BILLITER, HILDA MAE, 88, of Inverness, died Thursday (March 13, 2003) at Hernando Pasco Hospice Care Center, Brooksville. Born in Grant County, Ky., she came here in 1973 from Union, Ky. Survivors include seven grandchildren, Jon, Joanna, Jeff, Julie, Jeanna, Jerry, and Graddy; and two great-grandchildren. Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory, Inverness.
BOARD, RONALD G., 62, of Inverness, died Tuesday (March 11, 2003) at Ocala Regional Medical Hospital. Born in Marion, Ind., he came here in 1997. He was a warehouse manager for Indiana Gas Company, an Air Force veteran, and a member of the Masons. Survivors include a son, Patrick; two daughters, Tawnya Seacott, and Mary Board, both of Richmond, Ind.; a brother, Donald, Grand Rapids, Mich.; and 10 grandchildren. Chas. E. BOWER, FRANK W. SR., 70, of Hernando, formerly of South Pasadena and St. Pete Beach, died Thursday (March 13, 2003) at the home of a son under the care of hospice. He was born in Staten Island, N.Y., and moved to Florida in 1968, living in St. Pete Beach for a year before moving to South Pasadena. He moved to Crystal River about 10 years ago. He worked in sales at Colonial Dodge in St. Petersburg and in insurance. He was a city commissioner of South Pasadena in 1973-76. He was instrumental in building the current City Hall and in bringing a Pinellas County Sheriff's Office station to South Pasadena, his family said. He was a Catholic and a Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of New Life Family Prayer Center, Crystal River, and Knights of Columbus. He was a past district commander of the VFW. He coached Little League baseball and Azalea League football. Survivors include four sons, Pastor Frank Jr., Hernando, Vincent, Bradenton, Anthony, Crystal River, and Shannon, Ocala; a daughter, Virginia Geisler, Crystal River; a brother, Bill, Hamilton Square. NIHAN, JOHN V., 75, of Hernando, died Thursday (March 13, 2003) at home under the care of family and Hospice. Born in North Easton, Mass., he came here in 1991 from Brockton and Bridgewater, Mass. He was a heavy equipment operator for the city of Brockton, an Army veteran of World War II, and owned Nihan Removal Service. Survivors include his wife, Charlotte; five daughters, Mary Pelaggi, Whitman, Mass., Diane Volpe, Bourne, Mass., Charlotte Fahey, California, and Maureen Nye and Darlene Saraiva, both of East Bridgewater, Mass.; three sons, John, Wareham, Mass., James, Bridgewater, and William, Lynn, Mass.; two sisters, Jacqueline Sweeney, Gainesville, and Maureen Martin, Cross Hill, S.C.; 15 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. NOCERA, MARION, 83, of Crystal River, died Friday (March 14, 2003) at home under the care of family. Born in New York City, she came here 22 years ago from Queens, N.Y. She was a homemaker and attended St. Scholastica Catholic Church, Lecanto. PARKER, ELEANOR JO, 69, of Floral City, formerly of St. Petersburg, died Thursday (March 13, 2003) at Citrus Memorial Hospital. Born in Germantown, Tenn., she came here in 1971 from St. Petersburg. She was a secretary for Central Testing Laboratory and a member of First Assembly of God Church. Survivors include a son, Joseph, Paintsville; four daughters, Sherri Davidson, Floral City, Tedi Jones, Panama City Beach, and Vickie Cassidy and Autumn Parker, both of Inverness; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. RODENBERG, JERALD W., 73, of Homosassa, died Thursday (March 13, 2003) in Homosassa. Born in Belleville, Mich., he came here in 1984 from Whitmore Lake, Mich. He was a retired machine setter for Ford Motor Company and a Marine Corps veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of American Legion Post 155, National Rifle Association and First Assembly of God. Survivors include his wife, Mary; a son, Robert, Killeen, Texas; a daughter, Sandra Blackwell, Homosassa; a brother, Duane, Canton, Mich.; a sister, Phyllis Scaufele, Plymouth, Mich.; nine grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren. SAENGER, KATHLEEN