WASHINGTON - Former Giants coach Jim Fassel interviewed for the Redskins' vacancy Thursday, meeting with owner Dan Snyder in San Francisco.
They plan to meet again today, Fassel's agent, Steve Rosner said.
Although Snyder is known for making deals quickly, Rosner said Fassel intends to keep to a schedule that includes interviews with the Cardinals on Saturday and the Bears on Monday and Tuesday.
Fassel traveled to California to watch his son play for Boston College in the San Francisco Bowl.
Fassel is one of three top candidates for the job, and Snyder could meet with all three during his West Coast trip. Ex-Minnesota coach Dennis Green lives in San Diego and interviewed with the Cardinals on Wednesday, and Ray Rhodes is Seattle's defensive coordinator.
Rhodes won't be available until at least Monday. He has been granted permission to talk to Snyder but does not plan to do so until the Seahawks' season is over.
BEARS: The Chicago Tribune reported general manager Jerry Angelo and president Ted Phillips are scheduled to interview Al Saunders, the Chiefs' assistant head coach and offensive coordinator, about the coaching vacancy today. They talked to Patriots defensive coordinator Romeo Crennel on Wednesday and might talk to Rams defensive coordinator Lovie Smith today. Angelo has said improving the offense, which sputtered for much of Dick Jauron's five-year tenure as coach, is a priority regardless of who the coach is.
FALCONS: Romeo Crennel became the fourth defensive coordinator to interview for the coaching job, meeting with owner Arthur Blank and general manager Rich McKay. Atlanta interviewed Lovie Smith on Monday and 49ers defensive coordinator Jim Mora on Tuesday. Blank and McKay were in Pittsburgh on Wednesday meeting with Steelers defensive coordinator Tim Lewis and offensive coordinator Mike Mularkey.
GIANTS: Romeo Crennel and Patriots offensive coordinator Charlie Weis talked to the team about its coaching vacancy. Crennel was a Giants assistant from 1981-92, working under Ray Perkins, Bill Parcells and Ray Handley. Weis was an assistant from 1990-92 under Parcells and Handley. New York has interviewed Lovie Smith and former Jacksonville coach Tom Coughlin, another ex-Giants assistant.
