNAL, MICHAEL DAVID, 51, of Seffner, died Thursday (Feb. 20, 2003). He lived most of his life in the Tampa area. He was a Hillsborough County surveyor for 20 years and a veteran. VINSON, JOHN T. "HOMEBOY" SR., 84, of Tampa, died Friday (Feb. 21, 2003). He was a member of Northgate Baptist Church and a veteran of World War II. He retired from TECO after 38 years. He was a member of IBEW Local Union 108, A.W. Windhorst Lodge 185, 32nd-degree Mason F&AM, and a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 424. WATKINS, CASSIE, 97, of Plant City, died Friday (Feb. 21, 2003). She came here from Alma, Ga., in 1977. She was a homemaker and member of Ahava Baptist Church. CRAM, CLAYTON C., 73, of Zephyrhills, died Friday (Feb. 21, 2003) at home. Born in Albert Lea, Minn., he came here eight years ago from Chatfield, Minn. He was an executive secretary, a Navy veteran of the Korean War, an avid golfer and Lutheran. He was a member of Professional Insurance Association and Mason-Scottish Rite Osman Shaine Chapel, both of Minnesota. GANGI, ORLANDO J., 71, of Port Richey, died Saturday (Feb. 22, 2003) at Hospice House Gulfside, New Port Richey. Born in Boston, he came here in 1996 from College Point, N.Y. He was a tractor-trailer driver for Teamster Local 295, Staten Island, N.Y., an Army veteran of the Korean War and Catholic. HAGMEYER, EUGENE KENNETH, 72, of New Port Richey, died Saturday (Feb. 22, 2003) at Morton Plant North Bay Hospital, New Port Richey. Born in Jamaica, N.Y., he came here in 1980 from Long Island, N.Y. He was a retired detective with New York State-Suffolk County Police, an Army veteran of the Korean War and Lutheran. He was a member of Benevolent Protective Order of the Elks Lodge 2284, American Legion Veterans Village Port 343 and Grand Valley homeowners association. MANNELLI, MICHAEL A., 75, of New Port Richey, died Friday (Feb. 21, 2003) at home. He came here in 1981 from his native Chicago. PHILLIPS, WILLIAM E., 83, of New Port Richey, died Saturday (Feb. 22, 2003) at West Pasco Care Center, New Port Richey. Born in Covert, Mich., he came here in 1976 from Hammond, Ind. He worked in fire and safety for Atlantic Riehfield Co., Indiana, was an Army veteran and a member of Peace Lutheran Church. SWIECICKI, THERESA MARIA, 76, of Port Richey, died Saturday (Feb. 22, 2003) at Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point. Born in Jersey City, N.J., she came here three years ago from Cliffside Park, N.J. She was a supervisor for Metro Glass Co., Jersey City, and Catholic. - SANDERSON, PRESTON R., 58, of Belleair Beach, died Saturday (Feb. 22, 2003) at Hospice House Woodside, Pinellas Park. He came here in 1957 from his native Miami. He was a certified public accountant. He served in the Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He was Baptist. - BARRICK, RAY J., 67, of Clearwater and formerly of Gulfport, died Friday (Feb. 21, 2003) at Largo Medical Center under the care of Hospice of the Florida Suncoast. He was born in Newville, Pa., and came here in 1971 from Dillsburg, Pa., where he worked for Food Fair Stores for 17 years. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. Locally, he worked for Pantry Pride, Val Pak and Pasadena Baptist Church, where he also was a member. He was a member of New Zion Missionary Baptist Church, Clearwater, a volunteer at UPARC and a member of the Clearwater Amateur Radio Club. She was born in McKeesport, Pa., came to St. Petersburg in 1965 from New Jersey and moved to Clearwater in 1975. She was a member of Suncoast Bible Presbyterian Church and a former member of Central Bible Church, St. Petersburg. She was active in the Women's Fellowship of Clearwater Christian College and Largo Seminole Women's Bible Study. Survivors include her husband of 59 years, Arthur E. - BACON, JOYCE PAULINE, 69, of Largo, died Friday (Feb. 21, 2003) at home under the care of Hospice of the Florida Suncoast. She came here in 1996 from her native Crystal Lake, Ill., where she owned and operated the Pantry Restaurant. She was past president of the Ladies Golf Association of Palm Hill Country Club, Largo, and a member of the Calcutta Cuties women's golf