Behind Gilchrist's 16 points, Maryland cruises by Mount St. Mary's

COLLEGE PARK, Md. - John Gilchrist scored 16 to lead four players in double figures as Maryland routed Mount St. Mary's 89-56 on Saturday.
Chris McCray scored 15 and Nik Caner-Medley added 14 for Maryland, which shot 54 percent (7-for-13) from 3-point range. Jamar Smith got his eighth double double of the season with 14 points and 14 rebounds as the Terrapins took a 25-point lead early in the second half then coasted.
Antonio Johnson scored 13 for Mount St. Mary's (2-9). No other player reached double figures for the Mount, which shot 29 percent from the field and committed 17 turnovers.
Freshman forward Ekene Ibekwe had a solid all-around game with nine points, 10 rebounds and four blocks for Maryland (8-3), which was coming off an upset loss to Florida State in its ACC opener.
Maryland is 101-2 at home against opponents outside the ACC during the 15-year tenure of coach Gary Williams.
N.C. ST. 68, N.C.-WILMINGTON 50: Julius Hodge scored 24, including nine in a 21-6 run over the final 6:32, for the host Wolfpack.
Marcus Melvin added 22 for State (7-2), which won its fourth in the past five. Hodge also recorded 12 rebounds and five assists in the victory.
N.C. State committed four turnovers in its first 11 possessions of the second half to help N.C.-Wilmington (5-5) tie at 39 with 12:09 to play.
The Seahawks lost four of their next five possessions, while Hodge scored four in a span of 1:50 to put N.C. State up 47-42 with 9:30 to go. N.C.-Wilmington never got within a basket the rest of the way.
PROVIDENCE 84, VIRGINIA 69: Ryan Gomes scored 27 and had 11 rebounds for the visiting Friars.
After Virginia cut the lead to seven with about four minutes left, the Friars responded by pushing the lead to as much as 18 in the final minutes.
Elton Brown had 16 for Virginia (9-2), which has lost two of its past three after an 8-0 start.
Providence used a 21-6 run midway through the first half to gain a 23-12 advantage with 9:12 left before intermission.
Donnie McGrath added 15 points for the Friars (8-1), who won their fifth straight.

DePAUL 81, CHICAGO ST. 74: Delonte Holland scored 24 and Quemont Greer added 16 for the host Blue Demons.
The game was delayed by a brief altercation in the second half, which resulted in a six-point swing for DePaul.
Tied at 51, DePaul guard Drake Diener fell to the floor. It then appeared Chicago State forward Antoine Hansbro stepped on Diener. Greer came in late and shoved a Chicago State player as both teams exchanged words.
Chicago State (1-13) has lost 42 straight on the road.
UAB 90, SOUTH ALABAMA 75: Gabe Kennedy scored 19, including seven during a key second-half run, to lead the host Blazers.
Twins Ronell and Donell Taylor scored 11 apiece, and Mo Finley had 10 for UAB.
Michael Phillips scored 14 for South Alabama and Chris Young added 12.
It was the 39th meeting of the in-state rivals, but the first since 1999. For UAB, it was the 800th game in the program's 25-year history. Both teams played up-tempo, fullcourt basketball. But UAB took control early, shooting 75 percent from the field in the first half.
LA.-LAFAYETTE 81, HOUSTON 67: Antoine Landry scored 26, making six 3-pointers for the second straight game, to lead the host Ragin' Cajuns.
Cedric Williams added 15 points and Laurie Bridges and Dwayne Mitchell had 12 each for Lafayette.
Houston (6-4) was led by Andre Owens, who scored.
SAINT LOUIS 65, KANSAS ST. 64: Josh Fisher scored three with eight seconds left to lift the host Billikens.
Reggie Bryant, who led Saint Louis with 25 points, including seven 3-pointers to tie a school record, stole a pass with two seconds left to end it.
Saint Louis had a school-record 15 3-pointers, exposing Kansas State's 2-3 zone.
XAVIER 68, ALABAMA 47: Anthony Myles scored a career-high 19 and the Musketeers held the Crimson Tide to its worst total in 23 games.
Myles set a career high for the second time in three games as the Musketeers snapped the Crimson Tide's six-game winning streak.
The Musketeers improved to 47-3 in their Cintas Center, where they are 25-1 against nonconference opponents. Xavier has won 14 consecutive at home and 16 straight vs. nonconference foes.
Romain Sato scored 13 and Lionel Chalmers added 10 for Xavier.
LSU 66, CENTENARY 63: Antonio Hudson scored 22 and the host Tigers gave coach John Brady his 200th career victory.
Jaime Lloreda added 18 points for the Tigers (9-1) and Brandon Bass had 10.
Andrew Wisniewski led Centenary (6-5) with 21 points.
ARKANSAS 96, NORTH TEXAS 61: The host Razorbacks had their best total under coach Stan Heath.
Arkansas (8-3) had four players in double figures with Ronnie Brewer's 14 leading the way and Billy Pharis equaling his season high (12).
TENNESSEE 74, UMASS 66: Scooter McFadgon led the visiting Vols with 22 points.
Massachusetts (5-6) led 27-26 at halftime, but soon fell victim to the Tennessee pressure defense in the second half.
A 13-2 run in the second half featured three 3-pointers, two by C.J. Watson, which put Tennessee ahead 42-31. Watson scored 14 for Tennessee (8-1) and Brandon Crump had 10.
MISS. 65, EAST CAROLINA 49: Justin Reed led all scorers with 27 for the host Rebels, who won their sixth consecutive.
Reed, who missed much of the second half in foul trouble, was 10-for-16 from the field and had a game-high eight rebounds.
Corey Rouse was the only Pirates player scoring in double figures with 12. The loss snapped a five-game winning streak for the Pirates, who defeated Ole Miss last season at home.
