LARGO - A 20-year-old man died Tuesday evening after being hit by a pickup while walking. Luis M. Reyes-Gonzalez of 15032 Verona Ave. was crossing East Bay Drive near Bradford Street when he was struck by a Dodge Dakota driven by Michael Stoffers, 40, of Belleair, according to the Florida Highway Patrol. The incident occurred about 8:50 p.m. and Stoffers' truck sustained $2,500 in damage, authorities estimated. Reyes-Gonzalez was taken to Largo Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead. "Usually it's a 30-day investigation," Highway Patrol Lt. Allen Carter said. "If it's a homicide, charges will be filed after the investigation is closed."