group. Survivors include three daughters, Kristine DeCant, Scottsdale, Ariz., Terri Bacon Adkins, North Riverside, Ill., and Janis Bacon Petzel, Hallowell, Maine; two brothers, Earl Humphrey and Glenn Humphrey, both of Verona, Pa.; six grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter. - FLETCHER, LORRAINE L., 88, of Largo, died Wednesday (Jan. 15, 2003) at Largo Medical Center. Born in Worcester, Mass., she came to Pass-a-Grille Beach in 1949, moved to Fort Lauderdale in 1953, to Seminole in 1959, and to Largo in 1964. She graduated from Framingham State Teachers College in Massachusetts and worked in retail and banking for several years before becoming a teacher. During World War II, she served with the American Red Cross in Anchorage, Alaska. While living on Pass-a-Grille Beach, she taught in St. Petersburg schools and worked at the snack bar of the Pass-a-Grille Beach Hotel. She taught school in Fort Lauderdale and after returning to Pinellas County she taught at Orange Grove Elementary, Seminole, and was transferred in 1963 to Largo Central Elementary School where she taught until she retired in 1981 after 41 years. She was an accomplished tennis player and a horsewoman. She was a volunteer for the SPCA and a member of the Florida and the North Pinellas Retired Educators Associations. - HOYT, GREGORY GENE, 45, of Largo, died Thursday (Feb. 20, 2003) at Morton Plant Hospital, Clearwater. He was born in Waterbury, Conn., and came here in 1988 from Connecticut. He owned and operated a pool service and enjoyed gardening and stamp collecting. Survivors include a daughter, Judy Hoyt, Wolcott, Conn.; his parents, Patricia Brazicki and Dale Hoyt, both of Waterbury; two brothers, Jeffrey, Largo, and Douglas W. - RECKERT, WALTER W. SR., 91, of Largo, died Friday (Feb. 21, 2003) at Palm Garden of Pinellas. He was born in New Britain, Conn., and came here in 1974 from Plainville, Conn. He retired after 45 years as a production supervisor for Stanley Works Tool & Dye. He was a member of Rogate Lutheran Church, Clearwater, and a board member for the Salvation Army in New Britain. He was a retired Air Force master sergeant, serving in the Korean and Vietnam wars. He was a professor at the University of Kentucky. He also was a writer and award-winning photographer. He was an adviser to President Lyndon Johnson on the Rural Poverty Commission. He was a co-owner of the Prospector Co. of St. Pete Beach. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War and a past commander of American Legion Post 305, St. Pete Beach. She was a retired domestic worker. She was a member of the Sunshine Court of Calanthe 105, Lilly Lodge and Mount Zion Progressive Missionary Baptist Church, where she sang with the choir, was a member of the Senior Mission and was a Sunday school teacher. - GILE, JAMES EDWIN SR., 80, of St. Petersburg, died Friday (Feb. 21, 2003) at home. He was born in South Portland, Maine, and came here in 1924. He owned and operated Gile Optical Corp. from 1964 to 1980. He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of VFW Post 6827 in St. Petersburg. He was a 50-year member of Child's Park United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Kathleen Marie; a daughter, Pamela Sue Peacock, Pinellas Park; a son, James E. - HAWKINS, STEVE, 79, of Port Richey, formerly St. Petersburg, died Friday (Feb. 21, 2003) at North Bay Hospital. He came to Florida in 1942 from his native Earlington, Ky. He was an Army and Coast Guard veteran of World War II. He was a private pilot and later worked as a night auditor for Days Inn in Port Richey and Clearwater. - KEYSER, KATHRYN E., 81, of St. Petersburg, died Saturday (Feb. 22, 2003). She was born in Meyersdale, Pa., and came here in 1973 from Johnstown, Pa. - STEELE, DOLORES E., 79, of Clearwater, formerly of St. Petersburg, died Friday (Feb. 21, 2003) at Morton Plant Hospital, Clearwater. Born in McKeesport, Pa., she came to St. Petersburg in 1965 from New Jersey and moved to Clearwater in 1975. She was a member of Suncoast Bible Presbyterian Church. She was active in the Women's Fellowship of Clearwater Christian College and Largo Seminole Women's Bible Study.
