ORLANDO - A man charged with killing his mother has told investigators that she helped him bury the body of his slain father under the family's garage 15 years ago.
Marilyn Kananen's alleged role in the disposal of her husband's body was detailed in a probable-cause affidavit that authorities have used to charge Richard Kananen Jr. with first-degree murder in his father's death.
The 47-year-old Orange County handyman was charged last month with killing his mother.
The affidavit strongly suggested that Marilyn Kananen, 65, covered up her husband's slaying for 15 years while collecting his Social Security disability checks. Marilyn Kananen disappeared in September, 15 years to the day after her husband vanished. Detectives say her son killed her in her home, then buried her body in the back yard of the home of his sister Stacey. Detectives have not said how she was killed.
The role of Stacey Kananen, 34, is unclear. She tried to commit suicide with her brother last month after they were questioned by detectives.
Detectives began investigating in November after a 12-year-old nephew of Richard Kananen Jr.'s said his uncle had told him that he had killed Richard Kananen Sr.
