Army Cpl. Kenneth E. Banes, son of Julie and Joseph James of Seminole, recently earned the Bronze Star while serving in Afghanistan as a Tactical Area Control Team chief with a Special Forces unit. He is currently stationed at Fort Bragg with the 82nd Airborne, 1st and 58th Aviation Group, Bravo Co., where he is in Leadership Development Training and plans to go on to Warrant Officer's School. He hopes to learn to fly Black Hawk helicopters and then fixed wing planes.

Lake project must not disturb eagles
St. Petersburg is very fortunate to have a pair of American bald eagles and their three fledglings nesting at Boyd Hill Nature Park. During a public hearing in November, the city promised to protect the eagles during the proposed Lake Maggiore dredge and cleanup project. The city needs to live up to its promise. Let's not throw the babies out with the bathwater.
