  • BARRETT, BENJAMIN SMITH, 82, of Crystal River, died Thursday (March 20, 2003) at Seven Rivers Community Hospital, Crystal River. Born in Chicago, he came here nine years ago from Jackson, Miss. He was a retired executive in the automobile industry, a graduate of Northwestern University, and an Army/Air Force veteran of World War II. He was a volunteer with Meals on Wheels and attended Crystal River United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife, Helen; two sons, Dr. William, Seattle, and Benjamin, Los Angeles; two sisters, Ann Hubben, Philadelphia, and Barbara Pedersen, Chapel Hill, N.C.; a step-son, David Byron, Jackson; five grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren.   • ELLIS, CHARLES H., 71, of Inverness, died Friday (March 21, 2003) at home. Born in Miami, he came here 15 years ago from Atlanta, Ga. He was a farmer. He was Christian.   • KEEN, JOE G., 64, of Spring Hill, died Friday (March 21, 2003) at Spring Hill Regional Hospital. Born in Portland, Tenn., he came here six years ago from Indianapolis. He retired after 30 years as a millwright with Ford Motor Company. He was a past member of F&AM and Shriner in Indianapolis. He held a special interest in antique automobiles. He was Baptist.   • MCDONNELL, JOSEPH P., 75, of Tavares, formerly of Beverly Hills, died Saturday (March 22, 2003) in Tavares. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., he moved to Lecanto in 1979 and then came moved to Beverly Hills in 1994. He was a New York City train dispatcher. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and Korea. He was a member of Knights of Columbus 6954, Crystal River, and St. Benedict Catholic Church. Born in Woodbury, Conn., he came here six months ago from Waterbury, Conn. He was a railroad engineer and worked 30 years for Pennsylvania Central Railroad. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was an avid sportsman. He was Christian.   • MISTRETTA, VIRGINIA D., 96, of Tampa, died Saturday (March 22, 2003). A lifelong resident of Tampa, she was born a first-generation American of Sicilian ancestry. She was a fluent speaker of English, Spanish and Sicilian/Italian. She worked in the cigar industry and later with her husband in the tile and terrazzo business. She was a lifelong member of the Sons of Italy and Columbus Celebration of Tampa. Survivors include her daughter Violet M. Teston; two grandsons; and four great-grandchildren. She was a longtime member of First Baptist Church in Brandon, where she taught Sunday School for many years. She was a 50-year member of the Areme Chapter of Order of the Eastern Star.     • MANNING, JOHN B. SR., 88, of Norton, Mass., formerly of Belleair Bluffs, died Wednesday (March 19, 2003) at Epoch of Norton. He was born in New York City and came here after he retired as a manufacturers representative for Standard White Metals Corp., Brooklyn. He graduated from Loyola Prep School, New York City, and in 1940 from Fordham University. He was an Army veteran of World War II, where he served in counterintelligence. He was the director of public relations for City College of New York from 1946 to 1948 and at one time was editor and publisher of the Bergen County Telegram of New Jersey. Survivors include two sons, Gregory D., Cypress, Calif., and Joseph R., Madison, N.J.; two daughters, Elise M. Marvelle, Norton, and Lea M.     • CORDELO, CHARLES EDWARD JR. "CHUCK," 68, of Clearwater, died Friday (March 21, 2003) at Morton Plant Hospital, Clearwater. He was born in Atlanta and came here in 1971 from Augusta, Ga. He was a self-employed auctioneer and locally, during the 1980s, he owned and operated Chuck's Towing Service. He graduated from Georgia Tech. He was a musician and a member of the Atlanta Country Music Hall of Fame. He performed at the Grand Old Opry and traveled with several noted Nashville music artists including Mel Tillis. He was a member of Everybody's Tabernacle and Masonic Lodge 127, both of Clearwater. Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Martha; three daughters, Traci Blair and Yvette Allgood, both of Clearwater, and Rebecca Paden, Lawrenceville, Ga.; three sons, William and Chuck, both of Clearwater, and Perry, Dallas, Ga.; a sister, Mary Christian, Port Charlotte; a brother, Raymond Connell, Mableton, Ga.; 16 grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. She was a homemaker. She was a member of Episcopal Church of the Good Shepherd, Dunedin, Countryside Country Club and the Countryside Nine Holers. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Clearwater, the Psi Iota Xi Sorority and the American Ex-Prisoners of War Association.     • BUDZIUS, JOSEPH M. SR., 95, of Largo, died Friday (March 21, 2003) at Mariner Health Care of Clearwater. He was born in Lithuania and came here from Puyallup, Wash. He worked as a general foreman for Inland Steel, Chicago. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Largo.     • DOTSON, VALERIE JOAN, 67, of Largo, died Saturday (March 22, 2003) at Morton Plant Hospital, Clearwater. She was born in Chicago and came here in 1999 from Kimberling City, Mo. She was a homemaker. She was an avid bingo player and crafts person. Survivors include her husband of 46 years, Raymond M.; two sons, Kurt, St. Petersburg, and Kent, Coal City, Ill.; a daughter, Jenny Newcomb, Kansas City, Kan.; two brothers, Wayne and Wynn Kempt; three sisters, Lilia Canavan, Vivian Neary and Verna Bardsley; and five grandchildren.     • QUEEN, NORMAN W., 71, of Largo, died Friday (March 21, 2003) at Palm Garden of Largo nursing home. He was born in Waltham, Mass., and came here in 1996 from Tucson, Ariz. He retired after 20 years in the Air Force. He was a member of St. Matthew Catholic Church, Largo, Turner Brandon American Legion Post 7, Clearwater, and the Elks and Masonic Lodges.     • MORGAN, MARJORIE TERESA, 86, of Palm Harbor, died Thursday (March 20, 2003) at home. She was born in Salem, Mass., worked as a nurse in Beverly and Topsfield, Mass., and came here in 1973 from England where she had lived for many years.     • NOBEL, HENRY, of Lake Worth, formerly of Palm Harbor, St. Petersburg and Bimini, Bahamas, died Sunday (March 23, 2003) in Lake Worth. He came here in 1957 from his native New York City. He was a contractor in the aerospace field and formerly worked for ECI, then in 1961 co-founded TriTech of Florida. He retired in 1992. He was a former member of Temple Beth El, St. Petersburg. He was an active volunteer with Lighthouse for the Blind, an avid golfer, sport fisherman and world traveler. He was born in Athens, Tenn., and came here in 1962 from Etowah, Tenn. He owned and operated West Coast Pest Management, Palm Harbor. He was a Navy veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a member of Wesley Memorial United Methodist Church of Etowah. He retired as foreman for C&P Bell Telephone (now Atlantic), Washington, D.C. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was Episcopalian. He worked as a warehouse manager at Florida Tile for 10 years and as a jailer at the St. Petersburg Police Department. He served in the Navy for 20 years and was a World War II veteran. He worked with the visually impaired and was involved with Lighthouse for the Blind in West Palm Beach. He was a former member of Temple Beth El. He was an avid golfer, sport fisherman and world traveler.     • LATTU, KRISTAN ROSEMARY, 56, of Treasure Island, died Thursday (March 13, 2003) in Los Angeles of heart failure. She was born in San Francisco. She was an air traffic controller in Palmdale, Calif., and joined the NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, Calif., in 1978 as assistant to the director of Voyager flight operations. She retired in 1998. She received a bachelor's degree in linguistics and technical applications from the University of California at Los Angeles in 1970. She was a member of the history committee of the International Academy of Astronautics. She enjoyed horseback riding, mountain hiking and photography.
