HEADLEE-BELL, EDNA JOSEPHINE, 89, of Inverness, died Friday (March 28, 2003) at Citrus Memorial Hospital, Inverness. Born in Veedersburg, Ind., she came here in 1972 from Danville, Ill. She was a homemaker, enjoyed crocheting, and was a member of Hernando Church of the Nazarene where she enjoyed playing the piano. Survivors include two daughters, Phyllis Potts, Inverness, and Lois Block, Oakwood, Ill.; 10 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. Chas. E. Davis Funeral Home with Crematory, Inverness.
SCHMIDT, CLARA MAE WALTER, 84, of Lecanto, died Friday (March 28, 2003) at Citrus Memorial Hospital, Inverness. Born in Redfield, Kan., she came here in 1955 from Kansas City, Mo. She was a retired real estate broker. She was a member of Inverness Golf and Country Club, Beta Sigma Phi Sorority, First Presbyterian Church of Inverness, where she was past president of Presbyterian Womens Club, charter member of Floral City Garden Club, and Past Worthy Matron of Eastern Star Chapter 164. She was instrumental in organizing the Pink Ladies of the Citrus Memorial Hospital Auxiliary. Survivors include two sisters, Ruth Downey, Wilmington, N.C., and Echo Handy, Mesa, Ariz. Chas. E. TICKLER, JOHN W., 88, of Homosassa, died Friday (March 28, 2003) at Tampa General Hospital. Born in Daggett, Mich., he came here in 1979 from Black Creek, Wis. He was a road construction contractor, former Crime Watch member and Daystar volunteer, and a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, where he is an usher and sexton. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Joyce; two sons, John and Harold, both of Black Creek; a daughter, Barbara Jordano, Minnetonka, Minn.; two brothers, Earl, Baltimore, and William, Manchester, N.H.; a sister, Dorothy Meyer, Bainbridge, Wash.; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. FLETCHER, ROBERT DANIEL "BOBBY," of Plant City, died Tuesday (March 25, 2003) at his home. A native of the area, he was owner of Fletcher's Enterprise and a retired commercial fisherman. He was a retired registry clerk for the U.S. Postal Office and an Army veteran. He was an elder of First Presbyterian Church in Safety Harbor and a member of the International Lyons Foundation, the Safety Harbor Chapter of the Tampa Bay Historical Society and Caballeros de la Luz. SANCHEZ, JOSEPHINE "NITA," 76, of Tampa, died Thursday (March 27, 2003) at Memorial Hospital of Tampa. Born in Havana, Cuba, she later moved to the area. She was a homemaker. GALLUP, EVERETT KEITH, 82, of Zephyrhills, Wednesday (March 26, 2003) in Dade City. Born in Tusten, Mich., he came here in 1988 from Michigan. He was an Army veteran of World War II, and a member of Moose Lodge, D.M.V., and Trinity United Methodist Church. Born in Manhattan, N.Y., he came here 22 years ago from Franklin Square, N.Y. He was a grocery manager for Hills Supermarket in New York and an Army veteran of the Korean War. He was born in Laurel, Ohio, and came here in 1968 from Bethel, Ohio. He was a surveyor in Pinellas County for 33 years and owned and operated Tampa Bay Land Surveying. He was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War serving as 1st lieutenant. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Clearwater and American Legion. He came here in 1984 from his native Niagara Falls, N.Y., where he worked as the assistant city assessor for the City of Niagara Falls for 15 years. He also owned and operated Michael's Restaurant Niagara Falls for 15 years. He was an Army veteran and received his master's degree in economics in 1950 from Niagara University, Lewiston, N.Y. He was member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, Clearwater, and was a computer buff, belonging to several area computer groups in the area. He owned Brennan Golf Concepts, Largo, where he was also an instructor. He was contracts administrator in the aerospace industry. He was an Army Air Forces veteran of World War II, serving as staff sergeant. He received a degree in accounting from LaSalle Extension University in Illinois. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Largo, and American Legion Post 119, Largo, a former member of Toastmasters International and wrote the book, Reflexive Golf. He was a mixologist and worked in the entertainment industry. He was an Army veteran of World War II, serving in the occupation forces of Japan. He was a member of Palm Harbor United Methodist Church, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Disabled American Veterans, Lions Club, Elks Club American Legion and German American Club. She was a factory worker in the cotton and silk hosiery industry. She was Presbyterian. Survivors include a son, Harry Guscott, Gainesville; a sister, Viola Kain, Kenvil. - SPEARS, THOMAS HABROM, 79, of Pinellas Park, died Friday (March 28, 2003) at home under hospice care. Born in Gates City, Va., he came here in 1956 from Chattanooga, Tenn. He was a retired block mason. