BRYANT, CURTISS OWEN, 42, of Dunnellon, died Friday (Aug. 8, 2003) at Munroe Regional Medical Center in Ocala as a result of an automobile-bicycle accident. Born in California, he came here 15 years ago from Brookfield, Conn. He was a computer technician and Protestant. Survivors include two sons, Curtiss Jr., and Cliffton, both of Inverness; two daughters, Elizabeth and Raven Hopper, both of Hernando; his mother, Marjorie Ingram Bryant, Goldsboro, N.C.; three brothers, Charles III, Guilford, Conn., Craig, Goldsboro, N.C., and Carey, Inverness; two sisters, Linda Cornell, Cumming Ga., and Charlotte Graham, Trumbull, Conn.; and several nieces and nephews. RAMIREZ, MARIA S., died Thursday (Aug. 7, 2003) at Citrus Memorial Hospital, Inverness. Born in Venezuela, she came here in 1975 from New York City. REDDING, LAWRENCE W., 90, of Lecanto, died Friday (Aug. 8, 2003) in Lecanto. Born in Palm Bay, he came here 25 years ago from Fellsmere. He was retired after 25 years of service as a ramp service supervisor with Eastern Airline, and an Army veteran of World War II, serving with the 103rd Coast Artillery 45th Division. He was a member of Church of God, Crystal River. Survivors include two sons, Rodney, Lecanto, Lewis Martin, Crystal River, and Ralph, Brooksville; a brother, Joffery, Miami; a sister, Collene Redding, Fort Pierce; and 19 grandchildren. LATONA, EDITH I., 80, of Spring Hill, died Wednesday (Aug. 6, 2003) at Carol Martin ALF, Spring Hill. She came here from her native Newark, N.J. She was a retired social worker and Catholic. Survivors include her husband, Albert; a daughter, Patricia Addonizio, New York; and two sisters, Ann Defino, West Palm Beach, and Dorie Risden, Delaware. National Cremation Society, Brooksville.
MASCIA, LARRY J. JR., 78, of Clearwater, formerly of Spring Hill, died Sunday (Aug. 3, 2003) at Mease Hospital, Dunedin. Born in Altoona, Pa., he came here six years ago from Clearwater. A Navy veteran of World War II, he was trained in England with the OSS and was one of the first men to use the newly developed scuba gear. After leaving the Navy, he ran a theatrical booking agency in Altoona, worked for U.S. Steel, and became a Pennsylvania State Constable. He was appointed an Honorary Constable in Surrey, England, by Queen Elizabeth during an exchange program. He was a Democratic Committeeman and Chairman of the Democratic Organization in Bristol Township, Pa., a member and Past Grand Commander of the Al Fath Caravan 126 of Alhambra. PATTERSON, ROBERT, 87, of Spring Hill, died Wednesday (Aug. 6, 2003) at home. Born in Boston, he was a veteran of World War II, Presbyterian, and a member of Massachusetts Masonic Lodge. Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Mary; four sons, Robert, Toledo, Ohio, Richard, Elk Grove, California, Roger, Las Vegas, and Randall, Palm Bay; two brothers, Harold "Red," Massachusetts, and William "Pete," New Hampshire; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren. ROMANOWSKI, STANLEY JOHN, 80, of Masaryktown, died Thursday (Aug. 7, 2003) at Spring Hill Regional Hospital. Born in Chicago, he came here 17 years ago from Fennville, Mich. He was a painter, retired from Chris Craft Corporation, Holland, Mich., and was Catholic. Survivors include his wife, Edith; sons, Stanley, Oklahoma, and Robert, Algonquin, Ill.; a brother, Edward, Noridge, Ill.; sisters, Jean Crowe, Brooksville, and Helen Nalivorski, Centralia, Ill.; four grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. BRUNET-ALVAREZ, JOSE, 89, of Tampa, died Saturday (Aug. 2, 2003) at University Community Hospital. He was born in Puerto Rico and moved to the Tampa area from Catano, Puerto Rico, several years ago. KOPERSKI, EVELYN R., 87, of Holiday, died Thursday (Aug. 7, 2003) at home. Born in Northfield, N.J., she came here in 1986 from Lanark Village. She retired after 37 years of service as a public school nurse for the Panama Canal Zone School System. She was one of the founders and past president of The Canal Zone Nurses Union, and a member of the Panama Canal Society and St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. KRAKOWER, BERNARD J., 87, of Bayonet Point, died Friday (Aug. 8, 2003) at Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point. Born in New York City, he came here 26 years ago from Staten Island, N.Y. He worked for a sanitation department, was a Golden Gloves Boxing Champ, Horseshoe Champion in New York eight years in a row, and was an avid bowler. He