Few Web sites are more tempting to rooters than those offering searchable databases and clues to securing elusive foreign records. That's because we're hoping to find a magic shortcut that will save us hours of trolling through faded microfilm and writing to bureaucrats who wish we'd just go away.

Genealogy classes at Museum of History
Donna Murray Allen, genealogy columnist for the St. Petersburg Times, will present a three-part genealogy series from 9 a.m. to noon on three consecutive Saturdays at the St. Petersburg Museum of History on the approach to the Pier. The classes, which take place May 3, 10 and 17, will focus on research techniques for beginning and intermediate genealogists. The series is co-sponsored by Eckerd College.
