ARBOGAST, PEARLIE L., 90, of Brooksville, formerly of Tampa, died Tuesday (Feb. 25, 2003) at Spring Hill Health Center. Born in Manatee County, she came here 35 years ago from Tampa. She was a homemaker and a member of the First Baptist Church of Garden Grove. Survivors include two sons, Howard Connell, Brooksville, and Darwin Connell, Floral City; a daughter, Annie L. Taylor, Brooksville; two brothers, Bob Taylor, Land O'Lakes, and Tony Taylor, Tampa; two sisters, Bea Taylor and Helen Miller, both of Lutz; nine grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren. BARKER, CLARENCE S., 90, of Inverness, died Tuesday (Feb. 25, 2003) at home under the care of his family and Hospice of Citrus County. Born in Cross, Mich., he came here in 1958 from Milwaukee. He was a retired painter and was an Army veteran of World War II. He attended the First Assembly of God Church of Inverness, where he served in the Men's Ministry. BAUM, JOHN JOSEPH, 76, of Inverness, died Tuesday (Feb. 25, 2003) at home under the care of his family and Hospice of Citrus County. Born in Valley Stream, N.Y., he came here in 1978 from Massapequa, N.Y. He was a retired sheet metal worker and a member of the Sheet Metal Workers Union Local 28. He was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Inverness. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Georgia (Beck): four sons, John, Smithtown, N.Y., and Robert and Stephen, both of Inverness, and Scott, Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y.; a daughter, Nancy Urgola, Medford, N.Y.; a brother, Robert, Smithtown; a sister, Edna Dunekack, Virginia Beach, Va.; 10 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. BURNSIDE, JAMES A., 79, of Inverness, died Monday (Feb. 24, 2003) in Lecanto. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he moved to Winter Park in 1973 from Levittown, Pa., then moved to Inverness in 1986. He was a steam fitter and a member of the Steam Fitters Union Local 638 New York. He was instrumental in the construction of the World Trade Center towers. He served in the Army 5th Division in World War II at the Battle of the Bulge. He was a staff sergeant in the Air Force and a reservist in the Seebees. He was a member of the Inverness VFW Post 4337 and Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Clare; four daughters, Regina Peyer, Deltona, Maureen Norman, Winter Park, Mary Oliver, Debary, and Marilyn Burnside-Woodruff, Inverness; a sister, Mary De Vito, Smallwood, N.Y.; and four grandchildren. CAVANAUGH, JOSEPH JOHN, 65, of Inverness, died Tuesday (Feb. 25, 2003) in Inverness. Born in Buffalo, N.Y., he was a winter resident here from Irving, N.Y. He was a conductor for the CSX Railroad and was an Air Force veteran. He was Protestant. Survivors include his wife, Carol Annette (Karalus); four sons, David, Angola, N.Y., Joseph, Elma, N.Y., Robert, Williamsville, N.Y., and Daniel, Lake Panasoffkee; a brother, John Reczek, Cheektowaga, N.Y.; and six grandchildren. ERNST, ELVIE A., 70, of Crystal River, died Tuesday (Feb. 24, 2003) at home. Born in Arcadia, she came to this area 24 years ago from Fort Myers. JONES, FLORENCE, 92, of Beverly Hills, died Monday (Feb. 24, 2003) in Inverness. Born in Corinth, Ky., she came here 22 years ago from Brooklyn, Ohio. MONTAG, LEAH JOYCE, 74, of Floral City, died Tuesday (Feb. 25, 2003) at home. Born in Mars, Pa., she came here 15 years ago from Cabot, Pa. HOBBS, WILLIAM S., 81, of Spring Hill, died Monday (Feb. 24, 2003) at Spring Hill Regional Hospital. He came to this area 21 years ago from his native Suffolk, Va. He was a retired dry cleaning business owner/operator. He was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II and the Korean War. Survivors include his wife, Marilyn; two brothers, James, Richmond, Va., and G.S. Hobbs, Suffolk; and two sisters, Antoinette James, Richmond, Va., and Mary Draper, Sarasota. SWINEHART, BEN A., 28, of Newark, Del., formerly of Brooksville, died Saturday (Feb. 22, 2003) in Delaware. Born in Lakeland, he was a construction worker who lived in Florida for 26 years before moving to Delaware. He