EVANS, WILLIAM E., 78, of Brooksville, died Saturday (March 15, 2003) at Brooksville Regional Hospital. Born in Miami, he came here in 1978 from Fort Walton Beach. He was a counseling psychologist and mental health counselor in Hernando County. He retired from the Navy with 21 years of service. He was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II, the Korean War and Vietnam War. He was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church. Survivors include his wife, Mary Rose; two nieces, Betty Lou Olmen, Inverness, and Emilie S. Sluyter, Hernando; and a nephew, Gerald Dinardo, California. FREEMAN, ALMA, 86, of Lecanto, died Sunday (March 16, 2003) in Lecanto. Born in Washington, D.C., she came here in 1976 from East Northport, N.Y. She was a retired dietitian for the Presbyterian Medical Center in New York City. She was a life member of both the Beverly Hills VFW Auxiliary 10087 and Afro-American Club of Citrus County. She was a member of the Beverly Hills Community Church and its Women's Guild. Survivors include a brother, Theodore Thomas, Vienna, Va.; a stepbrother, Lloyd Thomas, Colorado Springs, Colo.; a godson, Austin Vam Putten, and a goddaughter, Viola Van Putten, both of Beverly Hills; many nieces and nephews. HUMPHRIES, GEORGE, 67, of Floral City, died Saturday (March 15, 2003) at home. Born in Long Branch, N.J., he came here in 1973 from Keyport, N.J. He was a maintenance manager for Metal Industries of Bushnell with 10 years of service. He was Methodist. Survivors include his wife of 38 years, Jane (King); two daughters, Nancy Lorenzo, Toms River, N.J., and Karen Stewart, Bellville, N.J.; two brothers, Charles, Floral City, and Kenneth, Whiting, N.J.; seven grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. SNYDER, ROBIN DIANE, 25, of Inglis, died Sunday (March 16, 2003) at Munroe Regional Hospital, Ocala. Born in Gainesville, she was a lifelong resident of this area. She was a shift manager for the McDonald's restaurant in Dunnellon. She was Baptist. Survivors include her husband, James; her parents, Jim and Diane Smith, Dunnellon; a brother, James E. BROWN, WALTER E. SR., 61, of Spring Hill, died Sunday (March 16, 2003) at Hernando-Pasco Hospice, Brooksville. Born in Detroit, he came here two years ago from Elkridge, Md. He was a truck driver and member of the Teamster Union. He was Catholic. Survivors include three sons, Walter E. Brown Jr., Spring Hill, Robert, Ocala, and Craig, Pasadena, Md.; three daughters, Geraldine, Hanover, Md., Sherry Dolan, Lynchburg, Va., and Mary Willard, Pennsylvania; a brother and two sisters; 19 grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. DIXON, JOSEPH F. JR. "BUZZY," 59, of Spring Hill, died Saturday (March 15, 2003) at Oak Hill Hospital, Spring Hill. He came here in 1985 from his native Staten Island, N.Y. He was a retired officer for the New York City Transit Department, member of the Moose Lodge and Hernando County 1013 Club. Survivors include his wife, Carol; a daughter, Carolyn Dixon, Staten Island; three sons, William, Hopewell Junction, N.Y., Joseph "Jay," Gainesville, and Michael, Tampa; his parents, Joseph and Dorothy Dixon Sr., Port Richey; a brother, Albert, Hudson; and three grandchildren. FRENZEL, JOHN W., 74, of Spring Hill, died Sunday (March 16, 2003) at Oak Hill Hospital, Spring Hill. Born in Leipzig, Germany, he came here 18 years ago from Farmingdale, N.Y. He was the retired owner of Columbia Tool & Instrument. He was an Army veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge. He was Lutheran. KOCHOUNIAN, VARTOUHI "ROSE," 92, of Spring Hill, died Saturday (March 15, 2003) at Oak Hill Hospital, Spring Hill. She was born in Turkey and came here in 1956 from Evanston, Ill. MacDONALD, KATHERINE R., 86, of Spring Hill, died Friday (March 14, 2003) at Hernando-Pasco Hospice, Brooksville. Born in Philadelphia, she came here 25 years ago from Havertown, Pa. TARR, MARIE P., 76, of Brooksville, died Sunday (March 9, 2003) at Brooksville Healthcare Center. Born in Lansing, Mich., she came here 19 years ago from Spring Arbor, Mich. She retired from Spartan Electronics with 28 years of service. She volunteered at Brooksville Regional Hospital for 10 years. She was a member First Baptist Church. ASTORQUIZA, ROSA, 87, of Tampa, died Saturday (March 15, 2003). Born in Cardenas, Cuba, she moved to Tampa in 1976 from New Jersey. She was a teacher and businesswoman in Cuba. BUTTON, LUELLA, 82, of Tampa, died Friday (March 14, 2003) at the Austin House, Lutz. Born in Corning, N.Y., she moved to Florida 28 years ago. She was an inspector for a glass manufacturing company and was a member of the Sheldon Road Baptist Church. She was a member of the Grange, Town & Country Chapter of the AARP and a member of TOPS. NATHAN, MAJOR DONALD W., 76, of New Port Richey, died Sunday (March 16, 2003) at Hernando-Pasco Hospice, New Port Richey. Born in East Orange, N.J., he came here 11 years ago from Pittsburgh. He was a major with the Salvation Army with 43 years of service. He was a former director of development serving in western Pennsylvania, central Illinois, eastern Iowa, western New York, southwest Ohio, northeast Kentucky and in New Jersey. He was chaplain of the Pennsylvania House of Representatives. He was a jewelry sales representative for Pesselnik & Cohen. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of District 65 Security Plan, New York and West Pasco Jewish Community Center. STOUT, ARTHUR W. JR., 82, of Dade City, died Sunday (March 16, 2003) in Dade City. Born in Mobile, Ala., he lived in Dade City for 20 years. He was a graduate of Tulane University with a degree in chemical engineering. He was a retired vice president of New York Shipbuilding Co. He retired as president of the Todd Shipbuilding Corp. He served on the board of directors for the American Bureau of Shipping and the Todd Shipyards. He was a member of the Society of Naval Architects and Marine Engineers and a life member of the Navy League. He was a Navy veteran and retired as a commander in the Naval Reserve. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Dade City. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Rowena Lee; two sons, Arthur W. WILLIAMS, SHARON LASHAWN CURRENT, 35, of Holiday, formerly of Tarpon Springs, died Saturday (March 15, 2003) at Kindred Hospital, Tampa. She was a longtime resident of her native Tarpon Springs and moved to Holiday in 1999. She was a certified nursing assistant at Tarpon Bayou Center with 10 years of service. She was a Tarpon Springs Youth Football League cheerleading coach. She was a member of Macedonia Missionary Baptist Church of Tarpon Springs. Survivors include her husband, Alanzo C. She was born in Virginia, Minn., and came here in 1994 from Allen Park, Mich., where she co-owned the Village House Restaurant. She was Catholic, a volunteer on the welcoming committee at Bayview Gardens Retirement Village, and a past president of Soroptimist International in Allen Park. Survivors include four sons, Mike, Clearwater, Ed, Temple Terrace, Dick, Libertyville, Ill., and Tom, Clinton, Wis.; two daughters, Dorothy Grifka, Dunedin, and Margaret Olesanvage, Lupton, Mich.; 14 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
