COLLINS, VANESSIA "DARLENE," 45, of Yankeetown, died Sunday (April 6, 2003) at home. Born in Gainesville, she was a lifelong resident of this area and was a retailer for the Yankeetown Shrimp and Fish Co. She was Pentecostal. DARMSTADT, ANN MARGUERITE, 96, of Beverly Hills, died Sunday (April 6, 2003) in Lecanto. Born in New York City, she came here in 1996 from Valley Cottage, N.Y. KLEMM, ROLF GERHART, 82, of Crystal River, died Saturday (April 5, 2003) at home. Born in Chemnitz, Germany, he came here in 1984 from Sarasota. He was the former co-owner of the Central Motel, Inverness, and was a retired real estate salesman. He was Protestant. McCARTY, THOMAS J. JR., 90, of Lecanto, died Monday (April 7, 2003) in Lecanto. Born in Union Hills, N.J., he came here 24 years ago from Cliffwood Beach, N.J. He was a retired purchasing agent for Aetna Steel Co., New York. He was a member of the Irish American Club, the Italian American Club, Knights of Columbus Sadlier Council 6168 and Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church, all of Beverly Hills. He was a fourth degree member of Francis Cardinal Spellman Assembly 1547. PEGLER, WERNER, 96, of Beverly Hills, died Sunday (April 6, 2003) in Crystal River. Born in Malchin, Germany, he came here in 1982 from Rochester, N.Y. WEAVER, DAURICE E., 80, of Beverly Hills, died Sunday (April 6, 2003) at Citrus Memorial Hospital in Inverness. Born in Long Beach, Calif., she came here in 1985 from Los Angeles. She was a reservationist for Trans World Airlines with more than 25 years of service. She also was an artist. She was Protestant. There are no immediate survivors. BACHMANN, EDWARD JAMES, 81, of Spring Hill, died Monday (April 7, 2003) at Oak Hill Hospital in Spring Hill. He came here more than 13 years ago from his native New York. He was a retired installer for AT&T and was a Marine Corps veteran of World War II. He was a member of Telephone Pioneers of America and the VFW Post 10209 Spring Hill. TEELE, NELLIE D., 80, of Brooksville, formerly of Dade City (Richland Community), died Monday (April 7, 2003) at home under the care of Hernando-Pasco Hospice. Born in Cullman, Ala., she came to the Dade City area in 1965, then moved to Brooksville in 1999. She was a cafeteria worker in the Palm Beach County School District. She worked in the poultry business in Masaryktown and Dade City areas. She was a member of DAVA and former board member of the Richland Fire Association. She was a member of the Richland Baptist Church. Survivors include two daughters, Jackie and Gail Foradas, both of Brooksville; a sister, Edith Self, Cullman; two aunts and two uncles; many cousins, nieces and nephews; two grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. ABELL, MURRAY R. "GUS", M.D., Ph.D., 82, of Sun City Center, died Saturday (April 5, 2003). Born in Aylmer, Ontario, he was a retired professor and physician. He was a Royal Canadian Army Medical Corps veteran and a member of the American Association of Pathologists, American Medical Association, Florida Medical Association and the American Board of Medical Specialties. He was a tester in the rope industry and a former member of Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church. LOWRY, MELVIN R., 85, of New Port Richey, died Monday (April 7, 2003) at Morton Plant North Bay Hospital, New Port Richey. Born in Swansea, Ill., he came here 23 years ago from St. Louis. He was a sales manager for East Texas Motor Freight and was an Army veteran of World War II. He served with General George Patton's 3rd Army, 706th Railway Grand Division of the Second Military Railway Service. He was a night superintendant for Eonic Corporation and was an Army and World War II veteran, achieving the rank of staff sergeant. He was a member of the Chester McKay VFW Post, American Organization, American Legion, Moose Lodge, and Elks Lodge. He was Baptist. - LATINO, CAROLINE, 103, of Whitehall, N.Y., and St. Petersburg, died Monday (April 7, 2003) at Hudson Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Highland, N.Y. She was born in Fondi, Italy. She worked at Silk Mill and Coat Factory in Whitehall, N.Y. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in St. Petersburg and sang in the choir. In 1995 she received the St. Mary's Parish award as an outstanding parishioner and an award from the city of St. Petersburg for community service. - MOODY, STEVEN A. "MOO," 49, of Oldsmar, formerly of St. Petersburg, died Tuesday (April 1, 2003) at Hospice House Woodside, Pinellas Park. He was born in Newfoundland and came here in 1973 from Germany, where he attended Schiller College, Berlin. He graduated in 1975 from University of South Florida and worked three years in the Peace Corps, serving in Jamaica. He worked for the Children's Home Society and the Florida Sheriffs Youth Ranch and for the past 10 years was a behavior specialist at the Richard L. Sanders Exceptional Education Center in Pinellas Park. Survivors include a sister, Elizabeth A. Moody, Altamonte Springs. Osgood-Cloud Funeral Home and Cremation Services, Pinellas Park.
- PIERCE, HOWARD J., 78, of St. Petersburg, died Sunday (April 6, 2003) at the VA Medical Center at Bay Pines. Born in Richmond, Vt., he came here in 1972 from White River Junction, Vt. He worked for Pet Dairy in St. Petersburg. He was a World War II Army veteran and received the Purple Heart. Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Doris Westover Pierce; two sons, Kenny, White River Junction, and Richard, Greenback, Tenn.; three daughters, Janice Marie Robinson and Louise Miller, both of St. Petersburg, and Paula Sawyer, Windsor, Vt.; a brother, Bill Pierce, Bradenton; a sister, Ethel Woodward, Milford, N.H., 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter. - REES, VICTOR P., 65, of St. Petersburg, died Sunday (April 6, 2003) at Bayfront Medical Center as the result of a motorcycle accident. Born in Wilmington, Del., he came here in 1946. He was a self-employed tile setter and a National Guard veteran. He was a member in the 1960s of the Jokers social club. Survivors include his wife, Laura; two sons, Mark Rees, Bend, Ore., and Douglas Beckwith, St. Petersburg; a daughter, Vickie Strelioff, Woodland Hills, Calif.; his mother, Eleanor Hollingsworth, St. Petersburg, two sisters, Jill Hollingsworth, Greensboro, N.C., and Becky Hollingsworth, Atlanta; and two grandchildren. - ROUTA, TEREZIE, 87, of St. Petersburg, died Monday (April 7, 2003) at home. Born in Czechoslovakia, she came here in 1965 from Washington, D.C. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Raphael's Catholic Church. She retired in 1990 after 20 years as a sales representative in the St. Petersburg Times classified department. She was a former real estate agent for Tourtelot Brothers Realty in St. Petersburg. She enjoyed ceramics and camping.
