BOWERS, GEORGE FRANCIS, 90, of Citrus Hills, died Sunday (Aug. 10, 2003) at Citrus Memorial Hospital, Inverness. Born in Somerville, Mass., he came here in 1999 from Bedford, N.H. He was co-owner and operator of gas and fuel oil stations and an avid golfer. Survivors include his wife, Magdalen; two sons, Richard, Margate, and George III, Virginia; two daughters, Linda Hacking, Manchester, N.H., and Sandy Bedford, New Hampshire; four stepsons, Albert Lindsell, Richard Lindsell, Fred Lindsell and Robert Lindsell; two stepdaughters, Emmalyn Hunt and Jody; a brother, Bill, Bedford, Mass.; a sister, Grace Isenhower, New Hampshire; a granddaughter; and several great-grandchildren. GRACY, WALTER D., 94, of Spring Hill, died Saturday (Aug. 16, 2003) in Dunedin. Born in Monongah, W.Va., he came here in 1979. He was a retired manager for Fairmont Wall Plaster Co., West Virginia, and an active member of St. Peter's and Immaculate Conception Catholic churches in Fairmont, and later of St. Theresa Catholic Church, Spring Hill. He served as president of the Holy Name Society of the Diocese in Wheeling, W.Va., from 1962 to 1964 and was named Catholic Layman of the Year for the Diocese of Wheeling in 1964. He served as Faithful Navigator for the Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, Clarksburg, W.Va., and Spring Hill. Survivors include three children, Blanche Weaver, California, Dr. John Gracy, Inverness, and Gregory Gracy, Dunedin; 12 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren. LOWING, SHARON E., 58, of Inverness, died Friday (Aug. 15, 2003) at Munroe Regional Medical Center, Ocala. Born in Rhode Island, she moved from Tampa to Peachtree City, Ga., and then cam e here in 1980. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Scholastica Catholic Church, Lecanto. Survivors include her husband of 39 years, David; two daughters, Deborah Lowing, Spring Hill, and Denette Floud, Inverness; a son, David, Westminster, S.C.; and six grandchildren. Chas. E. CONCANNON, SARAH "SALLY," 89, of Spring Hill, formerly of Clearwater, died Friday (Aug. 15, 2003) at home. Born in Brooklyn, N.Y., she came here in 1988 from Clearwater. She was a member of St. Theresa Catholic Church and the Woman's Guild of St. Cecelia Catholic Church. CRAWLEY, PETER LEWIS, 69, of Spring Hill, died Friday (Aug. 15, 2003) at Evergreen Woods Health and Rehabilitation Center. Born in Detroit, he came here three weeks ago from Ruskin. He was an avid golfer and was Protestant. HAMM, PATRICIA ANN, 65, of Spring Hill, died Saturday (Aug. 16, 2003) at Regional Medical Center Bayonet Point. Born in Abington, Pa., she came here 17 years ago from Waterford, Conn. She was an accountant with the U. S. government at the U.S. Naval Station at Groton, Conn., and owned an antique store with her husband. She was Catholic. Survivors include her husband, Abraham "Abe"; a daughter, Regina Craig, Seattle; a son, Karl, Montville, Conn.; five sisters, Helen, Lila, Mary, Ruth and Regina; and four brothers, Jimmie, Eddie, Frank and Tom. OLEWINE, GEORGE J., 66, of Brooksville, died Saturday (Aug. 16, 2003) at Hernando-Pasco Hospice Care Center, Brooksville. Born in Altoona, Pa., he came here 16 years ago from Buffalo, N.Y. He was a retired production employee for the Ford Motor Co. and a member of St. John's Episcopal Church, Brooksville. KNOWLES, LUEWANZA HARTLEY, 80, of Riverview, died Saturday (August 16, 2003). Born in Tampa, she was a lifelong area resident. She worked as a grocery store deli clerk and was a member of the Murphy family, a pioneer Hillsborough County family. CLINE, HARRY WILLIAM SR., 78, of New Port Richey, died Sunday (Aug. 17, 2003) at home. Born in Kendallville, Ind., he came here five years ago from Plant City. He was a sales manager with Stalmaker Farm and Ranch Supply, Tampa, and an Army veteran of World War II. He was a Gators fan and a member of Church of Christ. DELANO, THOMAS FRANCIS "TOM," 60, of