was Methodist. MODLIN, GAIL A., 66, of Tampa, died Tuesday (Feb. 25, 2003). Born in Lake Como, she moved to the Tampa area several years ago. She was a retired editor from Glencoe McGraw-Hill Book Co. and a retired teacher for the Hillsborough County School District. Survivors include three daughters Donna Hill, Susan and Lynn Modlin; sister, Betty Enos, Texas; and three grandchildren, Rachel and Jeremiah Hill and Courtney Modlin. PEREZ, NENA A., 83, of Tampa, died Tuesday (Feb. 25, 2003). A native and lifelong resident of Tampa, she was a travel agent and meter maid for many years. SULLIVAN, ARNOLD, 70, of Thonotosassa, died Sunday (Feb. 23, 2003) in Tampa. A native of the Tampa area, he was a graduate of Middleton High School and Florida A&M University. He was a head football coach at Lincoln High School, Tallahassee, health and physical education teacher at Booker T. Washington Jr. High School, football coach and driver's education teacher at Middleton High School and Chamberlain High School, retiring in 1990. He was the recipient of numerous honors and awards, including Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities and Coach of the Year of the Big 9 North Florida Conference. He was inducted into the FAMU Hall of Fame in 1995. He was a member of the National Rattler's "F" Club, West Coast Rattlers Booster Club, the American Legion and the Thonotosassa, Seffner, Mango Civic Association. Survivors include his wife of 47 years, Minnie; a son, Alden Sullivan; a brother, Perry Sullivan II; two sisters, Levo Oliver and Altamese Culver; three grandchildren, Andre, Terrence and Marinita; and two great-grandchildren, Darius and Devin. WINCEK, STANLEY D., 62, of Odessa, formerly of Safety Harbor and Clearwater, died Sunday (Feb. 23, 2003) at Shands at the University of Florida. Born in Massillon, Ohio, he moved to Clearwater in 1963. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War and was the owner of Aluminum Solutions and general manager of Capital Aluminum, both of Winter Haven. He was a member of Espiritu Santo Catholic Church, Safety Harbor. She was a clerk of the court for Nassau County, N.Y. She was a member of the Timber Oaks Golf Club and its bridge club. She was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church. HUBBELL, ALAN B., 63, of Port Richey, died Sunday (Feb. 23, 2003) at Hernando-Pasco Hospice, New Port Richey. Born in Pontiac, Mich., he came here in 1983 from Waterford, Mich. He was a Marine Corps veteran and member of VFW Post 4412. He was a volunteer firefighter with the Waterford Fire Department and a member of Praise Assembly of God Church. MARTIN, JESSIE, 91, of Port Richey, died Tuesday (Feb. 25, 2003) at Bayonet Point Health Center. Born in Talladega, Ala., she came here in 1998 from Las Vegas. She retired from Macy's Department Store, New York City, and was a member of Gulfview Grace Brethren Church of Port Richey. ODGAARD, ROSA H., 81, of Holiday, died Tuesday (Feb. 25, 2003) at Shady Pines ALF in New Port Richey. Born in Germany, she came here 28 years ago from Beacon, N.Y. PFAFFE, JOSEPH W. "JOE," 75, of Hudson, died Tuesday (Feb. 25, 2003) at home. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he was a 13-year winter resident from Bay Shore, N.Y. He was a retired milkman for Borden's Milk & Cream Co., Queens, N.Y. with 35 years of service. He was a member of Teamsters Union Local 584, New York City, and an Army veteran of World War II. Survivors include his wife, Mary; two sons, Joseph Ward Pfaffe III and Larry J., both of Bay Shore; two daughters, Susan P. He was a sheet metal worker with Seagel Heat & Air Conditioning, Detroit, and was a Navy veteran of World War II. He was Catholic. She was a homemaker and a charter member of Carrollwood Country Club, Tampa. She was a 1950 graduate of a design school in New York City and studied art. She enjoyed reading and traveled extensively. He worked 25 years as a sales representative for Tetley Tea and retired from General Mills Co. He was a member of Northwood Presbyterian Church, Clearwater, and Kiwanis International. He was an avid golfer.