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Pinellas Park. He was a military police officer in the Army during World War II. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Anne; two sons, Thomas D., St. Petersburg, and Dennis F., Pinellas Park; a daughter, Michele Margaret Spears, Palmetto; and two grandchildren. - LOXTERMAN, PATRICIA A., 74, of St. Pete Beach, died Friday (March 28, 2003) at Palms of Pasadena Hospital, South Pasadena. She came here in 1983 from her native Pittsburgh. She was a clerk for Westinghouse Air Brake Co. for eight years. She was Presbyterian. Survivors include two sons, Daniel, Pittsburgh, and Richard, Conneautville, Pa.; a daughter, Amy Clark, Greenfield, Ind.; two brothers, Robert Armbruster, Lawrenceville, Ga., and David Armbruster, Brooklyn, N.Y.; and five grandchildren. - ANDERSON, MILDRED L. "MILLIE," 84, of St. Petersburg, died Friday (March 28, 2003) at Carrington Place Convalescent Center. She was born in Sweetwater, Tenn., and came here in 1958 from Dayton, Ohio. She was a sales clerk and department manager for 23 years with Maas Brothers department store in downtown St. Petersburg. She was a member of Fifth Avenue Baptist Church and the Celebration Sunday School Class and played piano for the Johnson Sunday School class. She also was a third-grade Sunday school teacher for many years and a member of Baptist Women. Survivors include two sons, Bennett Wayne and Larry, both of St. Petersburg; six grandchildren, Michelle Knighten, Mark Anderson and Joy Anderson, all of St. Petersburg, Robert Anderson, Brevard, N.C., Mike Anderson, Columbia, S.C., and Neil Anderson, Okeechobee. - DAVIS, MARGARET JANE CLARKE, 86, of St. Petersburg, died Tuesday (March 25, 2003) at home. Born in Philadelphia, she came here in 1939 from Manhattan. She worked at Webb's City, was a personal secretary to James Earl "Doc" Webb and worked for St. Peter's and St. Matthew's Episcopal churches for 23 years. She also was a licensed respiratory therapist. She was a member of St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, the American Association of Respiratory Therapists, a charter member of the St. Petersburg Museum of Fine Arts and a member of Friends of the Library, the Bayfront Medical Association Auxiliary and Mended Hearts Chapter 43. She was a volunteer for Meals on Wheels, Neighborhood Crime Watch, Bayfront Medical Center Pastoral Care and a five-year volunteer at the St. Petersburg Free Clinic. Survivors include a daughter, Libby Davis, St. Petersburg; two sons, Christopher Kenyon Davis, St. Petersburg, and Lance Davis, Las Vegas; two granddaughters, Christine Rice Humphries and Rita Jane Davis; and two great-granddaughters. - DENNISON, MARION D., 84, of St. Petersburg, formerly of Tampa, died Friday (March 28, 2003) at Westminster Shores Health Center. Born in Jamestown, N.Y., she moved to Tampa in 1952 and came here in 2001. She was a homemaker and Methodist. Survivors include her husband of 62 years, Harley Ray Dennison; a daughter, Sally A. - DePALMER, ANTHONY J. "TONY," 82, of St. Petersburg died Thursday (March 27, 2003). He was born in Geneva, N.Y. He moved to St. Petersburg in 1981 from Westport, Conn. He served in the Army during World War II. He worked for the city of Westport Highway Department for 30 years. He was Catholic. Survivors include two daughters, Mary E. - MITCHELL, EFFIE CLAYTON, 85, of St. Petersburg, died Friday (March 28, 2003) at Palms of Pasadena Hospital. She came here in 1922 from her native Falmouth and was a 1935 graduate of St. Petersburg High School. She and her husband, Marion L. Mitchell, owned Mitchell's Quality Meat Co. in St. Petersburg from 1950 to 1985. She was a charter member of Pasadena Baptist Church, where she was a Sunday school teacher of 4- and 5-year-olds for 30 years and helped with adult class management for an additional 20 years. At the time of her death, she was a member of Fifth Avenue Baptist Church and the Joint Heirs Sunday School class. Survivors include her husband of 61 years, Marion L. - VITO, FRANK B., 44, of St. Petersburg, died Tuesday (March 25, 2003) at Bayfront Medical Center after a motorcycle accident in St. Petersburg. Born in Rochester, N.Y., he came here in 1985. He was a St. Petersburg police officer for five years and a minor league baseball player, assistant coach and manager for the Newberg Nighthawks and played for the St. Petersburg Pelicans and Black Sox. He most recently worked for Hendricks Enterprises Investors/Realtors Inc. He played football for Syracuse University and Ashland College and was an assistant baseball coach for Eckerd College. He played softball at the Madeira Beach Recreation Center. Survivors include his parents, Toni and Ralph Vito; a brother, Ralph II; and a sister, Maritrese Monti.