E., 79, of Homosassa, died Friday (March 14, 2003) in Crystal River. Born in Bronx, N.Y., she came here 13 years ago from Long Island. She was a retired secretary for Marsh and McLennan Insurance Company, New York City, and a volunteer at Homosassa State Wild Life Park, and a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, Homosassa Springs. Born in Stoneham, Mass., he was a retired mechanical engineer for the United States Government, an Army veteran, and Protestant. BURNS, THOMAS P., 63, of Hernando Beach, died Thursday (March 13, 2003) at home. Born in New Haven, Conn., he came here in 1986 from Connecticut. He was retired from the City of Clearwater in Public Service, a Navy veteran, and a member of American Legion Post 186, Eagles Lodge 4372, and St. Theresa Catholic Church. GRAY, CATHERINE R., 84, of Ridge Manor, died Thursday (March 13, 2003) at Brooksville Regional Hospital. Born in Detroit, she came here four years ago from Port Orange. She was a homemaker, a volunteer in the Port Orange Public Schools for 20 years, and at Hernando Christian Academy for four years, and involved in the City of Port Orange Recreation Department. BARCENA, RODOLFO "STITCH," 47, of Tampa, died Wednesday (March 12, 2003). He was a native of Matauzas, Cuba and a resident of Tampa for 25 years, coming from New York. BELL, CLEVELAND, 72, of Tampa, died Tuesday (March 11, 2003). A native of the area, he was educated in the Hillsborough County school system. McLEOD, THOMAS LAWSON, 50, of Wesley Chapel, formerly of Tampa, died Wednesday (March 12, 2003) in Wesley Chapel. He came to Wesley Chapel in 1975 from Tampa. He was a pipe fitter and welder and a member of the First Baptist Church of Zephyrhills. Survivors include his wife, Kathy; a daughter, Kimberly Shipley, Zephyrhills; and two sons, Tommy Lawson McLeod Jr., Plant City, and Stephen, Zephyrhills; a brother, William McLeod Jr., Dade City; a sister, Deborah Johnston, Zephyrhills; and four grandchildren. PERRY, JOHN BRIAN, 70, of Carrollwood, formerly of Merseyside, England, died Wednesday (March 12, 2003). Born in Liverpool, England, he later moved to the area from Merseyside England. He was an electrical engineer, a member of the British Royal Air Force and traveled the world working privately in service to the British Government as a liaison with munitions to numerous countries; including the U.S. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Carrollwood Ward. PONDER, WALLACE G., 79, of Tampa, died Thursday (March 13, 2003). Born in Birmingham, Ala., he moved to the area in the early 1940s. He retired from the U.S. Air Force. VILLAREAL, JEAN BATES, 75, of Tampa, died Friday (March 14, 2003) at her home. Born in Springhead, she later moved to the area. She graduated from Hillsborough High School, received her bachelor's degree from Florida State College for Women (now Florida State University) and her master's degree from the University of Florida. She worked as a teacher and speech pathologist in Hillsborough County Schools. She was a member of the Lowry Park Zoo board, the City of Tampa tree board, United Fund, United Cerebral Palsy, the March of Dimes, P.T.A., the Hillsborough County School Study Commission, and John Calvin Presbyterian Church. She was an active environmentalist. After founding Bimini Garden Circle, she went on to hold a number of leadership roles in the Florida Federation of Garden Clubs, serving as District VIII director and state president. She was past Deep South regional director, and national parliamentarian. She played a big role in developing the FFGC's Wekiva Youth Camp. She began as a waterfront volunteer in the mid 1960s. She served many years as camp director, camp chairwoman and as building committee chairman. In that role, she raised funds to build a youth camp facility in the Wekiva Springs State Park, near Orlando. In later years, she led the camp's environmental education program, participating in canoeing and other activities. Survivors include a son, D. Warren