  • DELANO, THOMAS FRANCIS "TOM," 60, of Inverness, formerly of New Port Richey, died Friday (Aug. 15, 2003) at Hernando-Pasco Hospice Care Center, New Port Richey. Born in Queens, N.Y., he came here 16 years ago from New Port Richey. He was an Army and Navy veteran of the Vietnam War and was Catholic. He was a member of VFW Post 4337, DAV Post 70 and Eagles Aeries 3992.   • DOWNUM, FREDDIE LEE, 80, of Homosassa, died Thursday (Aug. 14, 2003) at Seven Rivers Community Hospital, Crystal River. Born in Baldwinsville, N.Y., he came here 17 years ago from Fame, Okla. He was a retired parts manager for the Lawson Co., New York, an Army Air Forces veteran of World War II and a member of American Legion, New York. Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Juanita; a son, Wayne, Metairie, La.; four daughters, Dorine Downum and Leslie Downum, both of Homosassa, Debra Vastine, Central Square, N.Y., and Denise Downum, North Syracuse, N.Y.; two brothers, Thurman, Monterey, Calif., and Robert, Las Vegas; two sisters, Patsy Rumsey, Moore, Okla., and Freida, California; 13 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.   • GAS, STANLEY F., 78, of Beverly Hills, died Friday (Aug. 15, 2003) in Inverness. He retired after 38 years of service as a turn foreman with Republic Steel in Chicago and was an Army veteran of World War II. He was a member of the 180th Infantry Regiment and received the Purple Heart with Two Oak Leaf Clusters and four Bronze Stars. He was a member of DAV, a life member of VFW Harry F. Nesbitt Post 10087 and a member of the Beverly Hills Fishing Club and the Polish Social Club. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Lorraine; a daughter, Denise Barajas, Dyer, Ind.; a son, Stanley, Chicago; a sister, Mary Tomaka, Dalton, Ill.; a brother, John, Chicago; five grandchildren; a great-grandson; and many nephews and nieces.   • ROCKWELL, LYNN MASON, 78, of Lecanto, died Thursday (Aug. 14, 2003) in Lecanto. Born in Altadena, Calif., he came here in 1970 from California. He was a musician who had his own one-man band called Rockwell Brothers Orchestra. We also was a music teacher and piano tuner. He arranged music for and appeared with Tony Bennett, Henry Busse, Helen O'Connell, Clyde McCoy, Russ Morgan, Jack Teagarden, Vaughn Monroe and Jack Morgan. He worked on Stage Productions with Jack Hope. He was a Navy veteran of World War II, serving on the USS Saratoga in Japan. He also served as a medical coreman and received the Rotary Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Medal and the Korean War Medal. At the age of 6, he danced and appeared in movies with Shirley Temple and in the Little Rascals films, and at 12 he played in his first band. He was ranked a Master Chessman in the US Chess Club and attended Heritage Baptist Church of Beverly Hills.   • PERROTTA, JOSEPH L., 79, of Spring Hill, died Tuesday (Aug. 12, 2003) at Spring Hill Regional Hospital. Born in New York City, he came here 10 years ago from Staten Island, N.Y. He graduated from St. John's University with a degree in biochemistry, spent several years in the marketing industry and then in the graphic arts industry. He was a trumpet player, a partner with the Jerome Callet Custom Trumpet Co. until 1997 and cofounded the Hernando Jazz Society. Survivors include his wife, Gloria; a son, Joseph, Staten Island; two daughters, Valerie Barile, Staten Island, and Lynn Martinez, Norcross, Ga.; and five grandchildren.   • BECCARI, LISA J., 36, of Brooksville, died Sunday (August 10, 2003) at Tampa General Hospital. Born in Paterson, N.J., she moved here 22 years ago from Cape Coral. She worked as a chef.   • McDONOUGH, THOMAS EDWARD, 54, of Brandon, died Wednesday (August 13, 2003) at his home. Born in Uniontown, Pa., he moved here 19 years ago from England. He worked as a warehouse supervisor.   • McDONALD, GLADYS "GLAD," 79, of Tampa, died Thursday (August 14, 2003). A longtime resident of Tampa, she attended nursing school and served on a hospital ship during World War II.   • GALLAGHER, JOHN L. "JACK,' 72, of Holiday, died Thursday (Aug. 14, 2003) at Community Hospital of New Port Richey. Born in Northampton, Pa., he came here in 1994 from Danbury, Conn. He was an ordained minister with Evangelical Lutheran Church of America, serving in St. Petersburg area churches for the past five years, the last two years with the Church of Christ Lutheran Church in St. Petersburg. He earned his Bachelor's Degree of Divinity from the Lutheran Theological Seminary, Philadelphia, and was ordained in 1955. He served in six states and Puerto Rico. She was retired after 25 years of service as a sewbar operator for Arrow Clothing Manufacturer in Garfield, N.J. She was Catholic and an avid bingo player at St. James the Apostle Catholic Church.   • STEIGER, NORMAN C., 80, of Safety Harbor, formerly of New Port Richey, died Wednesday (Aug. 13, 2003) at home under the care of Hospice of the Florida Suncoast. He was born in Buffalo, N.Y. He moved to New Port Richey in 1983 after retiring and moved to Safety Harbor earlier this year. He worked more than 40 years for New York Telephone Co. He was an Army Air Corps veteran of World War II. He was Lutheran and a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, New Port Richey, and Telephone Pioneers of America.     • CURTIS, JEAN H., 87, of Belleair, died Tuesday (Aug. 12, 2003) at Sun Coast Hospital, Largo. She was born in Orange, Mass., and came here in 1976 from Miami, where she had worked since 1958 in the interior design department of the Jordan Marsh store on Biscayne Boulevard. She owned Jean's Locker Antiques in Belleair. She formed the West Coast Chapter of the National Home Fashion League in Clearwater and was a member of the Miami chapter. She was a member of Ladies of Royalty, an organization that supports the Royalty Theatre in Clearwater. Survivors include her husband, John; a son, Allen Hornbrook, Pensacola; a daughter, Diedre Lyne, Orlando; five grandchildren; and three great-granddaughters. She worked as a housekeeper for the Travelodge Hotel in downtown Clearwater. She attended St. Cecelia Catholic Church, Clearwater.     • McNALLY, SALLY, 70, of Clearwater, died Sunday (Aug. 10, 2003) at home. She was born in Potter County, Texas, and came here in 1989 from Inkster, Mich. She worked as a nurse for 40 years. She was Christian and was an Army veteran of the Vietnam War, reaching the rank of captain during her five years of service.     • PALAZZO, JAMES VINCENT, 82, of Clearwater, died Wednesday (Aug 13, 2003) at Mease Dunedin Hospital. He was born in Manhattan, N.Y., and came here in 1976 from New York City. He worked as a salesman for Eldridge Fine Jewelry, Clearwater, and was national sales manager for Tires, Inc. of New York. He was Catholic and a member of the Italian-American Club of Clearwater.     • BRINCH, ERIK, 76, of Dunedin, died Thursday (Aug. 14, 2003) at Mease Dunedin Hospital. He was born in Copenhagen, Denmark, and came here in 1998 after retiring. He was a graduate of Cambridge University, London. He operated his own commodities brokerage firm in Copenhagen and then moved to the United States in 1965 and worked for E.F. Hutton in Washington, D.C. He later started a business, Danish Contractors, in Bethesda, Md. He was a member of Steven Ministry at Grace Lutheran Church, Clearwater. He was a hospice volunteer and a volunteer chaplain visitor at Mease Dunedin Hospital. Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Kirsten; three daughters, Anne Elizabeth Hardy, Clearwater, Bettina Bruck, Orlando, and Benedikte Shafer, Damascus, Md.; three sisters, Kirsten Hedegaard, Gerda Brinch and Lene Brinch, all of Copenhagen; and six grandchildren.     • COOPER, WILLIAM C. JR., 74, of Largo, died Saturday (Aug. 9, 2003) at Morton Plant Hospital, Clearwater. He was born in Philadelphia and came here in 1989 from Swiftwater, Pa., where he co-owned Swiftwater Inn. He was Catholic. Survivors include three sons, William C. III, Newark, Del., Dan, South Carolina, and John, Swiftwater; two daughters, Donna Cooper, East Stroudsburg, Pa., and Ophelia Cooper, Macon, Ga.; a sister, Mary Jane Moore, Williamsport, Pa.; a brother, Jim, Pennsylvania; 11 grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.     • KNUTSON, SARA M., 81, of Largo, died Saturday (Aug. 16, 2003) at home. She was born in Dade City and was a lifelong area resident. She was a social work supervisor for the state of Florida. She was a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church, Largo, and the Largo Women's Club. She was a graduate of Florida State College for Women. She was a member of the Clearwater Parliamentarians, Pinecrest Women's Golf Association and the United Daughters of the Confederacy Mary Curtis Chapter. She was a fifth generation member of the Huckabay family, who were Pasco County pioneers.     • McGRATTAN, NORMAN B., 56, of Largo, formerly of Belleair, died Thursday (Aug. 14, 2003) at Morton Plant Hospital, Clearwater, He was born in Buffalo, N.Y., came to Belleair in 1969 and moved to Largo two years ago. He was a former volunteer firefighter for the Town of Belleair and was an avid collector of antiques, coins and stamps. He was Presbyterian. Survivors include his mother, Marcia B., Belleair; a sister, Sue M. Williams, Buffalo, N.Y.; a son, Thomas R., Largo; three daughters, Lori B. Russell and Marci B.     • TROMBITAS, GERMAINE I. "GERRY," 91, of Largo, died Wednesday (Aug 13, 2003) at Largo Healthcare Center. She was born in Bromptonville, Quebec, and came here in the 1970s from Danbury, Conn., where she owned and operated the Clam Shack restaurant for six years. She was a member of Cathedral of St. Jude the Apostle, St. Petersburg. She enjoyed camping and doing crafts.     • WOODRUFF, RALPH "WOODY," 82, of Palm Harbor, died Wednesday (Aug 13, 2003) at Countryside Health Care Center, Palm Harbor. He was born in Westfield, N.J. and was an Army veteran of World War II. Survivors include his wife, Genevieve; a son, Tom; three daughters, Linda Pielka, Susan Woodruff and Kim Mulligan; two sisters Irma Keldsen, and Joyce Saxe; and five grandchildren.     • GARRICK, SARAH E. JOHNS, 89, of Lecanto, formerly of Tarpon Springs, and St. Petersburg, died Friday (Aug. 15, 2003) at home under the care of Hospice of the Florida Suncoast. She was born in St. Petersburg, moved to Tarpon Springs in 1933 and moved to Lecanto in 1989. She owned Humpty Dumpty Day Care in Anclote for 30 years. She was past Worthy Matron of OES Electra Chapter 18. Survivors include a sister, Helen Taylor, Ocala; five grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.     • NYE, GEORGE L., 71, of Tarpon Springs, died Thursday (Aug. 14, 2003) at Mease Dunedin Hospital. He was born in Roxbury, Mass., and came here in 1992 from Beacon Falls, Conn. He was a truck driver for Borden Co. and Drake Cake Co. and was a member of the Teamsters Union for 30 years. He was a Navy veteran of the Korean War. He was a member of Palm Harbor United Methodist Church, a life member of DAV Chapter 103, Dunedin, and a member of Elks Lodge 1525, Dunedin, and American Legion Post 173, Holiday. He was treasurer of the recreation board at Woods of Anderson Park for seven years. Survivors include his wife, Edith L.; two daughters, Patti Brooks, Dunedin, Judy Peters, Palm Harbor; a brother, Henry Frangel, Natick, Mass.; two grandsons; and a great-grandson. She was a waitress for the Maas Brothers restaurant. She attended Cornerstone Community Church. Survivors include a daughter, Diane F.     • BLANCHARD, MICHAEL J., 77, of St. Petersburg, died Friday (Aug. 15, 2003) at Largo Medical Center. Born in Canada, he came here in 1975 from Sarnia, Ontario. He played trumpet with the Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey orchestras and Frank Sinatra. Locally, he performed as Mike and the Silver Cornets. He also was a member of the American Legion, the Royal Canadian Legion and the Navy Veterans Association. Survivors include his wife, June; a son, Mark, Vancouver Island, British Columbia; a stepson, Church Dunn, Port Huron, Mich.; two stepdaughters, Barbara Duda, Port Huron, and Judy Smith, St. Petersburg; 19 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren. Born in Wadley, Ga., she came here in 1944 from Lakeland. She graduated from McIver Beauty School in St. Petersburg and owned her own beauty shop for more than 10 years.     • GANTER, FLORENCE WILBUR, 89, of Endicott, N.Y., formerly of St. Petersburg, died Thursday (Aug. 14, 2003) at Wilson Memorial Hospital, Johnson City, N.Y. Born in Watertown, N.Y., she lived here for 20 years and moved to Endicott in 2000. She was a teacher for 25 years. She was a 1934 graduate of Potsdam Normal School for Teachers. She received a bachelor of science degree in education and sociology from Buffalo State University and completed graduate studies at Syracuse University. She was a member of Daughters of the American Revolution Princess Hirihigua Chapter, the American Association of University Women, the New York State Teachers Association and the National Education Association.     • HAVARD, WARREN JESSIE JR., 82, of St. Petersburg, died Thursday (Aug. 14, 2003) at the Bay Pines VA Medical Center. He came here in 1983 from his native Philadelphia, where he was a supervisor of construction for the city. He was a World War II Army veteran. He was a member of St. Bede's Episcopal Church and a life member of American Legion 273. Survivors include a daughter, Cynthia Havard, St. Pete Beach. E.     • LUNDY, NAZAREE A., 60, of Sarasota, formerly of St. Petersburg, died Wednesday (Aug. 13, 2003) at home. Born in Williamson, Ga., she came here in 1962, moved to Fort Lauderdale in 1985 and to Sarasota in 1990. She was a retired bank teller and a member of DeSoto Congregation of Jehovah's Witnesses. Survivors include her husband, Jerome; three daughters, Toy Smith, Sarasota, and Tammy Thomas and Tasha Smith, both of St. Petersburg; a son, Terrick Smith, St. Petersburg; her mother, Irene Scarborough, Tampa; a sister, Dorothy Jean Atkins, Tampa; and a brother, Gideon Henley Jr., Griffin, Ga.; and four grandchildren.     • BLANCHARD, GEORGE A., 75, of Seminole, died Thursday (Aug. 14, 2003) at home. Born in Chicago, he came here in 1967 from Saginaw, Mich. He retired from the Marine Corps after serving in the Korean and Vietnam wars. He was a supervisor of maintenance at University General Hospital in Seminole. He was a member of the Fleet Marine Reserve Association. Survivors include a son, Mark, Seminole; two daughters, Barbara Boldebuck, Travers City, Mich., and Nancy Memorgandie, Las Vegas; and 12 grandchildren. Lewis W.
