BAFARO, FRANK J., 83, of Homosassa, died Friday (March 7, 2003) in St. Petersburg. Born in Chicago, he came 20 years ago from Oak Brook, Ill. He was a retired civil engineer for Consoertowsend and Associates and was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Crystal River. He was an Army veteran of World War II in the European, African and Middle Eastern theaters. He was awarded the Silver Star Medal, Good Conduct Medal and the Purple Heart with six battle stars. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans 139. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion, both of Illinois. Survivors include his wife of 37 years, Ruth Ermine Buch Straumann Bafaro; a daughter, Christine DeTomasi; a son, John, Summerfield; a niece; five grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. CWIKLINSKI, CHARLENE K., 62, of Citrus Springs, died Saturday (March 8, 2003) in Citrus Springs. She came here in 1987 from her native Kittery, Maine. She was a human resource officer for Gulf to Lakes Accounting, Black Diamond, and was a Navy veteran. She was a member of Hope Evangelical Lutheran Church of Citrus Springs. Survivors include her husband, Charles F.; a son, Christopher J., Suffolk, Va.; a daughter, Christine M. McKenna, Dover, N.H.; her stepmother, Varian Leland, Greensboro, N.C.; three brothers, Vaughn and Charles Leland, both of Greensboro, and Douglas Leland, Illinois; two sisters, Sandra Leland, Greensboro, and Debra Klowoski, St. Charles, Mich., and five grandchildren. DE GULIAM, VIOLET, 78, of Hudson, formerly of Floral City, died Friday (March 7, 2003) in Hudson. Born in North Arlington, N.J., she moved to Hudson in 2002 from Floral City, where she lived since 1974. She was a retired telephone operator. FOREMAN, ROSE ELLEN FAYE, 76, of Crystal River, died Saturday (March 9, 2003) at Cypress Cove Care Center, Crystal River. Born in St. Joseph, Mo., she was a longtime resident of Crystal River. She was a member of the Ozello Volunteer Fire Department. Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Robert E.; a daughter, LeeAnn Yeager; four sisters, Mildred N. MILFORD, ALMA V., 93, of Citrus Springs, died Monday (March 10, 2003) in Lecanto. Born in Mildred, Kan., she came here in 1984 from Bartlesville, Okla. OSTWALT, BETTY LOUISE, 79, of Inverness, died Sunday (March 9, 2003) at home under the care of her daughter and Hospice of Citrus County. Born in Duncannon, Pa., she came here in 1999 from Carrollton, Ky. She worked for the Navy Depot in Harrisburg, Pa., during World War II and retired as a restaurant manager after 40 years in the Cincinnati area. She was a lifetime member of the VFW Auxiliary and was a member of St. Andrew's Altar Society. Survivors include two daughters, Sherene Crockett, Amelia Island, and Sonja Smith, Shermans Grove, Pa.; a sister, Maxine Souder, Shermans Dale, Pa.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. RHOADS, EDWARD, 73, of Homosassa, died Tuesday (March 4, 2003) at Brooksville Regional Hospital. Born in Montgomery County, Pa., he came here in 2001 from Lincoln, Maine. SGOUROS, VIRGINIA, 77, of Beverly Hills, died Sunday (March 9, 2003) in Inverness. Born in Blacksburg, Va., she came here recently from Roanoke, Va. She was a homemaker and Baptist. BERANEK, WILLIAM F.J., 87, of Spring Hill, died Thursday (March 6, 2003) at home. Born in New York, he came here in 1979 from Mount Laurel, N.J. He was a retired exporter with FMC Corp. with 20 years of service. He was a Coast Guard and Merchant Marine veteran of World War II. He volunteered at Spring Hill Regional Healthcare and was Presbyterian. Survivors include his son, David, Wichita, Kan.; a daughter, Ellen Beranek, Siena, Italy; and three grandchildren. FRYE, JAMES A. "JIM," 69, of Brooksville, died Saturday (March 8, 2003) at Oak Hill Hospital, Spring Hill. Born in Dehue, W.Va., he came here 43 years ago. He worked in the coal mines of West Virginia and retired from Florida Crush Stone. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War and a member of Brooksville VFW. TINNEN, DONNA LEE, 51, of Spring Hill, formerly of Zephyrhills, died Sunday (March 9, 2003) at home. Born in Kearny, N.J., she came here two years ago from Zephyrhills. She was an emergency room nurse for Oak Hill Hospital, Spring Hill, Regional Medical Center, Bayonet Point, and East Pasco Medical Center, Zephyrhills. She was Catholic. DYER, ALLEN M. JR. M.D., 90, of Sun City Center, died Sunday (March 9, 2003). Born in Philippi, W.Va., he moved to Florida in 1986 from West Virginia. He received his medical degree from University of Chicago Rush Medical School. He was a charter fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians, member of the West Virginia Medical Association and Wetzel County Masonic Lodge. He practiced medicine in Pine Grove, W.Va., and Wetzel County Hospital for 45 years. Survivors include his wife Ruth Barrick and a son, Allen M. GARDNER, GUY F., 83, of Ruskin, died Saturday (March 8, 2003) at LifePath Hospice House in Sun City Center. Born in East Point, Ga., he moved to Ruskin in 1941. He was a U.S. Air Force veteran of World War II and was affiliated with Ruskin United Methodist Church. He was past president of the Showman's League of America, Greater Tampa Showman's Association, and impresario emeritus of R.O.J. Tampa Court 89, Hillsborough Lodge No. 25 F&AM, Scottish Rite of Tampa and the Egypt Shrine Temple. He was an honorary member of numerous Shrine Temples and Jester Courts. He served for 30 years as the secretary and business manager of Royal American Shows. He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Winafred; daughter, Lynn Elsberry; grandchildren, Lisa Apen, Orlando, Erin Rayfield, Ruskin, and Alison Elsberry, Ruskin; great-grandson, Cole Apen, Orlando; a sister, Dee Robinson of Dallas, Ga.; and many nieces and nephews. JOHNSON, LYLE R. JR. "RICKY," 40, of Burbank, Calif., formerly of Palm Harbor and Tampa, died Friday (Feb. 28 , 2003) at home. He moved to Palm Harbor in 1971 from his native Warren, Ohio, moved to Tampa in 1989 and to Burbank in 1995. He attended Dunedin High School. He was a psychologist and Protestant. MUSE, DEBRA ANITA, 40, of Tampa, died Saturday (March 8, 2003). A life-long resident of Tampa, she was a 1981 graduate of King High School and a 1994 graduate of Clearwater Christian College. She taught second grade and coached middle school cheerleading for nine years at Tampa Baptist Academy. She also worked at Sears for 22 years. She was a member of University Baptist Church. PRICE, CARLTON KENNETH "KEN," 68, of Riverview, died Monday (March 10, 2003). He was born in Malone and moved to Riverview 58 years ago. He was an auto mechanic and Baptist. HOFELDER, JOSEPH JOHN JR. "BUD," 56, of Holiday, died Monday (March 10, 2003) at home. He came here in 1982 from his native Philadelphia. He retired as a long distance tractor-semitrailor car-carrier driver. He was an Army combat veteran of the Vietnam War, who later served in the National Guard for 19 years in Philadelphia and Clearwater. He was a member and past commander of VFW Post 10167, and his memberships included American Legion Cicero Post, AmVet Post 98, DAV Post 78, Non-Commissioned Officers Association, Combat Infantry Association, Vietnam Association, and Vietnam Veterans of America. JONES, CHARLES E. JR., 48, of Holiday, died Monday (March 10, 2003) at home. He came here in 2002 from his native Erie, Pa. He was a retired painter and a member of Painters Union Local 549. Miller Improvements for 32 years. He loved animals, fishing and golf. He coached Northwest Little League baseball for 17 years and youth football for four years. - SHACKELFORD, CLAYTON H. "SHACK," 83, of St. Petersburg, died Monday (March 10, 2003) at Northside Hospital and Heart Institute, St. Petersburg. Born in Mount Sterling, Ky., he came here in 1987 from Pittsburgh. He was a 1943 electrical engineering graduate of the University of Kentucky. He served in the Navy in World War II. He was a self-employed electrical engineer in the construction industry and worked for the Atomic Energy Commission and General Electric. He served on the Habitat for Humanity Partners Council and the Garden Apartments and Cornell Building boards at Five Towns. He was a Kentucky Colonel and a longtime volunteer at the VA Medical Center at Bay Pines. He attended Unity Christ Church and was a member of the Elks Club.