Villareal; and seven grandchildren. She was born in Kansas City, Mo., and came here in 1969 from Chicago, where she was chief X-ray technician for Municipal Tuberculosis Sanitarium. She was Catholic and enjoyed nature and animals. - HUFFMAN, LENORE CUNNINGHAM, 77, of Dunedin, died Friday (March 14, 2003). She was born in Hanging Rock, W.Va. She retired as legal secretary to the attorneys of the Child Advocate Office in Elkins, W.Va., where she had worked as a a purchasing agent for Kelly Foundry of Elkins, W.Va. Prior to that, she worked for Farmer's Home Administration in Franklin, W.Va. She was a graduate of Catherman's Business School, Cumberland, Md. She was a member of the Suncoast New Neighbors Club and First United Methodist Church of Dunedin, where she worked as a volunteer receptionist and office worker. He worked as a home improvement contractor and was self employed. He was a member of Loch Raven Methodist Church, Baltimore. He was an Army veteran and received recognition from the Sons of the American Revolution for displaying a flag every day. - GASS, MATTHEW "MICKEY," 84, of Palm Harbor, died on Saturday (March 15, 2003) at Edinborough Healthcare Center, Dunedin. He was born in Shirley, Mass., was a winter resident since 1987 and moved here permanently in 1996 from New Hampshire. He was owner of M&M Stables in Rockingham Park, N.H., and worked with Tampa Bay Downs as owner of racehorses. He retired in 1982 as a partner after 30 years of service in his family-owned Lowell Cattle Co. He was a graduate of Lowell Textile College in Massachusetts and briefly worked as a textile chemist for the federal government. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving on the destroyer escort USS Johnny Hutchins and was Jewish. Survivors include his wife of 17 years, Maureen T.; a daughter, Maureen P. Gass-Brown, Willingboro, N.J.; two sons, Michael, Wilton, Conn., and Edward, Crozet, Va.; three sisters, Florence Litzerman and Jenny Dworkin, both of Marlborough, Mass., and Fannie Arlin, Massachusetts; and five grandchildren. He was a heating and air conditioning engineer, a former member of the Coast Guard Reserve and was Catholic. - CLARK, CENIA LOUISA, 86, of Tarpon Springs died Friday (March 14, 2003) at home. She was born in Doerun, Ga., and came here in 1952 from Milledgeville, Ga. She was a public school teacher for 30 years and taught at Sunset Hills Elementary School in Tarpon Springs for 20 years. She was a member of the First Christian Church, Tarpon Springs. She was past president of the Friends of the Library and the Retired Teachers Association. Survivors include three daughters, Lillian Bateman, Oroville, Calif., and Louisa Ann Clark Toth, and Janey Garcia, both of Tarpon Springs; a son, Bobby Clark, Palm Harbor; a brother, James Brown, Evans, Ga.; eight grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. - DAMRON, JAMES CHRISTIAN, 89, of Tarpon Springs, died Thursday (March 13, 2003) at Helen Ellis Memorial Hospital, Tarpon Springs. He was born in Baltimore and came here in 1977 from Springville, N.Y. He retired with the rank of lieutenant after 30 years of service in the Navy. He attended St. Ignatius of Antioch Catholic Church, Tarpon Springs, and was member of the Military Officers Association of America. Survivors include his wife of 24 years, Mildred W.; a son, Patrick, Dallas; two daughters, Christine Carter, Birchrunville, Pa., and Sylvia McCoy, Tarpon Springs; and eight grandchildren. - DAWKINS, O.C., 85 of Davenport, formerly of Tarpon Springs, died Wednesday (March 12, 2003) in Haines City. He was born in Pike County, Ala., and moved the Davenport area in 1993 from Tarpon Springs. He was a maintenance worker for Scarborough-Weyhauser Construction. She was a homemaker and a member of Unitarian Universalist Church. She was an avid fan of the Chicago Cubs baseball team. He and his wife owned J.M. Archer Associates of St. Petersburg and formerly owned Julia's Gifts and Engraving in Seminole. He was Methodist and a Mason and a Shriner.
