GATLIN, LAURIN A. SR., 77, of Crystal River, died Friday (March 14, 2003) in Ocala. Born in Thomson, Ga., he came here 31 years ago from Cocoa Beach. A Navy veteran of World War II, he served as an electrician's mate third class. After the military, he graduated from Bliss Electrical School in 1947, Tacoma Park, Md. He retired after 20 years of service as senior electrical engineer for PECO, Washington, D.C., spent 10 years with NASA and TWA working on the Space Shuttle program and then worked for Flour-Daniel as a nuclear engineer. He was a Crystal River business owner and real estate broker for 20 years. He was a 32nd Degree Mason with Springs Masonic Lodge 378 Homosassa, enjoyed country gospel music, played guitar, and was an avid fisherman. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Loretta; a son, Laurin "Andy" Jr., Crystal River; a brother, Robert, Chestertown, Md.; two grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. SCHROEDER, RUBY MARIE, 91, of Lake Panasoffkee, died Friday (March 14, 2003) at Citrus Memorial Hospital, Inverness. Born in Suring, Wis., she came here in 1977 from Hollywood. She was a member of First Lutheran Church of Inverness. Survivors include a daughter, Sharon Kozlowski, Lake Panasoffkee; two sons, Allen, Davie, and Donald, Lake Panasoffkee; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Chas E. BUETTNER, LUKE, 24, of Spring Hill and Sarasota, died Wednesday (March 12, 2003) as a result of an automobile accident. Born in Toledo, Ohio, he came here in 1981. A 1996 graduate of Springstead High, he played sports in the community athletic leagues, played varsity baseball and signed with Seminole Community College. He later received a scholarship to Daytona Beach Community College, where he was awarded All Conference Closer of the Year. Survivors include his mother, Carol Buettner, Spring Hill; his father, Jim Buettner, Sarasota; maternal grandfather, Cecil "Tip" Tipton, Spring Hill; an uncle, Curt Tipton, Mount Vernon, Ohio; and three cousins. CROCE, GAETANA, 76, of Spring Hill, died Saturday (March 15, 2003) at Evergreen Woods. Born in New York City, she came here 18 years ago from Queens, N.Y. She was a fur designer and Catholic. RICE, MARGARET C. "MARGE," 72, of Spring Hill, died Saturday (March 15, 2003) at Spring Hill Regional Hospital. Born in Hinsdale, Ill., she came here 12 years ago from Round Rock, Texas. She was a commercial underwriter for Dairyland Insurance. She was a member of Dayspring Presbyterian Church, Craft Club and Children Shoe Box Fund, Past Senior Regent of Woman of the Moose Does, Woman of the Elks Past President and Past Honored Queens, and a Jobs Daughter of the Eastern Star. Survivors include her husband of 54 years, Tom; two sons, Thomas, Castle Rock, Colo., and Jim, Round Rock, Texas; a brother, Carter Wind, Lebanon, Ky.; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. ROTH, MARTIN S., 43, of Brooksville, died Friday (March 14, 2003) at Brooksville Regional Medical Center. Born in Plainfield, N.J., he came here in 1991 from Mount Pocono, Pa. SAWYER, WILLIAM AJAX "BILLY," 32, of Darby, died Friday (March 14, 2003) as a result of an automobile accident. A lifelong resident of Brooksville, he was a welder for Ajax Welding, vice president of Florida Cowboy Mounted Shooting Association, and Baptist. He enjoyed horseback riding, pinning cows, hunting, the outdoors, and cookouts. Survivors include his wife, Schelena; two sons, William Jr. and Dalton, both of Darby; his parents, James and Helen Sawyer, Darby; and three brothers, John, Bar Nunn, Wyo., T. WATROUS, NORMAN K., 74, of Brooksville, died Saturday (March 15, 2003) at Heron Point Health and Rehab Center, Brooksville. He came here 21 years ago from his native, Groton, N.Y. He was a retired plant manager for Smith Corona Co., a Merchant Marine veteran of World War II, and Protestant. CALOHAN, WILLIAM "EARL," 67, of Tampa died Saturday (March 15, 2003). He was a lifelong resident of Hillsborough County and a member of Teamsters local No. 79. CURRY, BERTHA G., 76, of Tampa, died Friday (March 14, 2003). She was a former resident of Daytona Beach and a graduate of New Orleans Hospital School of