  • BROWN, HORACE H., 92, of Crystal River, died Tuesday (March 4, 2003) at Cypress Cove Care Center in Crystal River. Born in Ozello, he was a lifelong resident in the area. He was a commercial fisherman and built his own boats. He invented the Well Skiff, which is commonly used throughout the state by commercial fishermen. He was an Army veteran stationed in the Panama Canal Zone. He was a member and past governor of the Moose. Survivors include his grandson, Jason Ellis, Crystal River; several nephews and nieces.   • COSTELL, THOMAS B., 84, of Beverly Hills, died Sunday (March 2, 2003) in Inverness. Born in Boston, he came here in 1986 from East Bridgewater, Mass. He was a retired civil engineer at Camp-Dresser-McKee of Boston. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the South Pacific aboard the USS Richard P. Leary, DD 664. He was past commander of American Legion Post 237, Beverly Hills, a member of American Legion Post, Homosassa, a former president of the New England Club, a member of a barbershop quartet and SPEBSOSA; and was past King Lion of Beverly Hills Lions Club, where he was a Melvin Jones Fellow.   • FOWLER, HAROLD E., 98, of Crystal River, died Wednesday (March 5, 2003) at Barrington Place, Lecanto. Born in Calico Rock, Ark., he came here 53 years ago from Miami. He was the former owner/operator of the Fowlers Grocery Store in Hernando. He was a retired Marine veteran who served as a mechanic. He was a 32 degree Mason and was past patron of Inverness Eastern Star. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hernando.   • GIERTZ, GLEN PERRY, 90, of Homosassa, died Monday (March 3, 2003) at Citrus Memorial Hospital, Inverness. Born in Strasburg, Ill., he came here 13 years ago from Merrillville, Ind. He was a retired crane operator for U.S. Steel. Survivors include his son, Allen L., Woodridge, Ill.; two daughters, Janet K.   • AUSTIN, MILDRED W., 92, of Spring Hill, died Sunday (March 2, 2003) at Evergreen Woods Health Care Center, Spring Hill. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she came here in 1981 from Hemstead, N.Y. She was a homemaker and was a member of Eastern Star and First Baptist Church of Brooksville. Survivors include her son, George Allen, Pittsboro, N.C.; and a brother, Warren Wickes, Operland, Ohio.   • BREWER, DR. DAVID R. JR., 83, of Brooksville, died Friday (Feb. 28, 2003) at home. Born in Woodbury, N.J., he came here four years ago from Conita Springs. He had a family practice in Gloucester, N.J., and was a graduate of Jefferson Medical College. He was a member of St. John's Episcopal Church, Brooksville.   • CATON, ELIZABETH "BETTY," 74, of Spring Hill, died Saturday (March 1, 2003) at Oak Hill Hospital, Spring Hill. Born in Easton, Pa., she came here in 2002 from Phillipsburg, N.J. She retired from the Pomfret Club after 30 years and was a 50-year member of the Jersey Hose Fire Company Auxiliary in Phillipsburg. She was Lutheran.   • DECKER, JANET HOSKINS, 45, of Brooksville, died Sunday (March 2, 2003) at Hernando-Pasco Hospice, Brooksville. Born in Coral Gables, she came here in 1970 from Miami. She and her husband owned/operated Seabreeze Oxygen & Medical Supply in Brooksville for 10 years. She was involved with Stage West for more than 20 years and volunteered with the Community Playhouse, Spring Hill. Survivors include her husband, Xavier; a brother, Eugene T. Hoskins, Brooksville; and a sister, Jill L. Hoskins, Orlando National Cremation Society, Brooksville.
