He is not in the starting lineup, but that doesn't mean Oklahoma can ignore LSU's Skyler Green, who figures to have plenty of impact in the Sugar Bowl.
Green is the Tigers' third receiver, but is a dangerous kickoff returner and runner who accounted for 1,188 yards - that's 14.5 yards per touch - and seven touchdowns.
Not bad for a guy who supposedly still is learning the wide receiver position. Green, a sophomore, leads the nation in punt returns with 22 for 436 yards and two touchdowns. He was a third-team All-American and is LSU's third-leading receiver with 46 catches for 496 yards and five TDs. "He has tremendous ability - speed, change of direction and he's very, very, very strong," offensive coordinator Jimbo Fisher said. "His development has really helped us, because when you have a third guy, a lot of teams have two good corners but it's hard to get three. When that third guy can match up with some speed and ability to make you miss like he does, it gives you a great advantage."
And Green has learned almost everything at LSU. He played quarterback at Higgins in Westwego, La., where he was primarily a runner. But learning behind starters Michael Clayton and Devery Henderson has helped.
"I look back at when I came in, and the guy has so much more talent than I had," Clayton said. "He just didn't know what to do.
"But he listens, and he does a great job. He plays his role."