Inverness, formerly of New Port Richey, died Friday (Aug. 15, 2003) at Hernando-Pasco Hospice Care Center, New Port Richey. Born in Queens, N.Y., he came here 16 years ago from New Port Richey. He was an Army and Navy veteran of Vietnam and was Catholic. ROSS, JOHN JOSEPH, 89, of Port Richey, died Saturday (Aug. 16, 2003) at Morton Plant North Bay Hospital, New Port Richey. Born in West Aliquippa, Pa., he came here from Aliquippa, Pa. He was retired after 43 years of service as foreman of Coal Landing & Docks for J & L Steel Mill. He was a member of The Cares Senior Center and St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church, Hudson. - LAW, VINCENT O. JR. "BEAU," 78, of Clearwater, died Saturday (Aug. 16, 2003) at home under the care of Hospice of the Florida Suncoast. He was born in St. Paul, Minn., and came here in 1996 from Charleston, S.C. He was an entrepreneur and owned and operated several businesses, including feldspar mining, heavy manufacturing and oil exploration companies, a chain of gasoline stations and a commercial printing company. During the 1950s and 60s he worked for Pan American World Airways. He was an Army veteran of World War II, where he served in the Solomon Islands campaign. - ROWE, OLIA J., 96, of Clearwater, died Friday (Aug. 15, 2003) at Bayview Gardens Retirement Village. She was born in Prince Edward Island, Canada, and came here in 1968 from Boston. She was a retired private duty registered nurse. She was a member of Peace Memorial Presbyterian Church, Clearwater. Survivors include several nephews, including David MacLean, Halifax, Nova Scotia; and several nieces, including Helen Rogers and Cindy Butler, both of British Columbia. - WAHL, HELEN E., 82, of Clearwater, died Friday (Aug. 15, 2003) at Morton Plant Hospital, Clearwater. She was born in Bloomington, Ind., and came here in 1959 from northern Indiana. She was a secretary at Largo Central Elementary School for 25 years. She was a member of First Christian Church of Bloomington and the Largo Ladies Retirement Group. She was a volunteer at both Eckerd Hall and the International Museum in St. Petersburg. - HIRST, LOTTIE M., 94, of Largo, died Saturday (Aug. 16, 2003) at Mariner Health Care of Belleair. She was born in Vineland, N.J., and came here in 1964 from Summit, N.J. She was a member of Church of the Isles Congregational, Indian Rocks Beach, and the church's Hannah Circle. She was a member of the Largo Women's Club, Belleair Bluffs Fireman's Auxiliary and the Busy Bees of Belleair. - HUMES, EDWARD E. JR. "BIG ED," 59, of Largo, died Thursday (Aug. 14, 2003) at Bay Pines VA Medical Center. He was born in Freeport, N.Y., and came here in 1993 from Fort Lauderdale, where he owned and operated the Beau Rivage II Marina. He was a former member of the Freeport Volunteer Fire Department, Hose 4. He was a 27-year member and instructor of Alcoholics Anonymous and Narcotics Anonymous. He volunteered for the Pinellas County Supervisor of Elections and as a sound and electrical technician for the Largo Theater. He was a Navy veteran of the Vietnam War and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion. Survivors include three daughters, Pamela Hassett, Clearwater, Darlene Humes, Tannersville, N.Y., and Renay Dubay, Boca Raton; two sons, Edward E. She was a graduate of Knoxville Business College and retired from the federal government as a payroll supervisor for the U.S Army at Fort Belvoir, Va. She was a homemaker and worked a few years as a professional artist. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed cooking and crocheting. She was a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church, Largo. Survivors include a daughter, Christina K. Cosdon, Largo; a sister, Mary Bob Edwards, Coronado, Calif.; several cousins; and numerous nieces and nephews. - MARONEY, DR. JOHN A., of Oldsmar, died Saturday (Aug. 16, 2003) at home. He was born in Boston and came here in 1988 from Worcester, Mass., where he was a private practice thoracic and general surgeon. He graduated from Tufts University School of Medicine and attended Harvard University. He was chief of surgery for 26 years at Worcester (Mass.) City Hospital. He was an Army Medical Corps veteran of World War II and served at the Normandy landing at Utah Beach. He also served during and after the war as surgeon in chief at the U.S. Army Hospital in Anniston, Ala. He was past president and secretary of Worcester Medical Society, secretary of the Alumnae Association for 40 years at Worcester City Hospital and editor of the Worcester Medical News for many years. Survivors include his longtime companion, Edythe Armstrong; two sisters; and several nieces and nephews, all in California. Holloway Funeral Home, Oldsmar.

- COHEN, BRADLEY DAVID, 53, of Palm Harbor, died Saturday (Aug. 16, 2003) at Helen Ellis Memorial Hospital, Tarpon Springs. He came here in 1997 from his native Brooklyn, N.Y., and worked as a sales trainer for an automobile company. - STEIGER, NORMAN C., 80, of Safety Harbor, died Wednesday (Aug. 13, 2003) at home under the care of Hospice of the Florida Suncoast. He came here in 1983 from his native Buffalo, N.Y., where he worked 42 years as a communications consultant for New York Telephone. He was an Army Air Forces veteran of World War II. He was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church of New Port Richey and Telephone Pioneers of America. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Hildegarde; two sons, Richard, Safety Harbor, and Gary, Buffalo; a daughter, Lynn Karaszewski, Atlanta; seven grandchildren; and a great-grandchild. - DODD, DR. WILLIAM ANTHONY, 90, of Dunedin, died Saturday (Aug. 16, 2003) at home. He was born in Baltimore and came here in 1980 from Sea Island, Ga., . He graduated from the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy in 1934 and from the college's School of Medicine in 1938. He was a private practice obstetrical and gynecological physician from 1946 to 1960 in Baltimore, and served as chief of obstetrics and gynecology at St. Joseph's Hospital, Baltimore. He was an Army Medical Corps veteran of World War II with the rank of major, and served as chief of obstetrics and gynecology at the Army's Bolling Field Station Hospital, Washington, D.C. He was a founding fellow of the American College of Obstetrics and Gynecology, a diplomate of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology, and a former affiliate member of the Royal Society of Medicine of the United Kingdom. He was a member of several medical associations, including the American Medical Association, the Southern Medical Association and the American College of Surgeons. In 1978, he received the AMA Appreciation Award. He was a member of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, Dunedin. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Louise; two sons, William A. Jr., Clearwater, and Dr. Michael J., Annapolis, Md.; a daughter, Mary Patricia Dodd, Albany, Calif.; a sister, Gladys Dodd Wright, Baltimore; nine grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren. - FIRESTONE, E. E. "GENE," 82, of Dunedin, died Thursday (Aug. 14, 2003) at Mease Dunedin Hospital. He was born in Ada, Ohio, and came here in 1980 from Plymouth, Mich. He was a retired analyst for Burroughs-Unisys Co. He was an Army veteran of World War II and received the Bronze Star while serving in the Philippines. He was a member of Dunedin Country Club and the 37th Division Veterans Association. He enjoyed golf and fishing and was an Ohio State Buckeyes fan. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, Berda; two daughters, Janis Firestone Nelson, Columbus, Ohio, and Joanna Firestone, New Hudson, Mich.; two sisters, Joan Broseke, Kenton, Ohio, and Lucille Hubbell, Ada; and two grandsons. He was a member of St. Theresa's Catholic Church, Spring Hill, a former president of the Holy Name Society, Diocese of Wheeling W. Va., and was once named Catholic Layman of the Year for the diocese. He served as faithful navigator for the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, Clarksburg,W. Va., and for the Knights of Columbus Council in Spring Hill. - GOOD, RITA LOVELAND, 80, Gulfport, died Saturday (Aug. 16, 2003) at Palms of Pasadena Hospital, South Pasadena. She came here in 1952 from her native Watertown, N.Y. She worked in real estate since May 1960 and was a member of the St. Petersburg Board of Realtors and the National Association of Realtors. She was a charter member of the Gulfport Chamber of Commerce and the Gulfport Historical Association, and was a member of American Legion Post 125 Auxiliary and AMVETS Post 8. She was a charter member of Most Holy Name of Jesus Catholic Church and the Legion of Mary. She bowled and sponsored two bowling leagues for 25 years. She played in a golf league for more than 15 years and played in a dart league for 18 years. - DWORSKY, MAURINE L. (MARCIA), 76, of St. Pete Beach, died Sunday (Aug. 10, 2003) at Palms of Pasadena Hospital, South Pasadena. Born in Springfield, Mass., she came here several years ago from Schenectady, N.Y. She attended Springfield College and Yale Graduate School of Drama. - AUSTIN, CATHERINE, 81, of St. Petersburg, died Thursday (Aug. 14, 2003) at Bayfront Medical Center. Born in East New York, she came here in 1989. She was a nurse's aide at Queens General Hospital. She retired in 1977 from the board of education in New York. She was a member of St. Augustine's Episcopal Church and the Brick Town Players Social Club. She was a 40-year volunteer for Meals on Wheels. Survivors include two sons, Raymond Austin, Kingston, Jamaica, and Kenneth Austin, Westbury, N.Y.; three granddaughters; a great-grandson; two nieces; and six nephews. - DeANGELIS, ELIZABETH, of St. Petersburg, died Thursday (Aug. 14, 2003) at home from cancer. She came here in 1994 from her native Providence, R.I. - GALLAGHER, JOHN L. "JACK," 72, of Holiday, formerly of St. Petersburg, died Thursday (Aug. 14, 2003) at Community Hospital of New Port Richey. Born in North Hampton, Pa., he came here in 1994 from Danbury, Conn. He was an ordained minister with Evangelical Lutheran Church of America, serving in St. Petersburg churches for the past five years, the last two years with the Church of Christ Lutheran Church. He earned his bachelor degree of divinity from the Lutheran Theological Seminary in Philadelphia and was ordained in 1955. He served in six states and Puerto Rico. - GARRICK, SARAH E. JOHNS, 89, of Lecanto, formerly of Tarpon Springs and St. Petersburg, died Friday (Aug. 15, 2003) at home under the care of Hospice of the Florida Suncoast. She was born in St. Petersburg, moved to Tarpon Springs in 1933 and moved to Lecanto in 1989. She owned Humpty Dumpty Day Care in Anclote for 30 years. He was a volunteer for Habitat for Humanity and was named the Pinellas County Habitat 2003 Volunteer of the Year. He was a member of St. Albans Episcopal Church in St. Pete Beach, and remained active with St. Elizabeth's Episcopal Church in Dahlonega, Ga. - BLOOM, ALBERT A., 79, of South Pasadena, died Saturday (Aug. 16, 2003) at Palms of Pasadena Hospital. Born in Atlantic City, N.J., he came here in 1998 from Linwood, N.J. He was a Realtor and was a member of the Atlantic City Board of Realtors. He was one of the founders of the Mainland Bank in New Jersey, was a 40 year member and former president of the Pleasantville Kiwanis. He served on the Linwood Board of Education and Mainland High School board. An Army veteran of World War II, he received a Purple Heart. - MINKOW, SOPHIE JEAN, 95, of South Pasadena, died Saturday (Aug. 16, 2003) at the Springs at Boca Ciega Bay. She came here in 1988 from her native New York City, where she was the owner of a paper and box manufacturing company for many years.