Nursing in New Orleans. She and her husband were the original owners of Curry's Funeral Home on S MacDill Avenue from 1957 to 1991. She was a member of Palma Ceia United Methodist Church, Palma Ceia Golf and Country Club and Wildcat Cliffs Country Club in Highlands, N.C. Survivors include her husband of 50 years, Mark W. EBANKS, MARGARET ERENA, 79, of Tampa, died Friday (March 14, 2003). She was a native of Grand Cayman, British West Indies, and moved to the Tampa area in 1995. She was Presbyterian. FERLITA, ROSA, 98, of Tampa, died Saturday (March 15, 2003). She was born in Tampa and was raised in Ybor City where she worked as a cigar maker. HARRELL, GORDON M. SR., 57, of Tampa, died Friday (March 14, 2003). He was born in Cleburne County, Ala. He worked as an account adjuster. DAMMEYER, RICHARD FREDERICK, 83, of Bayonet Point, died Friday (March 14, 2003) at Bayonet Point Health and Rehabilitation Center, Hudson. Born in Mercer County, Ohio, he came here 15 years ago from New Bremen, Ohio. He was an accountant for Crown Control Corp., an Army veteran of World War II, and a member of St. Marks Presbyterian Church. GOODWIN, MYRON "DICK," 70 of Hudson, died Saturday (March 15, 2003) at Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point. Born in Cincinnati, he came here four years ago from Chicago. He was a retired shipping clerk for Binks Manufacturing Co., Franklin Park, Ill. And a Navy veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of AFC-C-10, Chicago, and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Hudson. GRANGER, MABLE MARIAN STERNS, 87, of New Port Richey, died Saturday (March 8, 2003). She came here many years ago from her native, Ludington, Mich. She was past matron and life member of Pere Marquette Chapter 327 O.E.S., Ludington, and a member of Community United Methodist Church, Holiday. SHULENBURG, GIFFORD W., 83, of New Port Richey, died Friday (March 14, 2003) at Community Hospital, New Port Richey. He came here in 1984 from his native Joliet, Ill. He was a quality control inspector for Caterpillar and an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of Chester McKay V.F.W. Post 7987, China Burma and India 17554, America Legion 0343. - SANDERS, GEORGE "BILL," 86, of Dunedin, died Saturday (March 15, 2003) at Mease Dunedin Hospital. He was born in Kokomo, Ind., and came here in 1990 from Wabash, Ind., where he retired as an insurance salesman. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a musician and played music at Mease Dunedin Hospital every Friday. He was a member of the hospital's Auxiliary. He was a member of the American Legion. - PALMITER, WAYNE, 85, of Largo, died Saturday (March 15, 2003) at Largo Medical Center. He was born in Bellevue, Mich., and came here in 1989 from Battle Creek, Mich. He retired as a sales representative for the Berkley Pump Co. He was Methodist. He was a member of Elks Lodge 2159, Largo. He was a former member of Holiday Isles Elks Lodge 1912, Madeira Beach. He retired as a supervisor in an automobile business. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Tarpon Springs and the Moose Lodge in Holiday. She was a member of the First Christian Church, Tarpon Springs, and was past president of the Friends of the Library and the Retired Teachers Association. - WADDELL, LT. COL. EDWARD S., 79, of St. Petersburg, died Friday (March 14, 2003) at Hospice House Woodside, Pinellas Park. He was born in Blairsville, Pa., and came here in 1966. He graduated from Carnegie Tech as a mechanical engineer. He was a veteran of World War II and served in the Army Corps of Engineers for 22 years. He was a member and former deacon of Garden Crest Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed fishing; metal detecting; playing cards; and raising roses, which he took to nursing homes and shut-ins. Survivors include his wife of seven years, Enid J.; a son, Michael, and a daughter, Ruth Ann Bartkovsky, both of St. Petersburg; two stepsons, Gary Dance and Jon Dance; two stepdaughters, Marsha Dance and Karen Anderson; a sister Lois Klinedinst, Bethesda, Md; a brother, Albert, Reno, Nev.; and five grandchildren, Jeffrey, Gregory, Suzanne, Lauren and Kevin.