  • FORMISANO, ALFONSO RALPH, 88, of Severna Park, Md., formerly of Spring Hill, died Tuesday (March 4, 2003) at Heartlands at Severna Park. Born in Union City, N.J., he lived in Spring Hill from 1978 to 2000. He was postmaster at Secaucus, N.J. post office. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving in the Pacific. He was a member of the Brooksville Country Club and St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church.   • GREGERSON, KATHERINE, 81, of Spring Hill, died Monday (March 3, 2003) at George Washington University Hospital, Washington D.C. Born in Newport, R.I., she came here in 1984 from Washington D.C. She was a physical therapist and a member of Hellenic Orthodox Mission of Hernando County. She was a member of the Republican National Committee, the Nature Conservancy and Daughters of Penelope Hermione, Chapter 11. Survivors include two brothers, Paul G. He was a retired truck driver for Imperial News Corp. and was a member of the Newspaper and Mail Deliverers Union, New York City. He was an Army veteran and a member of the Brooksville American Legion Post. He was a Third Degree Knight with the Knights of Columbus, St. Jude Council, and was a member of St. Frances Cabrini Catholic Church.     • CARROLL, HARRIET H., 81, of Belleair, died Wednesday (March 5, 2003) at home under the care of Hospice of the Florida Suncoast. She was born in Oakland, Calif., and came here in 1977 from Larchmont, N.Y. She was a member of the Belleair Country Club and American Contract Bridge League, where she was ranked as a bronze life master, and a former member of Larchmont Yacht Club. She was a world traveler. Survivors include two sons, Robert J. Jr., Town and Country, Mo., and Paul K., Raleigh, N.C.; her companion, Dr. Irwin Slater, Clearwater Beach; and two grandchildren.     • COXEN, BETTY F., 82, of Clearwater, died Monday (March 3, 2003) at home. She was born in Pittsburgh and came here in 1972 from Vienna, Va. She retired as a secretary after 25 years with the Department of Defense in Washington, D.C. She was a watercolor and oil artist and a member of Sweet Adelines and the Mah Johng Society. Survivors include a son, Paul S. Bainum, Lansdowne, Pa.; a daughter, Christine Brannaugh, Seattle; a brother, Kenneth B. Frazier, Wilmington, N.C.; two grandsons; and a great-grandchild.     • DEMET, JAMES "JIM," 60, of Clearwater, died Monday (March 3, 2003) at H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center, Tampa. He came here in 1959 from his native Racine, Wis., and was a 1961 graduate of Clearwater High School. He worked for the city of Clearwater. He retrieved the cross in 1961 at the annual Epiphany Day celebration in Tarpon Springs. He was a member of the Clearwater High School Reunion Committee for the Class of 1961. He enjoyed travel.     • SCOTT, M. CLEONA, 71, of Clearwater, died Monday (March 3, 2003) at Mease Dunedin Hospital. She was a winter visitor for six years and moved here in 2002 from her native Winamac, Ind. She worked there 20 years as a bookkeeper for Shepard Chevy Buick and eight years for Bill Goble car dealership. She was a member of the Winamac Presbyterian Church, OES Chapter 96 and Aerie 2680 Fraternal Order of Eagles. She graduated in 1927 from Cornell University. She was a member of the League of Women Voters in New York. Survivors include a son, James Griffith Zimmer, Rochester; a sister, Frances Sward, Chevy Chase, Md.; three grandchildren, Eric Zimmer, Safety Harbor, Heidi Zimmer-Meyer, Rochester, N.Y., and Roger Zimmer, Norwalk, Conn.; and five great-grandchildren.     • CATERER, BILLIE L., 93, formerly of Dunedin, died Thursday (Feb. 27, 2003) in Orlando under the care of hospice. She was born in Hope Mills, N.C., came to Clearwater in the early 1930s from Charlotte, N.C., moved in 1946 to Dunedin, and in 1977 to Orlando. In Charlotte, she worked as a cotton broker and founded a business and shorthand school for girls in 1929. She opened a similar school on Clearwater Beach in 1935 and after moving to Dunedin she owned and operated Billie's Cotton Patch, where she sold fabric at a penny an inch. She was a founder of the Clearwater Mental Health Association in the 1950s and was active in the desegregation movement and the PTA at local and state levels, was vice president of the League of Women Voters and served three years on the artist selection committee for the Clearwater Community Concert Association. Survivors include a daughter, Sally Jen Compton, Easley, S.C.; a son, William M. Douglas, Dunedin; and a sister, Emma Turner, Charlotte, N.C. National Cremation Society, Winter Park.
    • FREEMAN, EUNICE S., 81, of Dunedin, died Monday (March 3, 2003) at Mease Dunedin Hospital. She was born in West Springfield, Mass., and came here in 1988 from West Boylston, Mass. She worked as a hospitality manager for the Holiday Inn in Littleton, Mass. Survivors include a son, K. Stocks Freeman, Dunedin. National Cremation Society, Largo.
    • McGROARY, IRENE PHILLEO, 90, of Dunedin, died Sunday (March 2, 2003) at Mease Dunedin Hospital.
