  • ARMSTRONG, SHIRLEY A., 74, of Crystal River, formerly of St. Petersburg, died Saturday (March 22, 2003) at Seven Rivers Community Hospital, Crystal River. Born in Camden, N.J., she came to Florida in 1972 from Philadelphia. She was a retired electronics planner for ABA, St. Petersburg. She was a member of the Humanitarians of Crystal River and was Catholic. Survivors include a nephew, Brian Jannette, Seminole; and two nieces, Caroleanne Vorac and Marybeth Malownaski, both of Pinellas Park. National Cremation Society, Brooksville.
  • DELANEY NOVA A., 96, of Lecanto, died Monday (March 24, 2003) at Nature Coast Lodge in Lecanto. Born in Wapella, Ill., she came here in 1996 from Clinton, Ill. She was a former teacher in the Decatur, Ill., school system, and a partner of Delaney Grain and Lumber Company, Wapella, Ill. She attended Millikin University and was a member of Sigma Alpha Iota Sorority. She was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church of Beverly Hills.   • KALB, RALPH H., 74, of Crystal River, formerly of Clearwater, died Saturday (March 22, 2003) at Seven Rivers Community Hospital, Crystal River. Born in Milwaukee, he moved to Crystal River eight years ago from Clearwater, where he had lived since 1960. He was a retired nuclear engineer with General Electric with 30 years of service. He was a Navy veteran of World War II and member of Rotocraft. Survivors include two sons, Dr. David Gower, Marietta, Ga., and Retired Master Chief Petty Officer Jeffrey Gower, Moorehead City, N.C.; and a granddaughter, Shannon Gower.   • KIMBREW, JASON ARCH, 77, of Beverly Hills, died Monday (March 24, 2003) at home under the care of his family and Hospice of Citrus County. Born in Huttonsville, W.Va., he came here two years ago from Valley Bend, W.Va. He was a retired inspector with the General Motors Corp., Lordstown, Ohio, with 34 years of service. He was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a life member of the American Legion Post, Elkins, W.Va. He was a retired steel worker for Great Lakes Steel and a Navy veteran of World War II. He was a member of Leroy Rooks VFW Post 4252 and Calvary Christian Center Church of Inverness.   • DUKES, W. HOWARD, 67, of Kissimmee, formerly of Brooksville, died Saturday (March 22, 2003) at Osceola Regional Medical Center in Kissimmee. Born in Brooksville, he moved to Kissimmee six years ago from Cape Coral. He was a 1955 graduate of Hernando High School and an Air Force veteran of the Vietnam War. He was Protestant. He was the owner/operator of Terry Turner Tire Company for more than 30 years. He was an Army veteran, serving during the Korean War era. He enjoyed golf and singing.     • DAWSON, MILDRED DRY, 87, of St. Petersburg, died Tuesday (March 25, 2003) at Shore Acres Rehabilitation and Nursing Center. She came here in 1926 from her native Atlanta. She started her teaching career at Euclid Elementary School and was principal of Lakeview and North Ward elementary schools. She retired in 1974 after 40 years in Pinellas schools. She was a 1932 graduate of St. Petersburg High School and attended St. Petersburg Junior College. She received a bachelor's degree from the University of Tampa and a master's degree from the University of Florida. She was president of Pinellas County International Reading Association and a member of Florida Retired Educators. She was a member of Woodlawn Presbyterian Church, where she was an elder and sang in the choir. She was an Easter Seal volunteer and a member of Daughters of the Confederacy, Kappa Delta Pi, Pi Lambda Theta, Phi Kappa Phi and Delta Kappa Gamma.     • FLEER, CHARLES H. SR., 67, of St. Petersburg, died Monday (March 24, 2003) at the James A. Haley VA Medical Center after a stroke. Born in Winside, Neb., he came here in 1994 from Belize. He was a member of the Republican Club of Seminole and ran for a seat on the Pinellas County Commission in 2000 and for a legislative seat in 1994. He had a career in government service during the administrations of Presidents Nixon, Ford, Carter and Reagan, predominantly in the areas of economic development and international trade. He published five books on advanced and emerging technologies and operated an investment company in Latin America. She attended Massachusetts Institute of Technology and graduated from Brandeis University, in Waltham, Mass. She was a 1963 graduate of Harvard with a master's degree in teaching. She was a leader of five student study groups to Russia. She was a former director of a Russian language program at Leningrad State University. She was an avid reader and loved to crochet.