was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church. SHUMWAY, FRANK E. SR., 81, of Holiday, died Friday (Aug. 8, 2003) at Helen Ellis Memorial Hospital, Tarpon Springs. Born in North Hampton, Mass., he came here in 1985 from Burlington, Vt. He retired in 1982 as Athletic Director for Northeastern Clinton Central High School, Champlain, N.Y., after 15 years of service and was an Army veteran of World War II. She was born in Hazlehurst, Ga., she moved to the area in 1931 from Alabama. She was a homemaker and a member of Pace United Methodist Church and Dunedin United Methodist Church. - WASHINGTON, RUBEN "DISCO BANG," 46, of Clearwater, died Wednesday (Aug. 6, 2003) at Clearwater Center. He was a native and lifelong resident of Clearwater. He worked the concession stand at Jack Russell Stadium during the Phillies spring training and was a disc jockey at private social events. He was born in Tiffin, Ohio, and came here in 1999 from Columbus, Ohio, where he worked as an account executive for Ohio Bell and retired after 35 years of service. - DONOVAN, ROBERT JOHN, 90, of St. Petersburg, died Friday (Aug. 8, 2003) at Bayfront Medical Center. Born in Buffalo, N.Y., he was a seasonal resident since 1993 and moved here permanently in 2001 from Washington, D.C. He was a journalist and author, serving as chief of the Washington bureau of the Los Angeles Times and New York Herald Tribune. He also was president of the White House Correspondents Association and a former member of the National Press Club. He was a member of the Gridiron Club in Washington, D.C., and the Isla Del Sol Yacht and Country Club. - ZELLNER, BERT, 93, of St. Petersburg, died Friday (Aug. 8, 2003) at home. He came here 36 years ago from his native Junction City, Kan., where he was a member of the civil service. He was a member of St. James United Methodist Church in St. Petersburg, OES Adah Chapter 219 and Largo Court of the Amaranth. - MARVIN, SHIRLEY SCHALK, 79, of Seminole, died Friday (Aug. 8, 2003). Born in Cincinnati, she lived in Pinellas County for 35 years. She retired from Pinellas County schools in 1992 after 19 years of service. She also worked as a clerk typist for the FBI in Washington, D.C., and was a keypunch operator for the American Research Bureau in Beltsville, Md. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Pinellas Park, the Florida West Coast Chapter of the Coca-Cola Collectors Club, the Pinellas Park Woman Club, the Suncoast Council of Girl Scouts USA and OES since 1960. She earned a student pilot license. Survivors include two daughters, Linda Marvin, Las Vegas, and Cynthia Ivey, Sugar Land, Texas; a son, Nelson Marvin Jr., Sanford; and four grandchildren. - PALMER, IRENE McHALE, 97, of Seminole, formerly of Treasure Island, died Friday (Aug. 8, 2003). Born in Port Leyden, N.Y., she came here in 1971 from Syracuse, N.Y. She was a bookkeeper and secretary. She was a member of St. John's Catholic Church and Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. She was a member of the Treasure Island Rockettes and the Treasure Island Rose Society. She was a judge in rode competitions. She enjoyed reading, gardening and crocheting. Survivors include a caregiver, Grace Mokrzycki, Largo. Beach Memorial Chapel, St. Pete Beach.
- SCHLAPPICH, CAROLYN ANN, 68, of Seminole, died Wednesday (Aug. 6, 2003) at Hospice House Woodside, Pinellas Park. Born in West Lawn, Pa., she came here in 1989 from Robisonia, Pa. She was a retired switchboard operator for St. Anthony's Medical Building in St. Petersburg. She was Protestant. Survivors include her husband of 50 years, Harvey; a son, Frederick, Reading, Pa.; a daughter, Kim Roux, Lancaster, Pa.; a sister, Doris Hepler, Reading; two grandsons, Jeffrey and Mitchell Houston, Clearwater; and a granddaughter; and two great-grandchildren. - VOURGARAKIS, ATHENA, 85, of South Pasadena, died Tuesday (Aug. 5, 2003) at Palms of Pasadena Hospital, South Pasadena. Born in Bridgewater, Mass., she came here in 2001 from Manchester, N.H. She was a member of St. Stefanos Greek Orthodox Church in St. Petersburg, and Assumption Greek Orthodox Church, Manchester, N.H., where she was a member of the Ladies Philoptochos Society, Daughters of Penelope, the Pan Macedonian Association of USA and Canada, where she served as vice president of the Alexandros Chapter and as a delegate at international conventions. She was an avid traveler. Survivors include her husband, Costas; and two sisters, Androniki Triantafilou, St. Pete Beach, and Areti Nikolaki, Greece. David C.
